    I always clown England fans for having Southgate as their manager, but I never realized how similar our situation is to theirs. It's two cases of the fans vs the manager, except the players somehow defend their manager like their lives depended on it.

    • @pjkerrigan20
      @pjkerrigan20 Месяц назад +17

      So true, but I think pound-for-pound Southgate is still a better manager than Greggy. Southgate could work wonders for a relegation-threatened side when it really mattered in the league, but I’d never trust Berhalter with a job like that. Don’t get me wrong, Southgate is not a good enough manager for England, but he’s legitimately better than Gregg

      @@koalaorange. Iceland beat the same side in the euros that Southgate took to the world cup semi's. He has the best record of any England manager since Ramsay and has transitioned the squad. Club football is totally different and I agree Southgate would struggle in the premier league but he is a good England manager otherwise Sven Goran Eriksson and Fabio capello must be even worse given they had better overall squads and did less

    • @tajj7
      @tajj7 Месяц назад +5

      I am not Southgate's biggest fan at all and he is baffling me at the current Euros, however the guy has taken England to a World Cup semi final, a Euros final loss on pens and an unlucky world cup quarter final loss where we outplayed the eventual finalists France and Harry Kane missed a pen. That is basically better, multiple times than we had previously managed in the last 30+ years, and with arguably better teams under Erikson and Capello (the likes of scholes, gerrard, owen, rooney, ferdinand, cole, terry etc. in those teams). Southgate despite all his detractors can point to relative success compared to what has gone before. He was a couple of pens away from winning a major trophy. Not sure the same can be said for Berhalter, as Z says he hasn't achieved anything more than what has gone before. I think one of the biggest similarities is seemingly all the England players love Southgate, he has been managing them for like 8+ years, some even longer in the U21s and they all seem to just love him for some reason, and maybe like the US team there just isn't enough separation between manager and players there.

      Canada scored one goal and was fortunate to have two red cards in two consecutive games go their way in the 18th and 25th minute. They never looked threatening against teams who were pressing with a man down. Jesse Marsh is not the answer and his failure at Leeds was monumental. He brought in a bunch of Americans to try and shore up his team to stay in the league and they got substantially worse. McKennie looked like a lost child at Leeds and was fortunate Pogba got banned directly after an FFP violation by Juve or he would never have seen game time. People look at one result or one tournament and think they found success. Canada was lucky and they look just as bad as the US. No American coach is the answer. NO AMERICAN COACH IS THE ANSWER. If we don’t hire a legit coach from the highest level in Europe, you can prepare your excuses for the next tournament because you will need them. The players, the coach, and the federation are all substandard and in desperate need of an overhaul… and some freaking humility.

    I feel your pain Zealand. Yet, based on what you said you might have a bigger problem than Berhalter.
    The situation reminds of the situation at Manchester United where everything sucks from top to bottom. The owners are cheapskates only interested in making money, the directors are incompetent and no one takes them seriously, the stadium has fallen in disrepair, the fans are revolting and not supporting the team, the player squad is out of balance and not performing as they should. In such a case, just kicking out the manager has a very small chance of actually changing something.
    From what you've said, the entire structure of American "soccer" needs to be revolutionised and in such a case you need to start at the top. You need a national bond capable of expanding the sport commercially, remove the thresholds for more people start playing, find some actually good officials and set up an academy structure that can compete with all other big sports. In the meantime, you need to wrestle control back from the squad, sell them a vision on how the national team should play and conduct itself and what their role in that plan should be. They need to find someone with actual expertise that can lay out a plan for at least 4 years. All while avoiding businesses or shareholders to suck up the resources for themselves. It will all start with hiring the right people at the top.

