I could be wrong, but on the pick I feel like McKenzie is supposed to be where the throw was delivered. He was supposed to run a route that gets the first down at the sideline. Instead, he cut his route short and ended up near the NFL logo.
McKenzie was interviewed on the sideline during the Colts broadcast and acknowledged it was on him. AR took blame too though as did Coach Steichen because they didn't practice that specific edge pressure situation. Like Deion Sanders once said, don't waste a mistake and instead, learn from it.
I feel like this is the best assessment of that game so far. So many people look at stat line, which was ugly, but miss the process. I came away excited about AR and his potential, not discounting him based on the INT and lack of points.

On the pick, I think that you were right. The O-line's blocking scheme didn't seem to make much sense. The G and T doubled the 3-tech, and on the weakside, the G should've at least chipped the DE before climbing to the second level. Instead, the DE was given a free run up the middle, b/c the T to that side picked up the CB blitz. Given that they had a man advantage in the box, they probably would've been better off running it. I'm surprised that you didn't mention the fact that he's not reading the D. These were all pre-designed throws, where the receiver he was throwing to was chosen pre-snap. As for that throw over the middle, I think that that important part of that was not that he threw a 12-yard fastball; it was that he was blind to the backer in the middle of his vision. He never saw him, and he got lucky that he didn't get his hand on it. As to that inside-out route, where he dropped it right in, yes, that was a great throw. But, watching his film, that's the only time out of 10 that he's going to make that throw. That's the important take-away from this. He has zero consistency.
On that tight end come back he was square to the throw and then opened up his lead foot to the outside as he was throwing. Which is why he pushed that ball too far outside

3:30. I think wrong route. I would also rather have an option on the slot to run his route based on what his defender is doing. If it's RPO, then the ball has to come out quick. If the guy covering the slot comes on a pressure, then it should be a speed out to the slot.
the play with the INT had rookie RT Blake Freeland playing. He is not the starting RT but he was clearly getting 1st team reps since Braden Smith (the actual starting RT) was getting reps with 2nd team instead as the back-up center since he's next-in-line should starting Center Ryan Kelly ever go down. Freeland obviously needs the reps because he also caused 1 of the sacks to Minshew due to shitty blocking...
Wouldn’t hank be an option route.. Wr has to adjust his route inside vs outside leverage.. outside vs inside or stem back in bracket? I mean if you’re not running that as a choice route based on the defense set and coverage then this is setting up for failure on design concept alone cause read one and two are the same read.. then you moving from one to the other side of the field to the 3 read.. this also doesn’t give much for hots unless you get a Sam blitz.. and running this as a curl woukd make even less ensue cause then you’re coming back into the 2 read and standing 3’ apart from each other..
I don’t like that last play design either.. the intermediate route should whip out not in.. the back coming through the line should whip back in not out or fade out and hook back In.. this gives you a quick 1-2-3 read with safe throws to the sidelines 2x and one easy check back over the middle
15:29. I'm teaching that to go to Pittman. He's your dog. He's won the route. AR has to make a perfect throw to make the corner work. He does make the throw, but the Pittman route is easy work to your big guy.
Great assessment JT! You're right he is better than ppl give him credit for and he will show it in season.. It's so many haters because he's making the haters look stupid by playing better than both the Top prospects so the haters that said he wouldn't still talk bad and wish bad because they know they feel stupid now deep down for calling him a bust and saying that Young and Stroud was better but he's proven them wrong and you know ppl don't like to just admit they were wrong and give credit where's its due.. So find somebody else to debate with HATER! LOL
On his pick, the RG didnt check down to his right and attempted to double team the guy the center had. It gave that DL man a straight path to Richardson. I do believe the RG is either a rookie or a younger guy lacking experience
Even Hull shit the bed on the block after the RT switched to the CB blitz. Hull has to chip someone at minimum.. there’s 7 bodies capable of blocking the blitzing defenders
Busy today. And I feel Young has major upside. And AR is raw as expected. Still very young and has time to grow and improve. And he has major major upside. And showed some Anticipation!!!!
