Matt, I loved your reaction to Bobby Hatfield. I was 23 when he sang this on The Andy Williams Show. Every woman who heard him fell in love with him that night. Just pure talent. No auto tune, dancers, fog machines, flashing lights, techno crap. He stood and delivered. Magnificent! 🤗
Nothing wrong tearing up on this one, it just grabs your heartstrings and pulls them HARD
He was an angel!
Perfection. Thank you , Bobby. RIP, brother.
Clean cut, well-mannered singer and only voice and microphone - My generation grew up with such music - What a difference! Love Matt's reaction - his face expression and silence told me more than million words spoken out!
You had the "best reaction" for this video on RUclips, honestly.
You just heard an angel 😇
It's utterly HYSTERICAL watching the young generation's REACTION as they finally getting exposed to the TRUE PURE TALENT we (Age 66) enjoyed during our formative years. There are many versions of this beautiful expression of love, but NONE are or can be better than Bobby Hatfield's version here....RIP
Thank you for that genuinely reaction! (Unlike others who constantly look at themselves in self admiration instead of actually truly listening to the song.) Your true facial expression says it all. You can tell that you actually felt something deep inside. Bobby Hatfield had an amazing soulful voice and showed his feelings throughout all of his songs. He is truly missed.
A man with the voice of an Angel and a microphone. No gimmicks!
I’ve never seen anyone totally speechless 🤣
Everyone seems to have this same reaction. Simply blown away
That little lip bite at the end says he knew he nailed it.
That was from the Andy Williams valentines day show. Bill Medley is there, he just didn't sing with Bobby because he didn't think it would be a hit considering the artists that sang it before him. Bobby was nervous because his parents were sitting in the audience, yet he never showed it.. My mother was sitting next to Bobby's mother 🥰
Effortless ...what an insane performance, pure gold, his voice is likened to aged brandy
Stunned silence!!! WoW Dude!! At least you can appreciate Mr. Bobby Hatfield!!! With nothing but a mic!!!! Talent stepped up & made you speechless!! Don't worry he even has given men chills!!! I love him back in the day & STILL get SPELLBOUND after hearing this most of my life!!! Enjoy & pass along!! Research them!! The Dynamic Duo!!! You will love their bodies of work!! Together & solos!! He's got me sighing & gives me fever!!! The good kind!! 💐🌹❤️🥰
This performance done back in (1965) is considered one of the greatest live performances in television history. I have never heard composers 'Alex North' 'Unchained Melody' done so beautifully and masterfully by the 'Andy Williams Orchestra.' This arrangement of this beautiful ballad has the strings section prominent in this the greatest rendition of this song I have ever heard. The violins were kicking it in this masterpiece...Then you add one of the greatest 'Tenors' in Bobby Hatfield' and together they created what I consider the greatest version of 'Unchained Melody' ever!!! This performance alone has cemented 'Bobby Hatfield's' legacy as one of the greatest 'Tenors' in music history...May he rest in peace.
That was a great reaction, you were SPEECHLESS and rightfully so, loved it.
Welcome to the world of real "music". We waited 55 years for you to join us. Thumbs up for a good job.
When you said, "I've got nothing", I giggled with the thought of, your nothing is
showing all over your face. Great reaction. I was seventeen when this song
came out and it's been my favorite song all these years, I am now 72 years old.
:)
I was born in 1960, and can still remember this music back then (I had older siblings that had the radio on all the time). Bobby Hatfield would be a star if he were a young man today. His voice was amazing, along with his stage presence...and the fact that he still melts the heart of young women that watch this video today (I've seen dozens of women reacting to his 1965 live video).
I was 18 and a senior in high school. I loved this song then and I love it more now. The greatest male vocalist ever.