      they all know this, from top to bottom. The problem is that - like everywhere else on the planet - the money loving scums at the top of the pyramids have become even more money loving and even more cynical and they won't give up their positions or wealth for anything, ever! We see this across the globe with all wealthy people, especially in these dire times when the wealth is being polarized into even less hands while the middle classes of people the world over are turning into lower classes even more. The (financial) system that's our society is based on needs to fall (and is already collapsing),. but a result of this collapse is the fact that the egotistical, non-empathic pieces of sh*t at the top of society become even more greedy, more egotistical, and downright evil, which is why they refuse to care about anything else but their own wealth and power...

      they wanted to hire an easy to control yesman, regardless of whether their puppet was a coach or a team buddy. The scums at the top of the USSF pyramid are either too egotistical and don't want to give up their power, control and wealth to anyone else, or - most likely - the obscenely wealthy oligarchs that own the sports in USA don't want football (the real football, not the abomination that americans call football) to take over the other sports because this means that the oligarchs lose money and power. So, the failure of football catching onto the american public is the sweetest deal for the owners of the other sports, which is why they've probably infiltrated USSF with their own men (that proactively "work" towards keeping football in a bad status quo at worst, or fully destroy it at best) and which is why they prefer a weak cuck like GGG that they can manipulate and who guarantees them failure after failure to the point that the fans hopefully give up caring about this sport and instead turn their attention back to the other sports, putting money into the pockets of the aforementioned oligarchs (that own the other sports). USA is a cartel and a (neo-phascist) concept, it's not a real country and the sooner you, americans, see and understand this, the faster you'll be able to get rid of it (if you want to that is)... Until then... well... you'll keep suffering while making the oligarchs richer :)

    US soccer, have ambition! American athletes in other sports don't just want to show up, they WANT TO WIN.
    Look at Connor McDavid (Canadian, yes, but it's the only other sport I follow) in the Stanley Cup Final. He got his team all the way to an improbable comeback and narrowly last in the last game. He was heartbroken because he said at the beginning of the season that it was cup or bust. That's a good athlete.
    US Soccer and its players are not showing that they want to win, that they would consider anything less to be a failure. They're just talking about showing up and "testing themselves" against the world's best, not about actually beating them. Zealand said it, but that's loser mentality. They're not being coached to have that fire to use or exceed their talents and win. Uruguay are theoretically a better team but that match was winnable. Panama was winnable. Win, try to win, put your heart out on the pitch, do it for your country. Only then will US soccer players and their team be taken seriously.

    • @kylejohansen689
      @kylejohansen689 Месяц назад +1

      While I appreciate the intent behind what you're saying, McDavid is the best player in the world, someone who can drag his team to wins single-handedly. The US has nobody in his stratosphere from a skill, mental, or physical standpoint. Though they have a decent roster, they can't rely on a Messi, Ronaldo, or Mbappe to carry them. They have to do it as a team, and that's where having a bad coach really hurts.

Recently in the Euros there was a similar situation with Georgia who were fighting for their lives with no guarantee of advancing even with a win and Portugal who didn't really care about the outcome of the match, and Georgia beat Portugal 2-0 with a coherent counter-attacking strategy with an impenetrable defense. That's how you can shut down more talented teams and eek out needed victories, and a good manager and properly drilled players could certainly (if not easily) have beaten Uruguay in that match (which was only 1-0 with a certainly defendable goal being the only deciding factor).

Outside of CONCACAF, it’s never seemed to be a “we can beat these guys” but it’s been more of a “we can keep pace with these guys.”
    Blame the refs all we want. They deserve it for their abysmally biased decisions. But at the end of the day, it was win or go home. THAT should have been the mentality going in. We have this weird thing of playing not to lose, and it’s killing me.

    the US has a lot of talent. sure its not spain or england but still good. they need believe in themselves and a way better coach. sounds like a job for klopp lol. its never going to happen but damn i want it so much. and i am 0% american and have nothing to do with the country. i pray that the US will be much better at their home world cup. a host is supposed to lose the grand final and not drop out of the group 😜

    I think Gregg is going to use the players as scapegoats and bring in some MLS guys who can play his system. that's my prediction
