- how to create imagery in a song? Well, it's not easy if no one is paying attention to your song. With all the artists out there trying to get a listener's attention, What can you do to get someone invested in your song if they are not paying attention?
There are two key pieces of information we can rely on, 1. The best tool we have for creating imagery is the listener's imagination. And 2. When someone hears a song, especially for the first time, They hear musical elements first.
There is a powerful way to create opportunities for the listener to use their imagination, using the elements of a song that work even if someone isn’t actively listening. In this video, I give you an overview of how to do that.

Dude can't get over how good of a job you do. I feel like I found a hidden gem of a profile here.
Cheers Sal, I really appreciate that. It's great to hear you are getting value out of the content.
This is a great video, for serious songwriters this knowledge is expected. Well done bro
Cheers D'Asante, glad you got some value from it.
Lot of great info here. I listen to the lyrics and only follow songwriters that write good lyrics.
First time I heard gotye on bbc radio 3 (I think) I new that was a number one hit. Whole song brings you in especially with the nursery rhyme melody and is very relatable.
Yeah, it's catchy a.f., really creates the mood with the melody.
Amazing, thanks for sharing man!
wow. just loads of great information here on this channel, eye-opening and inspiring, and the comedy is appreciated too!
Cheers Jimmy, I really appreciate that. I was starting to think most songwriters had no sense of humor! Glad you got some value from it.
Your videos are great bro; your ability to explain these concepts plain and clear is unbelievably helpful. Thank you!!!
Good information, nicely presented, thank you.
Cheers Norman, glad you got some value from it👍
such an OUTSTANDING series. much respect
cheers JM, glad you found it useful.
I love your channel!
Great info, took notes again!
I can't imaging Axel Rose sitting down and doing all this stuff consciously though. "oh Slash, do you think we should add some unstable diatonic notes here?" I think talented people do this naturally to some degree and we have to theorise about it.
Great job though - I think you'll have a lot of subscribers pretty soon!
totally agree. Funny to think of them having a conversation about assonance after their tenth bottle of jack daniels tho. glad you got some value from it.
@@SongWritersChopShop great video dude❤.
that intro and outro though 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I listened to that!!! 😜🤣🤣🤗
Cheers Dawn, thought I'd have some fun with the outtakes. I just want to do a comedy channel now. hope you are doing well.
im learning so much from you man! probably would have stuck it out with the sax if i had this years ago. thank you!
Great to hear Doctor Jay. Glad you're getting value from it.👍
Brilliant dude
cheers JJ, glad you enjoyed it.
What is your favorite imagery in a song?
Walking on Sunshine, Katrina and the Waves
@@Table-Top Love it!, and it's time to feel good...
Carpet Crawlers by Genesis. Such an absurd subject but the picture he paints is incredible.
There's only one direction
In the faces that I see
It's upward to the ceiling
Where the chamber's said to be
Like the forest fight for sunlight
That takes root in every tree
They are pulled up by the magnet
Believing they're free
Fun Fact about the phrase "Where do we go now" in Sweet Child: They wanted to add this breakdown part, but Axl was unsure of a direction and repeatedly sang to himself, “Where do we go now?” Which happened to fit the song so they went with it.
Great stuff, but only for the down to earth enlightened beings.
You know it!
so can you make a song with only unstable tones? P.S what the heck with the dislike? P.P.S love the ending 😭
Cheers cazcazoo. I think using a mix of stable and unstable tone to support the emotion of your song would be more effective. It's one of those things where you let your ears guide you until you hit that 'ah ha' moment.
good talk stop the background muzak.