Raw talent, no autotune here, just amazing...😍
Just came across this video of your reaction to the late GREAT Bobby Hatfield giving a masterclass in singing...pure magic..lots of love from London 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 😘
Yup, Speechless. This kind of singing (REAL talent, no autotune) can totally render a person speechless. I really enjoyed you looking up during at least 2 of Bobby's higher notes. It was as if checking to air to watch them floating up to the clouds. You may have temporarily lost the words, but the thoughts were all over your expressions. The singers back then could sing for real. But Bobby Hatfield (the "Brother" in this video) and the other man in the duo Bill Medley (very deep voice, baritone) were in a class all their own.
This song leaves *lots* of people speechless! :)
I am 81 and remember quite a few singers doing this but Bobby's tops them all. I was heading to Viet Nam when his version can out. I can feel the loneliness in every word. Bill and Bobby always did one solo on each of there albums and while on tour. They both wanted to do Unchained, so they flipped a coin. The music was written as the theme for the little-known prison film “Unchained” (January 1955), hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers. The movie “Unchained” is about a man in prison and longing for his wife and children. Hoping his wife will still be there when he gets out. So you can now understand the meaning of the song. The movie was not very good, or so my friends told me. But we were all teenagers so what did we now. Several artists sang it and it made the billboard top 100. But no one can come close to Bobby Hatfield’s version. Bobby’s version hit the top ten chart. And did it again when it was used in the movie “Ghost” It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by Bobby. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages.
Wow
This song takes on more meaning when understood in context...the song comes from a prison movie about a man doing time and singing to his love from prison...In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film (released in 1955).... North then asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics, but Zaret initially declined, saying he was too busy painting his house. North was able to convince him to take the job, and together they wrote "Unchained Melody."...and the rest is history...maybe the most beautifully written romantic song of all time...and as I understand Zaret did eventually get his house painted
I just loved your reaction to this beautiful song and singer. We had this as our first dance at our wedding 27 years ago and it still makes me teary. X
LOVE your reaction! A young rugged looking guy left speechless. Much respect for going back in time. And yes, young man it is life changing. Subbed. 🙂❤
Love your reaction bro.
One of the best live performances in music history, in my opinion.
Dude comes out on stage cold, no auto tune, no gimmicks...just 100% raw talent.
Peace....
The best reaction! Being left totally speechless and breathless.
Excellent! Pure raw talent and done live. The other guy was planning the piano. Bobby did this in one take. That is how music was made when I was growing up.
no auto tune or digital crap. just him and his mic Live
Such a soulful voice and that was live.
Heart and soul went into their singing ,this was Bobby’s and always will be
My dad sang this to my mom on their wedding day .. and every anniversary after....
BLESSED
doesn't get any cooler than that
😍
I was 15 when this song came out. I couldn't get to the record store fast enough to buy the 45 LP. This is Bobby's song! I'm 72 and I still get goosebumps!
The 45s were the 2-sided singles. 33 rpms were the long play. You were lucky the record wasn't sold out. It was BIG back then. Booby Hatfield did the song better than anyone else and this live version is the best ever. Imo.
I got one thing : you're looking for perfection, here it is.
Live band and performance. He and Bill Medley (not real brothers) both wanted to record the single, so they tossed a coin and Bobby Hatfield won. It was meant to be because no one could match this perfection. RIP Bobby.
Written by Alex North and Hy Zaret for the 1955 prison movie "Unchained" and originally sung for the movie by black opera singer Todd Duncan. When The Righteous Brothers wanted to record this, both Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley both wanted to sing it solo,so they tossed a coin, and Bobby won. This live performance is the ultimate version surpassing any other, including Elvis's version.
Live performance on the Andy Williams Show. His mother was in the audience ;) oh and he suffered from terrible stage fright, but was a professional in every sense. Back when you had to have talent. You either had it or you did not. The other guy, his bud Bill wanted to sing this, but they tossed a coin and Bobby won ;)
Great reaction to a superb performance. I like the range of music you are looking at,from Queen to the Righteous Brothers ,cant be more open minded than that! I rarely subscribe to reaction channels. its a pleasure to watch your open honest reactions to what you see and hear.good luck
Thank you!!!
