Funny how perspective changes with each person. I am a big man 6' 235 lbs. the street triple felt too small to me. I went chose the speed 3 as a result. The Speed feels just right.
mr missenden, top video as always, must admit I always go for a faired bike so this wouldn't interest me, nice finish but how will it cope with the British winter?
Loved my two Speed Triple 1050's. But riding a Monster 1200 R now, which (like this latest Speedy) is significantly better (160 hp, 100 torques, Ohlins, Marchesini, Brembo M50, etc). They're all getting so good now, we're really spoilt for choice!
Another visit to Herts Triumph I see. That road probably sells 20% of all their bikes! I'm very local, so head there regularly. On the rare (and I mean very rare) occasion it's empty it's absolutely spectacular. At the end turn right for a good road or left to ride through a forest...can't go wrong.
Yeah it's the best local jaunt I know from there if you've only got a short time with the bike, as you say, soooo much better when the traffic is light/non existent....
Have you ridden the BMW nineT? I've got a Tuono 1100 and want to slow down on the road, but still have fun, and i think the BMW could be the bike for me.
No I haven't but I very much like the look of it, it's just (with having the GS) I don't particularly fancy two boxer engine bikes at the same time...not that I have anything against them. Front runner for me at the moment is the Tuono, how have you found it??
+TheMissendenFlyer I've been riding 13 years and had as many different bikes (coming from an 899) and it's the most capable/best performing bike I have owned. The V4 combined with a stunning chassis is a fantastic combination, I've just done 3,000 in Europe and it was faultless. I do however want to slow down on the road so think it's time for something I can have fun on but does not encourage me to do warp speed - need a track bike for that!
So many vloggers people take bikes out along the Leighton Buzzard Road from Palmers Triumph Hemel . It's actually good because the surface is pants and the traffic heavy. ( ie real world). Good review from the immaculate TMF as per.
Totally agree with your review here mate. Test rode the Speed 'R' a few weeks ago and can't say enough about how much I loved it. Reminded me of my old Streety in how it felt, light, flickable and lots of lovely three cylinder sound. Was looking to get one, but the Speed 'R' is just about out of my price range, so maybe thinking of getting the 'S'. Once I set the Street 'R' up with slightly softer than standard settings I loved it, so not sure I'd take full advantage of the fully adjustable suspension anyway, so other than the badge and resale value, I'm not sure what's holding me back from pushing the button on it.
Yeah I agree, the Street with a bit of suspension set-up and softening makes a great bike. I actually preferred the look of an all black "S" they had in the dealer over the "R" - I'm so insensitive things like Ohlin's suspension are lost on me anyway!
those rev lights may be coming on at 3k revs due to the bike still being in its break in period maybe? also, rode one last week. Although I very much liked it, I'm still waiting for the new Street Triple RS next year.
I think the dealer had just been lazy about setting them up properly - the bike had actually done 1000 miles already so past the run in period I guess....and yes, that new Street is worth waiting for I reckon. Cheers for watching and for stopping by, all the best - TMF
+TheMissendenFlyer oh right, you're probably right then, lazy dealers slacking off! A better Street Triple is well worth waiting for! and you too, TMF, all the best!
I rode that earlier in the year, also tested the s1000r. The Triumph doesn't stand out in a particular area against the other nakeds. It's capable buy uninspiring. The Tuono on the other hand. That V4, if I was in the naked market right now, forget the MT10, even the big 1290, Aprillia would be getting my money.
+TheMissendenFlyer The Tuono is a rarer beast on our roads; a crime really. Italian styling with a lovely balanced chassis, and the V4 engine. It's a no brainer. Any biker who knows his onions would have that beast in his cave.
Nice review Mr Flyer! 👍🏼 Always love the sound of the triple it just sings. Need to ride one soon. Perhaps your cam could be adjusted a bit higher but I like to see the countryside lol. Good weekend!
Brilliant review TMF on a brilliant bike.I am a massive Triumph fan and have owned many different Triumphs in the past.I have just bought a 2017 Triumph speed triple s,and was wondering if you would get chance to do a review on the s model.Would be very interesting to here your thoughts if its worth spending the extra and getting the r . I am not an aggressive rider and i dont do track days so i wouldnt benefit from the ohlins suspension.
@@TheMissendenFlyer Thanks for reaction, i'm so glad to hear that, she's beauty, look nice and not expensive second hand, to make appointment for test drive at dealer by soon
Have you thought about test riding the Ducati Multistrada? Not sure if you have done this one ....... maybe maybe not. Cannot be bothered to check all your vids.
In all the magazines I've read the S1000R comes out on top in almost all the super naked head to heads, but I still think the Speed has more character.
Personally I rather like the look of the Tuono V4...I have ridden the S1000R and it was fine, but, a bit lacking in character (as you might expect from a 4 cylinder BMW)....
