It's very odd of you to campaign against a specific party, the DA. This differs vastly from what I thought SMWX qualitatively.
I fully agree. The DA arent perfect but they want a better SA. Their solutions might not what we all agree to but their intention is on point.
But burning the flag is not justifiable. DA has scored own goal on this one
Burning of RSA that flag represent all of the people who live in it @@goverflow
According to STATS SA, the Western Cape is by far the best governed Province in the whole of SA, thanks solely to the DA!
Do you know that four out of every five new jobs in SA over the past five years were created in the Western Cape??
Then let those who are benefiting from this vote and those neglected look elsewhere and let the numbers talk, that's fair.
Die DA is nes enige ander politieke party is daar vir hulle eie gewin. Kyk hoe nalatig is die DA staatsraad van George. Ons moet eerder bang wees vir die DA hulle sal ook die land verbrand.
I am wondering what criteria is used to identify the best-governed province because most townships do not have access to basic services. . Although the DA has done well to portray themselves as the best party to create equality in South Africa, they are struggling to achieve this in one province. This does not take away from the great work they are doing in the province
"The future of this country is it's people, not political parties".
Tessa Dooms.👌🏿👏🏿
South Africa used to have a thriving textile industry.
Some time later ANC started importing cheap clothes from China 🇨🇳 and that lead to the closure of textile mills and huge job losses 😢.
I remember the time when the locally made clothes displayed a "PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN 🇿🇦" label attached to them.
Those cheap imports were of very low quality and didn't last long.
After that and similar actions by the ANC, there is NOTHING to be proud of SOUTH AFRICA 🇿🇦 😡.
What's that has to do with burning our flag?
@mzugo_sa it represents the fact that whatever the ANC "touches" turns to dust."
In this case, to ashes"😢
The South African flag 🇿🇦 represented a new beginning to ALL its people in 1994, but just spare a thought at what has become of this beautiful country.
Definitely "NOT PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN" anymore 😕
Despite the SABC as mouthpiece of the ANC refusing to air the ad, its caused more publicity than ever. Keep pumping...
publicity for publicity's sake is useless.
Name one self respecting political party that does not purpot to get SA out of the doodoo the ANC has served for 30 years??
It's always about how bad the other parties are than how good the DA is. That's how the DA operates. The WC is going away from the DA, that will be the biggest blow to them.
Spot on about the AD being targeted at a specific group of people. Fear mongering will not work, it runs out of legs eventually.
DA targets colour poeple did those colours poeple being treated badly by black poeple in our location
the DA is the only party that runs municipalities that gets clean audits. as someone who genuinely doesn't understand - why would you vote for political parties whose leaders steal from taxpayers?
Malema: on point engineering and vbs
Zuma: state capture, secrecy bill, rape accused, arms deal
Ramaphosa: Phala Phala, Marikana massacre
Show me equivalence in the DA and I will concede that they are not better. However an honest and ethical government will always be better than a corrupt one.
@@MaximilienDanton your comment will be deleted by SMWX..they are staunch EFF supporters & EFF is uncomfortable with free speech (it goes against marxist-leninism)
Thank you very much for this episode, I truly appreciate it!
Could be considered as a faux pas from the DA but you looking to hard into it as oppose to what the ANC has visibly done for the country so far. There’s a focus on the poor in the Cape and how they live but how do you deal with massive influx of people into a province especially with a failing national government. You have a lot of energy to discuss this topic as oppose to many other failings of the leading party as well as the EFF. I’m failing to find the same comment with as much vigor laying into them. Clearly anomosity against the DA. Every part feels that they can change the country and save the country including the EFF.
there are massive influxes into other provinces as well. Do you want your apartheid influx control reinstated? South Africa belongs to all who live in it. people can stay everywhere they wish
@@lawrencemaswabi5203
Nowhere did he say that he wants migration control. It is a challenge experienced by a few provinces and he merely questions how to deal with it.He's talking about the DA so , naturally he refers to the only DA run province.

It is great though that you are so peeved by the ad that you so clearly and deliberately misrepresent, coz it's highly effective.
I hear you sister loud and clear, thanks for this episode and for clearing our minds for some of us❤

Love the ad. Spot on.
DA quote on their website " Our democratic flag, which represents all the people of South Africa, espouses the values of Unity in Diversity and we must rally behind this flag, and work towards a shared future."