Warning label: Song may cause temporary speechlessness.
Virtuoso performance.
I to sang this to my wife at our wedding in 1983, as we danced to it with our oldest (but at the time 18 months) child. She, however she said I murdered it. I'm guessing it's not a song for a baritone, she told me I was of better sticking to my drumming. I thought it was an appropriate song as I was in the Royal Marine Commandos, I had returned from the war for the Falkland Islands when I proposed, and now was shipping out to Sierra Leone two days later, so much for my attempt at being romantic. On the upside she liked me in my Dress Uniform, and having my comrades forming the sword tunnel helped.
I must have done something write because we're still together and she still puts up with my singing. With 4 children and 7 grandchildren, we got busy on 3 of our baby's when I was home, we adopted the young afghan woman and her 2 daughters at the end of 2015 after they saved my life in Afghanistan (a story for another time), and we are so much better for having them, we love all our family and that is our strength. I served my Queen and Country for 34 years in the Royal Marine Commandos and later in the British Special Forces, and then 2 years in hospital, and she stuck by me even though I'm mainly wheelchair bound now. We do actually have a song by Queen called "Your Me Best Friend", a very apt song as she has been my best friend since we were both 15.
wow
@Mr. K..... Fabulous story! Thanks for sharing it.
The "other guy" was likely either standing offstage or sitting in the green room of the _Andy Williams Show._ They did sing together during that episode, and IIRC they did a third song including Andy, who was also a singer.
This live version is superior to the studio version. Among the differences was the length of the extended run, the one that forced you to exclaim, "What the?!" 🙀
I don't know if you noticed his little self-satisfied half-smile/lip-byte at the end. That shot should be a poster with the meme, "Nailed it!"
Most beautiful voice ever!! Leaves me speechless everytime I hear it & your reaction is priceless!
A true talent, been listening to this 53 yrs, it never gets old, Bobby kills it. Badass, 84 million views. Great reaction. This is on freaking TV no Auto tune.
live, no auto tune.....his mom was in the audience too lol....this one came from the heart.
I have watched many reaction videos to about this and your reaction was priceless thanks for keeping comments to a minimum and allowing us enjoy Bobby
Lots of reactions to this video, blows everyone away.
I appreciate your reaction. It's breathtaking, isn't it? I listen at least 1x a day. I was 6 when the song came out. When I heard this live version, I heard heaven. Peace.
Yeah just him, a good mic and an orchestra, live!
That is the incredible voice and talent of Bobby Hatfield :)
Yeah,....That's what it does.....leaves us SPEECHLESS 🤓with goosebumps and tears in our eyes. ETERNAL GRATITUDE BELOVED BOBBY HATFIELD 🙏🏽💚😇💯‼️‼️‼️👏🏿👏🏻👏🏾👏🏻YOUR reaction was POWERFULLY AUTHENTIC 💯‼️‼️‼️
Great reaction!! It really is life changing. 💕💜💕💜
A man who looks and sings like an angel. A fatal combination to any woman alive. Doesn't matter how old or skin color.
🤣🤣🤣🤣...I guess the song and the singer hit 🏡🏡🏡🏡🏡 home!
On every album they would do one solo. This is BOBBY’S song forever! In the movie Dirty Dancing Bill Medley sang the hit song at the end ..Time of my life
My favorite reaction from you, so far. "Where's the other guy?". 😃
Definitely a “life changer”!
Absolutely love your reaction. Now you know why after 56 yrs this is still a premium chick song. Still get chills even after listening at least 5 000 times. Class
The greatest live performance ever!!
Both members of the Righteous Brothers were blessed with fabulous voices. Try "You've Lost That Loving Feeling", THE most requested song on radio in the 20th century.
It's in my videos!
One of the classics! If you've never seen it, watch the movie "Ghost"... a great/touching love story that had a beautiful scene with Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze, while this song played. Gets me every time!
GREAT FOR ALL TIME.