On that pick, that ball should've been out before the WR finishes his quick cut out. It should've also been low. McKenzie should've had to dive for it. It's either a completion, or the ball is in the dirt.
On the first interception, why didn't the RB try to block that DE when he was clearly blocking on that play... He basically close enough to touch the defender but damn near let him pass
I'm not as blown away by his anticipation as you are. he stared at a guy who was running to the sticks and then he threw to the sticks. that's all he did.
Yep. McKenzie not changing his route put Richardson in a bad spot. But Richardson made the wrong choice. Glad it happened as it will give him something to learn from. If a play breaks down like that it is ok to take a sack or sling it out of bounds.
Is there any argument to be made that he could have put that ball up higher and ahead of Pierce to allow him to keep his separation for an easier catch, or you think this is the best ball placement he could have had for that? Watching it back, I get like he left it just a touch short forcing Pierce to let up just a bit and allowing the db back into the play. Genuinely curious here.

The first few times i watched the INT I couldn't even tell where the ball was going. It's like I saw him cock back and next thing I knew it was in the defender's hands
Before I watch, I'm sharing my thoughts: AR looked absolutely unready to start, and it's shocking the Colts want to see what happens with him as starter so soon. He does not see the full field, he does not anticipate throws, and he largely ceases to be a QB at all when pressure comes at him. I would bet against him ever having him turn the corner into a serious NFL QB. He does not have a background as a big throwing QB like Lamar Jackson did for instance. Jackson threw the ball a lot in high school and college. AR barely threw it in either. AR mostly only accumulated stats in the 4th quarter of games UF was getting pummeled.
The RB could have "chipped" the pass rush in play #1. Problem is, he's a nobody, and nobody's don't do shit extra. The RT saw the blitz and picked up the Outside rusher. The RB should also see the blitz coming. This is why the front office loved Joseph Addai so much. He would have picked up that pass rush.
Pierce has to catch that beauty of a throw. Could not make a throw more perfect than that. Maybe the WR turning his shoulder to the turf instead of landing directly onto the ball allowing it to squeeze out.
I was more impressed with AR's short passing..something I was told he can't do. But the screens and checkdowns were on target and on time

Hey i really like the content, could you do a breakdown of Frank Harris from UTSA? He is really good.
Please do Will Levis & or Malik Willis!!
When are we getting preseason week 3 of AR5?
The handoff was open on that int
Please tell us about your thoughts about Trey Lance raiders. Maybe Kyle makes an appearance…
Dude's a beast and he seems like he has a good attitude, he'll be fine
15:29. I'm teaching that to go to Pittman. He's your dog. He's won the route. AR has to make a perfect throw to make the corner work. He does make the throw, but the Pittman route is easy work to your big guy.
How many rookies go no huddle in their preseason debut?
Could you please do one on Raiders Aidan O’conell vs the 49ers
That pop shouldn’t be 2 step drop.. that needs to be pivot throw so it’s out faster
They prefer to keep HATIN and wishing bad on him so they can say they were right.. Lol..COLTS NATION ALL DAY! LET'S GOOO
Dude it was less than 1 pre season game. They picked him for his upside which is still unknown. That performance was to be expected. All they were doin was dipping his toes in the water. He doesn't even know how to swim yet.
@@mikeronald3812 his upside not to unknown anymore with the performance he put on his first game because if he played that well his first game then that pretty much shows how much better he's most likely gonna get during season.. Not to mention he still has a month to get Alot better than that game.. And he looked to me like he knows how to swim better than the top two draft picks.. So I'd say he's swimming pretty damn gd.. So find somebody else to debate with HATER! LOL
Stuff to work on? Definitely. Stuff to be excited about? Absolutely.
Can you break down Aiden O'Connell?
Can we get ZW vs Panthers?
On his pick, the RG didnt check down to his right and attempted to double team the guy the center had. It gave that DL man a straight path to Richardson. I do believe the RG is either a rookie or a younger guy lacking experience
Super excited to see AR5 develop here this year
Imagine being a corner and 6'4" 255 lbs of muscle is coming at you with 4.4 40 speed
the smart thing for them would be to take the L and live another play lol.