An advert with a meaning they knew it's wrong that's why they didn't burn a real flag but a digital flag
thanks sister . you have breaking it down nicely . i agree with you.
Brilliant work by the DA, this 30s add gave DA more free airtime than all other parties combined
Watch DA fall below 20%

Brilliantly reminding us why even though they claim to be “so great” we will never vote for them. Many parties have mushroomed, because the DA will never be a viable alternative for the masses. Stubbornly tone deaf

The reality the ANC were handed a functional Country and by all metrics the country has collapsed under ANC - we need a new Codesa in a changed political system that insurer accountability - imagine another 5 years under this lot - more unemployment etc
Whoever believes that when this country was taken over by ANC was functional is suffering from rare desieses,,remember South Africa was bankrupt, total bankrupt, the apartheid looted and there was nothing ,hence the this government is owing so much due to borrowing to run it. People must read or do research before uttering any unscientific argument . Also it show how naive and blank certain citizens are, indact they are fed by racist liberal so called who want to keep the previous order of this country. Yes the current government has regress some gains but no one ,mean no reseasonable person with sober mind can utter such statement. It is true certain individuals has become corrupt particularly certain leaders push narrative of missism hence they are out through internal cleansing. The corrupt selfish so called has been out of the real glorious movement and there is no need to mention them by name, pure ( IMIGODOYI) and the ANC will never again gave difficulty taking care of its citizens.
Therefore it is a responsibility of each and every citizen to guard against such tendency and become active participant in their lives, from street , area, branch regional level so that any corrupt individual within out society can be easily identified and exposed.
Lastly it can only be a blind and deaf individual who can not differentiate between what has been done and total nothing done by current government.
@@JNjingayamoto The ANC's problem was they were activists not politicians, they had no experience in government so it was stupid really to assume they would be able to simply pick up on how to govern.
@@JNjingayamoto by economic metrics Mbeki + Manuel were doing a terrific job until 2007. But corruption & nepotism had already started to set in under Mbeki. The rot then got 100-times worse under Zuma. And now the ANC is like a criminal cartel.
It is very sad that this once proud liberation movement has turned into this.

On the eve of Women's Day last year a mother murdered her children and committed suicide, and a week later another similar incident occurred. It was initially reported about the dire circumstances these families faced daily, hopelessness leading to these events, and then later dismissed because the mother of the first incident was stated as suffering from a psychiatric disorder (colloquially). Also reported last year, in a village of South Africa, about children dying from malnutrition, mother's unable to provide feeding (from self) to their babies due to the circumstances rendering themselves unhealthy. We certainly cannot be afraid of the situation, we must rectify it unitedly, but their are human-created horror circumstances in this country and a terrifying reality everyday for some. Not everyone can stand proud, or stand at all, in being a South African citizen.
Ayeye DA Ayeye 😅!!