Enjoyed that cheers TMF. Still looks a bit chunky for my liking and as others have said, the exhausts are not a thing of beauty. The one thing they do add though is good view of that single sided swing arm, which does look lovely. I will test ride one of these when I'm thinking of selling my Street Rx but by then it'll have the new Street triple to be compared against as well. Happy riding!
You could ride a Honda super cub on that road and feel the same way. The road just doesn't do any justice to a litre bike that actually leans over very nicely.
I didn't see one so I think not.....but then this isn't really intended as a long distant tourer I suspect....(although you could, very comfortable ride)....
TheMissendenFlyer Just wondered as it has ride by wire. I know the BMW S 100 R has it, so I would have thought Triumph would have kept up. My next bike needs to have cruise.
Well that's it, as you might recall I've been trying to fine tune my Triumph stable that been The Explorer, The Thruxton and my new rs 765. So having thought about the classic solid Thruxton and it's sound, looks handling and sheer prettiness, she's staying. The rs is staying, coz it is lol. However it's going to get some special treatment and soon to be triumphed up with Daytona fairing, clip ons, loose the rear pegs, re mapping and ecru adjustment and few bits including paint job stealthy black and grey with matt gold to enhance the hills and arrow can yellow bits. All Triumph stuff that'll look very unique and be a special machine. And finally the frankly massive explorer a great solid bike very capable is going to go for the awesome speed triple r, arrows and few bits. Nearly went for Yamaha mt10 but breaks and poor compared to the brembo set, sound and handling on speed is brilliant. It's butch, solid, engine is just one of if not the best I've used ( had the 1050 sport before) and it's power and yet grace. Just to say thanks for the reviews as they do help give a honest and informative view of Triumphs. Hey love to see a rocket review, if money and garage space wasn't an issue I'd have one they ain't called rocket for nothing holy moly.
Nice review, I did consider buying this latest updated Speed Triple. I owned a 2012 machine for about 18 months and enjoyed it very much, only issues I had were the leg position being a little cramped and the fact that I enjoyed riding my wife's Street Triple even more, even though the Street was way too cramped for my large frame. I've recently purchased one of the competitors to the Triumph Speed Triple, a bike that for me I've found the most exciting, fun and utterly bonkers bike created....the Yamaha MT10. It's very much like a Street Triple in handling just much more powerful. I was disappointed Triumph could only get the power up to about 140 when completion including the Yamaha are up at 160+.
Rode the mt10 today, brakes yuk, seat yuk, economy yuk. Was thinking chopping the explorer n got the sp version. Know keeping fingers crossed Triumph will do a facelift rs 1050 speed new tft and so on. Going to Woburn test the speed but not worth me doing as got the 765 rs, just to compare though. Wanted sexier fun/commuter bike and hoped mt10 might work but didn't float my boat.
yes nice review once again TMF, not for me though I like a bit more room and weather protection, but you're right about the triumph ownership, they are turning out some lovely bikes at the moment, I also live about 1 mile from nick bloor, "top bloke".
Hmm. Interesting. I've got a 1050 Sprint ST, 125hp, so not quite up with the newer ones. Did a swapsie with a 2013 Street R recently and the Street was way, way more fun and agile. Even though it was noticeably down on power, it's far the more exciting bike through the twisties. Be interesting to compare this new Speed to it. And of course there's the new Street 800 bikes coming. Allegedly 105 up to 140 horses. Thing is, the current Streets really do look the business. I'm being tempted away from my beloved Sprint!
Another great review MF. Thank God we're all different - I think my new S1000R has loads of character! As you know swapped in my Street Triple for it. I am an admirer of modern Triumph Classics, but in my humble opinion anyone over 5'10" and over 40 may find them too small and uncomfortable. My GS will always be my "main bike." Keep em coming. Cheers. Jon
Indeed, the S1000R is definitely a lovely machine, maybe just a bit too perfect for me.....like you say, we're all different and that's what makes the world go around eh (at 5'8" I find the Triumph's a perfect fit!). All the best Jon, good to have you along as ever - TMF
I don't suppose you saw if they had any Daytona demo bikes good sir! I went up to Hughenden M40 Triumph dealer the other day and they had no Daytona's, and weren't planning on getting any! Sold out! Haha. Nice sausages though.
