  • Step by step guide to tying a "marathon lace" aka runners loop, lock lacing, heel lock. This useful technique keeps your heel from slipping in and out of the shoe that results in an uncomfortable fit and sometimes causing chaffing or blistering. It also provides more blood flow to your toes and foot by taking the pressure off the top of the foot.
If any of you get numbness of the toes or the foot this little trick can make a big difference.
So how does one tie a shoe?

Thanks for the reference; I learned about this at REI when I decided to get some minimalist footwear and I had problems with fitment. These Merrells, at least, feel a LOT better than with traditional lacing!

Hello, thanks for your review. Quick question, will this technique also help you so somehow minimize toe bang? I have Greek Feet (Morton's toe) where my second toe is larger than the fat one by a good 1/2 inch. Most shoes have a particular shape which favor the first toe as the largest one. Getting bigger shoes doesn't help either. So, I am thinking, will this sort of 'push back' or keep the foot from going too forward inside the shoe. At this time I am looking at my next purchase and everything else I have is beat up, or partially destroyed. What do you think?

I still don't get how this keeps the heel down ...just an extra lacing at the dorsum ...not seeing it touching any heel

Shoes still need more padding at the back, even doing this gives me blisters, i have done this many times and i still get slippage or a dead foot if it's too tight.
Extra sticking padding works too or a small piece of foam between your heal and your sock works great too combined with this technique.
Ask a shoe expert to do this and they look at you stupidly, makes you wonder how they got a job.

I have tried many padding but it won’t stick because of the material. Any recommendations?

what the heck is and eyelet

    • @user-pd7il3xz5j

an eyelet is the opening in the shoe where the shoe lace gets threaded through.
Clothing that gets laced up also has eyelets.