@Citizenconcerned, this is a proper analysis!
Thank you Thesa. well put
it seem as if people care more about the symbol than the actual country that is burning, if this AD was done by the EFF people will be here telling us about how genius and informative it was. DA must be left to do what they think its best for them.
The problem with the DA is that they treat South Africa, it's people and it's politics as if it was just another country in Europe. They have such an overwhelming sense of Eurocentric thinking that informs their thinking, the actions and the policies. That is not the way forward for a developmental African state. We need our own way of thinking and deciding, we can't treat South Africa as a typical western democracy in Europe.
then what should we go for, clearly a socialist and communist party doesn't work in an african state. The DA is a very liberal party and there are lots of liberal parties in Europe and one in the US, they work. It's not wrong to base something off a system in other countries that works, it works in the western cape, so why can't it work in the rest of the country
Well said.
Perfect analysis, I wish you were the DA leader. You definitely understand that black people don't want all this separation, we want a party that has interest of all people in South Africa, we all want to live a normal life and have good relations with all races in SA. I even think that land should not be taken from white but rather bring in black people and make them knowledgeable about business and farming, white people should share and we will have more equality
Noted. but how has anc treated its voters for the last 30 years? what is anc thought process? they pretend to be socialist/communist, to care for everyone, but when it comes to corruption, anc are totally capitalist.... ask our boy Cyril.... he knows.... the POS... anc motto should be my stomach first.... fat political pigs/cattle
@@n.m6249 i am against the ad + don't like the DA. but as a member of a minority group in south africa, it is worrying that Malema is on record as saying "we are not calling for the killing of white people - at least for now".
but among minorities there is very much a legitimised perception of what EFF people seem to be planning for minorities...
The first section offers a very poor analysis because it racializes the issue. The MK, ANC, and EFF are political rivals of the DA not because they are led by blacks, but due to their political ideologies and policies. There is no basis for suggesting that the DA opposes them because of their race; such a claim lacks merit. These parties, along with the DA, are the top four parties, making them inherently rivals. Suggesting that criticism from the ANC towards the DA is solely because the DA is a white party implies a racist undertone.
She never claimed the DA opposes its opponents due to race. The DA is white-led indeed and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. The problem is the way they communicate their agenda; their language is often accusatory in nature, accusing other political parties, even the small ones, of the bad things they do. The DA appeals to the middle class and elites who control the economy of the country and are predominantly white. The DA should find a better way to speak to everyone if they want to grab more votes from other races because right now, the majority of the population thinks the DA is racist.
@MidnightTheOne You raise a common misperception about the DA which is not actually true!!
The DA is the most racially diverse political party in the history of SA, with Black, White, Coloured and Indian South Africans all featuring in its Top 6 leadership!!! Which other political party in SA can match that???
The DA in fact represents the Rainbow that is SA better than any other political party in the country!
The DA also has many very young, very honest and very capable leaders of all races across all the different Provinces in the country!!
Having watched the truly inspirational Arte tv Documentary about Mayor Chris Pappas (32) of uMngeni Municipality in KZN and his Deputy Mayor Sandile Mnikathii (28) on RUclips, the DA is by far the most progressive, the most compassionate and the most experienced choice to take SA and the Multi Party Charter forward in 2024!!
@tonitappous2422 I'm not disputing the demographic of the DA nor their governance capabilities. I'm questioning their intentions and priorities because looking at CT for example, the CBD, tourist spots and suburban areas are beautiful and well-run, but both locals and tourists who step out to the townships see a very different reality (much like you'd see in ANC-run provinces).
I don't think the DA is interested in governing for the whole nation, just the middle-class and the elites. I'll believe otherwise when I see it.

Tessa, I am really disappointed in some of the statements you have made here. This advert has nothing to do with racism, so please don't try to stoke the fires of racism now. The DA is not trying to create a sense of fear of "black leadership" - now you have taken it too far. The ANC and EFF are racist political parties themselves! They have no respect for the people of South Africa. Such a disappointing and nonsensical analysis of this advert.

You have answered your own question. While I disagree with this myself, it appears you are advocating that white people are scared to be part of a black society. If this is true, then surely "separate development" is the way to go? I disagree with this - I don't care who my neighbour is, as long as we share similar values : keep the garden clean, get the children to school on time, have the potholes filled in. I do agree that we are in a massive crisis situation and I would say that drastic action needs to be taken. One statistic can show this : in a worldwide survey of 10-year old children, it appears that 80% of South African children cannot "read for meaning". Our next generation of school leavers cannot read and write. Is this something to be proud of?

