      Police and FBI can not act, it can only REACT. There lots of limitations on what they can do. Parents should group together, not as vigilantes but as a crime prevention force to confront potential trouble. Students know who the students are who create trouble. Put them to work as surveillance and monitoring arm. Another idea is to actually arm some students secretly to confront or put the attacker on the defensive.

      Linda Brown yes maam, we are on our own, which is why we needs guns to defend ourselves. think about it, schools are known gun free zones. every mass shooter knows that no one in thst school will be able to shoot back til cops arrive. to a psycho, schools are fish in a barrel. until we arm teachers, this will not stop no matter what laws are passed. they want common sense laws? then stop disarming the teachers! imagine if thr teacher had even a pistol when this psycho came in. the death toll would be substantially lower, if not zero.

  • @jeffkoe310
    @jeffkoe310 6 лет назад +285

    This never happened 40 years ago, or at least very rare. Is anyone asking why school shorting as well as teen suicides are so prevalent? We used to have an intact mental health support system which included LONG TERM CARE for people when needed. Just do the research about "deinstitutionalization of mental health care. " Why did it go away? It was decided to be too expensive, so this is the price we pay. Is it worth it? Is community mental health adequate for everyone? Not even close.

      +Jeffery Koenig It was also a social movement to destigmatize mental illness. Mental institutions were much maligned as being inhumane and uncaring. Most were simply closed and former inmates found themselves friendless, homeless and without sufficient support. It was cruel and misguided.

      Jeffrey Koenig it’s so the government has free population control

    • @crazyhai6554
      @crazyhai6554 6 лет назад +10

      @Jeffrey Koenig I'm a forensic psychologist. My tuppence would be, it's far more complicated than that.
      There wasn't some brilliant mental health system 40 years ago, that magically identified and stopped most murderous killers. Even nowadays, there just isn't the research knowledge yet, to identify all mass murderers before they commit crimes (nowhere near). The joke is, 'a psychiatrist could safely release half of their inpatients today. They just don't know which half'. 40 years ago, there was even less knowledge.
      Absolutely mental health funding cuts don't help matters. But I would say the main reason, that school shootings have become more prevalent in the US, is because they have become a highly 'cultural' crime.
      There are behaviours that are copied en masse in different places, in different eras. It becomes the 'done' thing to do in that culture (if you have certain disturbances).
      One or two people will start the 'culture', by committing a crime, that seems to satisfy their desires effectively (and is something that can do with relative ease)....(continued next comment)...

    • @crazyhai6554
      @crazyhai6554 6 лет назад +6

      ....@Jeffrey Koenig .....For example, school shooters usually have personality disorders. Most people with personality disorders, have excessive desires for control, power, revenge, etc. When certain life events heighten those desires even more than usual, things can get completely out of hand. They begin fantasising, about what would fulfil their powerful urges as effectively as possible.
      In recent decades, the average school shooter growing up, began to see more gun violence on TV, and in video games. I do think this would have provided a lot of opportunity (more than previous generations), for them to recognise how killing with en masse with guns, might be the 'ultimate' power kick.
      In countless ways, it provides the ultimate 'high' for certain people with certain personality disorders - it would fulfil their desire to have 'godlike power' (in their own heads), by choosing who lives, and who dies; it is the ultimate 'revenge' (taking someone's life); it's an opportunity to demonstrate they are the most 'powerful' person amongst their age group (in their own heads); getting international attention for this display of 'power', etc.
      Unfortunately, I do think your liberal gun laws, tipped the first shooters, into recognising how such a fantasy, could be turned into a reality. And so, some people start doing it, and it got widespread coverage. More and more people with similar disturbances, were then exposed to the idea of school shootings - and recognised how perfectly it would meet their desires, too. And so it begins to spiral. It becomes a culture-specific crime.

    This guy was a loner looking to attach himself to some group to feel like he belonged somewhere. This hoidy toidy community kept pushing him away and ridiculing him. He needed help, and was acting out for years trying to get it. Everyone in his community failed him. The FBI failed us all. Everyone contributeted to this event. And the compassionate left wants to use him to vilify the right, using this tragedy as political leverage. They are sick. They cannot be sincere I'm wanting to prevent these kinds of events if they always go to the gun control argument over everything else that can and would help. Let's start by making sure the current checks (policies and laws) are enforced and practiced. I can tell you that pushing for gun confiscation, their true end game, is going to get thousands of people killed, probably not just the men either.
    The right can do more too, but since the left and right are locking everything up, nothing gets done. So, go ahead and take sides, solidify yourself into the problem. The side I choose is the people, left and right, yes, I get attacked by both sides, but doesn't make them right. Do better people...

      Law enforcement didn't save anyone, the were there 30 minutes after the shooting ended. Maybe you can credit them for clean up, but considering they didn't get this kid help in the years leading up to this event, when he was acting out in an attempt to get help. They failed to do their job. This should have never happened.

    The guy obviously needed more mental care. From all the thing I heard, his mom died, he wasn't allowed in the 'freak' section at his school and posting gun pictures on his instagram. For me this is just a failure from the school. They just pushed him off the cliff. If he was expelled from the school, the school board should have paid more attention to his personal situation before expelling him. A normal guy just doesn't go shooting at people. This has to be something that got in his head and got a grip of him in time

      Once again the fact is raised that adults should not be in schools with children, if you have not graduated in the year of your 18th birthday, you go to adult education. Also, why wasn't this school protected, running all those drills and a person can just walk into a building with a loaded rifle? Where are the security cameras? I can see a small handgun being hidden, but a long gun. We need school security, like the school referenced in DC. Finally something is going to be done, it takes the president that so many hate to change things.

      Nhg0gupuf9uf B80y I definitely understand where u r coming from I personally do struggle with severe mental illness and hearing things that happened in his life, he didn't live a good life but I do think there is a certain point where someone has 2 reach out and get hospitalized so they don't hurt others bc this guy has 2 live with this 4 the rest of his life, some people have 2 live the rest of their life without their friend, child, sibling, niece, nephew, and 17 people missed out on the rest of their lives, was cut short when it shouldn't have been, that's future doctors, teachers, people who will change the world etc so I think there is a certain aspect of he should've done what he needed 2 so he didn't hurt anyone and I wish people would've actually done something bc he should've gotten help and maybe if he did 17 people would still b alive, people would have their friends, children, siblings etc so many people wouldn't b injured and even more traumatized and the shooter would have a chance at a life bc he doesn't now, he is at least partially responsible imo

    you know what I don't understand is why people who seem to be so concerned about their children say absolutely nothing about underage drinking which has killed more kids in the single state of FLA. then all the mass shootings combined in the entire country. Yet we see no public outcry to ban alcohol, or regulate it even, why is that? Anyone? Perhaps because the establishment doesn't want to ban alcohol perhaps because alcohol keeps people fighting amongst each other keeps people pacified so to speak.