Additional comment, listen to Righteous Brothers and Bob Seger Old Time Rock and Roll at one setting, for a deluxe trip down memory lane to hometown yesterday. Once again PRICELESS reactions by you kids to MY early 1960 music and glad you're willing to listen. Thanks
There are a lot of people who miss you and your reactions. Please come back!!!!!
You will dig a lot more Righteous Brothers. Bring it on home to me, brings the brillance of Bobby and Bill charisma out. They having a ball y'all ❤😊.
Unchained Melody..Bobby almost yodels on so m e notes..and know how to move that Mike around for effect..Bravo!
Best reaction ever
Bobby feels his music and makes sure you do too. Your response proves that. Thanks for a sincere reaction to a live performance nearly sixty years ago. The studio cut was released as the B side of a 45 and charted twice. Welcome to the history of the phenomenal Bobby Hatfield. He has done many solos like My Prayer, Summertime, Come See and Crying in the Chaple. Enjoy
The middle of the song isn't the time or place to worry about "where's the other guy"! By Jove, I think he liked it! Stirs so many feelings right down to your toes.
Hey Matt, my reaction is ditto, literally the same as the previous reaction from Barbara (hi Barbara)! I, too, was a 17 year old girl slow dancing to this with my boyfriend. Over these many years I've had a dozen more boyfriends, lovers, and three husband's (still with the third), but in many ways it's never gotten better than that dance, that song. Unchained Melody, by the one and only Bobby Hatfield, casts a spell that's a gorgeous experience if you're open to it. Thank you for your open and genuine reaction.
Bobby Hatfield and Bill medley were a duo in the 1960''s (not blood brothers) Bobby did "Unchained Melody" as a solo, that's Bill Medley on piano, who also arranged the song. During this live performance on The Andy Williams Show, Bobby had a cold, and was nervous, as his parents were in the audience, and yet, judging from the look on his face, he knew he nailed it! Name "Righteous Brothers" came from a performance at a marine base when someone shouted out, "that was righteous brothers," and so, they adopted the name "Righteous Brothers"
Had to subscribe after your reaction. Mesmerizing ain't he.
Love the reaction, Bobby is looking down with love
Most perfect and only appropriate reaction! God bless you
Pure class 👍
Loved your reaction . . .
Only 25 yes old here! Born to sing. Check out ROCK AND ROLL HEAVEN '74, I think. RIP Bobby 💙💙💙
BOBBY HAD SUCH A FREAK RANGE UP THAT TOP END, THIS CANT BE COVERED, ITS HIS, AND ONLY HIS GIFT HE LEFT WITH US.
Soul and Inspiration is a great one.
Your face says it all.... great reaction
The word you're looking for is. wow!!!
Wonderful reaction.
This song is originally from a movie about a guy in prison, who is missing his wife and family. After this came out a lot of guys in Nam were telling their ladies to listen to Bobby Hatfield, because he was saying exactly what they were all feeling. He was 25 here, and his parents were there to hear him sing professionally, the first time they had got there to hear him do so.
Haha. Nice reaction. You look like you just fell in love..
This song is in the Movie Ghost
Congratulations to all y'all that get it.
Thist is why his nickname is "The Voice"
Another of theirs is You've Lost That Loving Feeling, where both members sing.
Bobby Hatfield=Talent!
And remember, this was live, and his mum and dad were in the audience
👍👍👍
Bobby Hatfield & Bill Medley also sang solos now & then.
Speechless 😎
Perfect
I felt the pain in that sound you made “uhhh” before pausing the video.💔
Unreal huh
Back then if you were a singer you had to have a good voice.
This superb singer is Bobby Hatfield. Obviously, he is singing with no help from autotune, reverb, or anything else. He just took the mic, and sang a difficult song perfectly, and in one continuous take. He is the embodiment of Blue Eyed Soul. (And if you have a nagging feeling that there is still some other aspect of this....let me suggest this. He sings this very difficult song without apparent effort or strain. He literally makes it look easy.)