The future for them will be quite bleak.
Is it non-racist to specify a racist quota?
Theres no problem with the ad, worry more about your livelihoods burning under our current government which does affect you, rather than the DA burning a copy of the flag which doesnt affect you
When our democracy was in it's "teens" I watched a debate in which one of the participants personified our country and argued we needed to to get to a point of maturity. At 30 societal expectation is that one would have reached that state. I found the ad very effective and this analysis would have been in place fifteen / twenty years ago
A mouthful said, we Thank you for an unbiased view of a disgraceful act.
Also, the comments on this video along with who they are made by are very telling. This is the exact split in the country being played out before us in writing. At the very least, The DA has succeeded at further dividing the country by radicalizing everyone either extremely for or against them and sharpening our differences.
I think that's what's being done by the ANC and EFF.... These are the parties that benefit from the division
And it's true what you said about the comments, they are very telling 😒🤔
'Lethu umshini wam ngidubuli bhunu!' There should a remix on these songs.
Bring your machine, i pray God deals with you in the name of Jesus
If you're doubtful that EFF will liberate a black child, search this video and thank me later BCC: Last grave at Dimbaza
Well analysed, well structured, well spoken on this topic. It would be hard to find any Black or Brown person who can argue against this successfully. I am represented in this, thank you.
Tessa you covered this so well, spot on about the burning of the flag. DA could have gotten the same message across without burning our flag. The flag represents us as a country, not the ANC and I personally get offended when someone burns it.
that's pretty dumb, to burn the flag. You should want to live in a country where you are free to burn your flag, but it doesn't ever occur to you to ever burn the flag - paraphrased from others smarter than me
EFF destroyed clicks and h&m. Tessa showed her bias here. Learn from Sizwe.
I can respect your perspective that the ad was in poor taste, in fact, I tend to agree. But calling it a racist trope is a massive reach. This rant really lacked objectivity
da missed me right here, infact the advert reinforced my reasons not to vote da them.
The advertising ( da Advert Team) company used is big factor on the massage whom & how the massage will come across as, for me it was offencive.
SMXW I like the illustration of #rhodesmustfall and all other colonial and apartheid the symbol we're damaged because of what they represented.
But to initiate and actually burn our sacred flag then claim that it's ANC and EFF doing that is abnoxious as there's no visuals of ANC & EFF in the advert doing the did.
The DA did not miss you. You obviously do not understand the nuance and purpose of the ad. Did you even watch the whole ad?
On the point of comparing this to burning in protest culture, and trying to use that as a point of contrast; they very explicitly set themselves apart from that group of society, which is going to be the underserved black majority in this country. We're getting the short end, so we're likely to protest, and being told that burning of the literal flag is better calls into question who exactly the DA's message is for. Certainly not the electorate that is so sick of the ruling party that they'd protest (the people I'd imagine opposition parties would be trying to win over). Clearly its the subset of people who have enough property and businesses to be spurned by protest action, and not the dejected masses who's only political outlet is protest action. Again, it looks like the reason the DA's strategies and priorities aren't making sense to the majority of us is likely because they are not meant for the black majority.
This is so distasteful. I hate even how it's supporters do not seem to get it. They say they want to send a strong message it must just do the opposite
It's far more distasteful how the ANC is destroying the country.
Phephisa. Uhlulwa yi context / nuance / purpose yale advert. The presenter sounds biased and racist.
DA is not for our country. That’s why they’ll remain there in Western Cape, specifically Cape Town forever. Even the marginalized Coloured community is starting to see their true colors. They are an Exteme right wing cult pretending to be a political party which advocates for Democracy. People who stood for Palestine in the Western Cape were bullied, some had their Palestine flags torn. Today we have people pushing for the independence of Western Cape because they know DA will never win South Africa. Anyway how can such a party win South Africa while it is only known for 1 city? If you could go to Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West, Northern Cape and ask them what’s DA they’ll think it’s a new pandemic disease
But black African still voting for them
Not true I'm from Middelburg Mpumalanga and my town used to be run by the DA and it was flourishing and at some point it was even the cleanest town in South Africa until ANC took over and ruined it
@@ThembalamiMahlangu I’m from Siyabuswa not far from Middleburg, if DA was doing so well as you claim then why did you vote for the ANC? You talk as if ANC took everything through a coup.
@@maburwanemokoena7117 They took by lying to black people about how they'll never succeed so long as they have white people in charge same as in other places
Bring Dr Sizwe- Mpofu Walsh back - he is far more skilled at presenting a measured view.
DA still recognise the old apartheid flag what more do you want.AWB mentality is still alive in DA ranks.
where's your proof
Truth like this needs to be told
DA literally arose from the DP, the anti-apartheid parliamentary opposition to the NP. Learn your history before talking jazz.
@@christopherwiles6408 burning of the flag
💯
Violent DA
DA once again snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
The DA is pathetic, the ANC realized this when they kept running election campaigns on what they have achieved during democracy.
The campaign manager of the DA is scored a brilliant own goal🤦🏾♂️🤣🤣
DA is looking its old apartheid flag, which simply means they need the return of the the same
Vote DA
DA is the National Party period!
The ANC is the NP
The national party joined the ANC. But the country keeps voting for the anc?
Lala land indeed.
You are racist voting for anc/eff/mk they are all black members.. take off your blinkers

Our is our pride, that's what the DA thinks od democracy and hence they want 2 create a white state in WEC, we cannot be divided as 🇿🇦South Africans as we celebrated 30yrs democracy free from Apartheid ❤️
You worry to much off eff
i am against the ad. but as a member of a minority group in south africa, it is worrying for me & my elderly family that Malema is on record as saying "we are not calling for the killing of white people - at least for now".
so to your point of perceptions of the DA ... among minorities there is very much a legitimised perception of what EFF people are planning for minorities...
