THE SWELL OF THE DECADE - Surfing North Point / Western Australia

- In June 2015, a 5-6m swell hit the south coast of Western Australia. There was a lot of hype around it with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting it to be the 'biggest swell of the decade'. Although it didn't quite live up to its expectations, it still produced some of the best days out at North Point all year. Ryan Hardy, Dave Winchester, Jake Stone, Ben Veitch, Taj Burrow and Jack Robinson were among a number of riders enjoying the huge swell.

Ian Munn, I think I was there! 6to 8m unsurfable at South Point, 5to 6m at North Point ,occasional closeouts across the bay . Everyone paddling out in the middle of the bay and the beast that was Ian Cairns going straight off the rocks at North Point! It was a spectacle I will not forget.

surfed box a few times early 90's with ryan, brett and gene, but what stuck with me was tony getting shacked on mainbreak lefts like it was cloudbreak or something, whole family was legendary back then.
Great waves. Great spot when it is pumping. I have sustained many an injury here back in the day.

I am sure you will find that left is the middle of the bay, we used to call it Huzzawoowies, but like Rabbit Holes got changed to the Box I am sure it has changed to. Surfed this place in the late 70's with Ian Cairns and a few crew, it was that big at peak swell the bay closed out a few times, it was way cleaner than this and just barreling its head off........damn scary though !!!

man i watch ppl not beat the second section and i wonder on a double overhead+ like that where do you even try to bail at? the lip sounds super bad, plunging into the middle of the face you're next going over the falls, maybe the bottom 3rd? or even just straight down before where the lip will crash? 1:07 and 1:24 for example