Good review Mr flyer ,,considering I only live 4 miles away from the triumph factory and a friend I don't see to often is a test rider for them ,,, I've yet to see one in the flesh,, my 11 plate is probably similar to the old one you rode ,, mine is a 11 plate ,, riding the weight is no problem to me but then I've threw a blackbird about with the misses on the back on the mountain section of the tt circuit and they are quite a heavy bike ,, however I think sometimes heavy is a good thing they tend to be more stable in some situations ,,like the led running lights and attention to detail on this bike however considering how many changes they have made to the engine the increase in power is pretty pathetic,, it hasn't the butte power to need all that crappy electronics different power modes ,,,my old zx10 was somewhere round 180 bhp that didn't have anything either ,,you learn to control brakes and power with a fine touch,, think it's gonna create super pussys ,,,anyhow take shane

Great review; not sure I made the right choice when I swapped mine for a new VFR800. PS: Formerly SBK Pete; my youngest daughter (11) has taken over my channel 😕
Yes, and being high, upswept pipes, they don't allow side cases to be mounted easily. Triumph Accessory catalog doesn't show Bag/Pannier Mounts listed anywhere.
In that Comparo I linked to they used a large tail bag, ALONG with a tank bag AND a rucksack, but said they'd much rather have low exhausts. The Speed Triple was in their top one and two positions in the test.
+TheMissendenFlyer I used SW Motech Blaze Panniers on my Speed Triple, they used a simply removed (when not in use) frame to keep the panniers off the exhausts and kept the soft bags secure away from the rear wheel. Highly recommended
Hard to beat the sound of the Street Triple. Once the Brexit is completed you might not have the EURO-4 Regulations to deal with anymore, unless Blighty decides to keep them.
Oh and them pipes ,, horrendous,,, first thing to rip off and chuck to the scrap man. Ha ha ,,, it's the Daz washing powder. Situation it's always better than the last one so they claim,,,
Yeah I have come to realise that in the motorcycle world, marketing tends to triumph over reality - most bikes of similar capacity and type are similar to each other...they don't change that much year on year despite what the spec sheet says......
I love your channel but the 15 second long intro, accompanied by highly irritating music, is driving me crazy. Please cut the intro to five seconds, especially if you insist on this music, and indeed consider getting rid of an intro altogether. In case you haven't noticed, no significant RUclips channel runs an intro more than five or six seconds, and many dispense with one altogether. Thanks :)
yes have said hello to him , but have spoken to his father in law at lengths, a friend of mine services his cars, he bought my wife's God mothers old house and turned it into a mansion,
Okay, there I just rented a 2016 Speed Triple form a local guy where I live and this is NOT an upright bike, this sits exactly like a sports bike, you do not sit upright at ALL on this bike. Everyone keeps saying you sit upright but you dont and its super annoying.
What is your reasoning behind that statement Martin ? The power of the 765 felt really high up the revs and the torque a bit underwhelming. Yes the 765 is more agile and snappy , but why would that make it better for every day driving ?
Funny how perspective changes with each person. I am a big man 6' 235 lbs. the street triple felt too small to me. I went chose the speed 3 as a result. The Speed feels just right.

It was just a snap I took on my iPhone - if you PM me your e-mail address I'll send it over.....
Impressed
Nice review.
Thanks...
Great review, not the bike for me tho
Those exhausts couldn't be any uglier 😕
Stay safe..
Stan 👊
Yeah I agree, they would be no1 on the list to go.....
Yes, and being high, upswept pipes, they don't allow side cases to be mounted easily. Triumph Accessory catalog doesn't show Bag/Pannier Mounts listed anywhere.
...not really the sort of bike to have panniers on - defo a rucksack job I reckon....
Another great, honest review 🖒
Cheers :0)
great video i seen this bike on a tv show called the motorbike show on itv looks so nice :)
I must look that show out on catch-up....
yeah defo worth a wacth :)
Great first impressions, I have a street at the mo and I love it and it's a toss up between this and an mt10 for my next bike in September
The mt10 gets great reviews, but it's simply not British! :0)
Hard to beat the sound of the Street Triple. Once the Brexit is completed you might not have the EURO-4 Regulations to deal with anymore, unless Blighty decides to keep them.
...now that would be a result!
Thanks :)
+MG V7II thanks for your views, I'll bear them in mind!
ha,
yes have said hello to him , but have spoken to his father in law at lengths, a friend of mine services his cars, he bought my wife's God mothers old house and turned it into a mansion,
coolio!
Okay, there I just rented a 2016 Speed Triple form a local guy where I live and this is NOT an upright bike, this sits exactly like a sports bike, you do not sit upright at ALL on this bike. Everyone keeps saying you sit upright but you dont and its super annoying.
You do compared to my sports bike!
The New 2017 765cc Street Triple is a much better engine for everyday driving.
I agree - give me a Street Triple over as Speed any day!
What is your reasoning behind that statement Martin ? The power of the 765 felt really high up the revs and the torque a bit underwhelming. Yes the 765 is more agile and snappy , but why would that make it better for every day driving ?
It's a silly comment as the speed triple has a HUGE torque advantage which is what one wants for street riding.