Can u do a vid on aiden O'Connell?
Do you expect him to run more often?
MVP talks by year 2.
Am I the only one that feels that JT has an unintentional ASMR quality to his analysis?
On that pick, that ball should've been out before the WR finishes his quick cut out. It should've also been low. McKenzie should've had to dive for it. It's either a completion, or the ball is in the dirt.
On the first interception, why didn't the RB try to block that DE when he was clearly blocking on that play... He basically close enough to touch the defender but damn near let him pass
he's a rookie. They'll all learn from their mistakes, or at least they better lol.
it was an RPO. The RB thinks he is getting the ball
I'm not as blown away by his anticipation as you are. he stared at a guy who was running to the sticks and then he threw to the sticks. that's all he did.
Mckenzie said that the INT was his fault after in the press conference
Yep. McKenzie not changing his route put Richardson in a bad spot. But Richardson made the wrong choice. Glad it happened as it will give him something to learn from. If a play breaks down like that it is ok to take a sack or sling it out of bounds.
AOC next please!
The db had no physical part in breaking that pass up. That was a clean pass and bad drop from Pierce.
@@XxFWLxX311 are you the one who posted this video?
Then it would be an OVERTHROW. Pierce made the catch but didn't finish the "Full control" phase.Throw was PERFECT.
@@jamesbrockett6045 You asked a question in general. I answered. I know you are a gym bro and IQ isn't very common for you, but that's how the internet works
@@XxFWLxX311 I asked the creator of the video a question. Never insult someones intelligence while being a moron. It’s not a good look.
In case you missed it, by using the word you, I’m directing my question into a specific direction rather than a general one. Like this. I think you are a tool. See how that’s not just directed any anyone, but at you specifically? Good job. You learned something today.
Love AR - humble likeable kid. AR has a 105 mph fastball and they trying to turn this thrower into a pitcher. Sit him for a year and let him learn. You throw this kid into the fire from the jump and it will be a disaster. He's barely played any football. Everyone is in a rush these days. Minshew knows this offense and he's very smart. He will teach him.
Can you do a video on my boy Stetson “The mailman” Bennett
Guy is gonna be a stud if the front office doesn’t bungle it
And you know they will just like they did with luck 😭
@lumineer_3 The only QB the texans have had worth talking about did nothing in Houston 😢. Except get massages, I guess. The front office handled that like pros 🙄
@@dernify well I guess Houston’s lucky that everyone in that front office is gone🙏🏽
@@lumineer_3Lazy, follow the lemmings, low info comment.
Luck was his own worst enemy. Didn't slide until his last season.
Played 1.5 seasons with a torn labrum. He lied to coaches, mgmt, team doctors & specialist about it not causing pain.
Came clean after signing $100+mil deal then falls on that shoulder while snowboarding while recovering.
He chose a Stanford doctor who specializes in hips & knees for the surgery against the advice of the team.
His doctor bungled the surgery. And he will be the first one to say he didn't listen to PT and raced thru rehab which also set him back.
So yeah, let's blame the team.
@@MetaTaco317 yea man what ever helps you sleep at night. Even JT wants out and I don’t blame him, but he’s gonna come back because the RB market is trashed
The first few times i watched the INT I couldn't even tell where the ball was going. It's like I saw him cock back and next thing I knew it was in the defender's hands
Audio needs to be bumped up
Talk ab trey lance plz
Do Aidan o’ connell
I bet one day there’s gonna be a dude who makes it to the NFL watching your videos.
Boom hahaha 🤣🤣sent me bro 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Cool
The RB could have "chipped" the pass rush in play #1. Problem is, he's a nobody, and nobody's don't do shit extra. The RT saw the blitz and picked up the Outside rusher. The RB should also see the blitz coming. This is why the front office loved Joseph Addai so much. He would have picked up that pass rush.
Aiden O'Connell?
Going to be a long season for the Colts!
