You make this look like it’s an easy job, pulling out an engine, very skilled! I’m sorry for you that the transmission’s broken but I do have full confidence that you will have this car up and running in “no time”. Good luck to you 🙏🏻
9:37 - 10:10 shows extent of damage.. 10:11 Seth with a smile.. To have a smile and remain positive in this situation says a lot about you Seth! Good luck with the swap and hydro conversion. I know Jon with GBH has a video showing an install but that might be an innovative cable/hydro set up.
Glad I found your channel. I had a 1989 CRX-Si. Tokico HD shocks, Ground Control coilover sleeves, Neuspeed strut tower brace and 16in wheels. I put 320,000 miles on that car. Got everything together to do a B16A swap and test drove a 2002 WRX when they first came out. Bought it and sold my CRX. While I have been having fun with my Subies I will always miss my CRX.
damn brother, you made this look easy! i hope to be as skilled and knowledgeable as you are one day, as always thank you for the video! this is so close to home with me having to chase a trans leak on my 89 crx for a month and a half! just got it fixed the other day finally!! much love and i can’t wait to watch along the cars journey!
Quick work pulling it out. The itr swap will be a whole different animal. Plenty of RUclips videos to help you pull that hydro trans apart too (that’s how I managed to do mine). Bummed I didn’t get to see it at CHD but it is what it is. Can’t wait to see the progress 👍
You should have 100k subs with the types of videos you put out. I wish I had this type of car knowledge and courage to take stuff apart like this. Good luck to figuring out a resolution and sorry you have a mess on your hands.
Man that sux! But like you said youve got an ITR swap mostly ready to slap in so kind of a motivater for that. I love the trueness of the B16 that was in there and sooooooo damn clean too! But you got this easy peezy! She'll def scoot alot faster with the ITR and you'll love it a ton more all over again! Cant wait to see more updates and progress cause you a beast as always!
I had the innovative hydro conversion actuator didn't like it felt like was pulling my clutch pedal to left..I ended up replacing my pedals, going full hydro conversion innovative with wilwood reservoir best results for my itr swap
damn man sorry to hear this. My friend has a DA with that cable to hydro swap from hush that still uses the cable. When i tracked it it seemed fine it was just a little stiffer then a normal hydro trans. But all in all not too bad. I have a EF im getting ready to build for next years classic hondas and i think i plan on using that hydro conversion so we will see. Either way, your situation is unfortunate but im sure you have a plan.
Yeah, I think I’m going to go with one of the conversions for now, and it it presents problems, I can go another route. Hopefully I can get the ITR trans situated so it’s good to go.
Looks like part of the reverse gear pin broke thru the case . maybe shifting to 4th got a bit close to reverse and lift that gear . I say put ITR swap in and hydro convert the CRX
Nice clean engine pull Seth…..but bro pulling that battery straight up and out with your fingers. Now that was impressive. 😂😂😂 ITR, wouldn’t be a question for me, factory….but….stay mad
Mechanics please pay attention...😆JK. But he does get the best shots! Right?! I couldn't find a CRX and opted for a mini cooper. Always get what you want. All the regret is on you. 😁
This literally happened in my 89 wagon about 6 months ago. I've been running a temporary high mileage transmission (my wagon only has 140k miles) Even though it wouldn't hold more than half a bell housing worth of trans fluid, it still ran and shifted like butter, so I'm really curious to figure out what happened exactly to yours. Maybe it's the same thing that happened to mine? 😂 I'm still looking for a donor bell housing (besides the high mileage one since I daily the car) to swap everything over from my og transmission. I wasn't running a clutch cover when it happened so I thought it was something from the road that jumped in and hit the clutch and then slinging into the bell housing, but after watching your video I suspect it came from inside my transmission as well. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow and crack it open. Mine is just a D series, but even then it's almost impossible to find a cable trans in good shape. The one I'm running now was the only one for sale in GA 6 months ago. 😂
Hi Seth. What are those coilovers like to live with? I'm looking for a set for my ef8 but I don't want to completely destroy the comfort of the drive. I'm currently on standard shocks and springs. My only experience of coilovers on a crx was about 20 years ago and my recollection was that the ride comfort was terrible. Fine for track use but terrible on public roads. Are modern coilovers any better? Should i just get a set of lowering springs? Any advice greatly appreciated.
These coilovers are Raceland Ultimos. They have gotten the job done for the past 5 years, so no real complaints. Long-term, I will swap them out with something else.
I’m sincerely sorry for this misadventure 😢. Not easy to found a new S1/Y1 gearbox in USA. Maybe you can transform the hydraulic gearbox from the Blue car, to a mechanic gearbox 🤔
I'm now a broker/SMD making $$$$. I just got me a crx, and i cant find time to fix it like you. The good thing is that i got all the parts and material to work on it. While im typing this, i just earned another $10k. If u need a financial advisor, just let me know. Maybe you can give me more pinters on fixing my 1988 crx si. I honestly dont want these little classic go-karts go extinct! If i get done with this one, i might fix another one just for the heck of it.
wouldn't you be able to swap the b16 gears into the type r case? im sure the lsd and fd would be fine that would be pretty sick. I believe the b16 (open diff) and type r trans are same ratios too
@ Nice! Love the oem look. Taking the same approach with my 90 Si. That video of the HKS exhaust was inspiring. I should be getting that exhaust on my doorstep tomorrow. I have a Hi Comp B20 with a S4C trans with LS 5th. Still working on it. Thanks for all the free information your videos offer. You are an asset to the Honda community. Keep up the great work my man.

Nice shirt from the madspeed crew!
Thanks for following through and giving us an awesome video! Very entertaining, I appreciate the time taken in those camera angles!
Holy crap dude. My mouth dropped seeing the failure.. Never seen anything like that on an NA honda.. Made quick work of it though for sure! good stuff

I have a 2004 STi myself. Totally different animal.

I said it once an I'll say it again watching your videos is so refreshing!! You do such great work
The silver lining is that you will get some good content out of this for your channel.

Bummer but good to see you found out what the issue was.
I'm very impressed you pulled that thing out all by yourself..is not an easy job to do. good job
Good luck! Will be on the lookout for whatever comes next for the Rex.

Thank you! One day! I’m sure I’ll be able to throw another transmission in and possibly repair the one that’s broken.
Can’t wait to see the B18C in your gorgeous CRX
:crossesfingers:
I had an 88 crx back in the day. Put a b series in it. Heads up…. Lots of support for the body.

You’re a boss man! I hope one day I can pull my engine out as easy as you make it look 🙌🏽
I’m sure Seth will agree.. they usually come out easier than they do going back in lol!
I hope people watching realize how annoying it is to remove a bonnet on your own because you made it look so smooth 😅
I’m excited to see this! B18 with an LSD sounds so fun.
What header do you run with your swap in the CRX to keep your AC?
Dang man, that sucks buddy. You definitely broke it good! haha It will only come back even better than before. 😊
I just have to find the motivation and a little spare time to knock it out!
I had the innovative hydro conversion actuator didn't like it felt like was pulling my clutch pedal to left..I ended up replacing my pedals, going full hydro conversion innovative with wilwood reservoir best results for my itr swap

Great video 😮
ITR swap it!!! (Great shirt👊😡)
Just noticed the shirt! 😅 good stuff
Id love to have that B16 in my CRX !
I’ll probably be selling it.
#SaveTheEF
Nice clean engine pull Seth…..but bro pulling that battery straight up and out with your fingers. Now that was impressive. 😂😂😂
ITR, wouldn’t be a question for me, factory….but….stay mad
Gutted mate , those Gearboxes are not easy to find.
Stay Mad!
Do the hush performance hydro conversion kit

I just pulled the tranny on my EM1 and it didn't feel as easy as you made that look!!
Hello Its possible model ryobi ? Thanks good work 👌

Those broken pieces look like they might be part of the shift change assembly..
Looks like the pin in the stock differential broke. Thats the weak link in the differential
wouldn't you be able to swap the b16 gears into the type r case? im sure the lsd and fd would be fine that would be pretty sick. I believe the b16 (open diff) and type r trans are same ratios too
Cable and hydro transmissions are different so they won’t interchange.
Can I buy center garnish decal for the 90 civic?
DM me on Instagram please.
You didn’t even get dirty! 😮
Are you using the stock air box? What intake tube are you using?
Stock airbox cut down some with 90-93 Integra tube.

looks like the pinion bin from the diff broke. anybody know in the Seattle/ Puget Sound area want a ZC for the same series chassis? $$ bargain
Why did you pull out the engine as well?
sometimes it's just easier to pull it all out at once
It’s just as easy to pull it all together rather than try to drop the B-series tranny. Also, I’m probably putting a different engine back in the car.
It’s a swap. So it’s not certain that it is as easy as on a EE8 /EF8 body 🤔
🍻🍻
😢
💪🏽🫵🏽 done this a time or two 😂
Yikes. That does sucks. Sorry, bro.
Easier to take engine and trans you say 🤔
Little Joe didn't show up and that's why.
That's a b*#@$* when you have to work in tight quarters like that 💯💯😭😭🤮🤮
✌🏻🇳🇱
I'd swathe engines
