- Do you have a corrupt video file that needs to be recovered? Look no further! This method works MOST of the time and best of all it is COMPLETELY FREE! The average video file can be recovered in under 10 minutes and takes little technical knowledge to do. In this video, I do my best to show you exactly how to BRING BACK your "lost" memories in 10 simple-to-understand steps.

Download ffmpeg Tool (ffmpeg-3.4.1):

✅STEP 3:
Extract ffmpeg.zip, then extract recover_mp4.zip inside /ffmpeg/bin/ directory so that all the .exe files are in the same folder!
✅STEP 4:
Copy your "good.mp4" reference file
Copy your "bad.mp4" damaged file to be repaired
into SAME directory with .exe files as described in STEP 3
✅STEP 5:
Search - then type "CMD" (without quotes) -- then right-click on COMMAND PROMPT to RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR and confirm with YES
✅STEP 6:
Change your working directory inside COMMAND PROMPT to where your ffmpeg.exe and recover_mp4.exe and .mp4 video files are (see step 3) *Make sure to add the letters "cd" before you paste your directory.
✅STEP 7:
Copy/Execute the following command inside COMMAND PROMPT + press ENTER
recover_mp4.exe good.mp4 --analyze
✅STEP 8:
After analysis is completed, run proposed commands you receive from recover_mp4 tool, for example:
recover_mp4.exe bad.mp4 recovered.h264 recovered.aac
✅STEP 9:
Copy and Paste the second line such as:
ffmpeg.exe -r 30 -i recovered.h264 -i recovered.aac -bsf:a aac_adtstoasc -c:v copy -c:a copy recovered.mp4
(above are only example commands for step 9, they will be different for each video format - follow the instructions you receive from recover_mp4 tool!)
✅Step 10: OPEN RECOVERED VIDEO! (REMEMBER AUDIO WILL BE A SEPARATE FILE)
If the file isn't playable it might be because the file type is unsupported, the file extension is incorrect, or the file is corrupt in a way that ffmpeg is unable to decipher. Make sure you are using a reference file that is using the same format as the corrupted video.

Hello, please I need help I just watched the video, but the problem is the file don't have anyone that is playing. I literally copied them to a drive after recording and they all couldn't play, please any advice on what I can do?
@@spechez212hello, do the files have data? If so what device did you record with? The device has to be capable of making videos that do work at some point.

I had just finished recording a two-hour project when my PC crashed literally as I was moving the mouse to stop the recording. I legit cried over my lost work until I pulled myself together and found this amazingly helpful guide. I followed your steps and it didn't quite work the first time so I actually had to learn how to use the program options but I was able to recover my entire video. It's a little shaky here and there but it is significantly better than redoing my entire project just to record again. Thank you so, so much! I've also learned my lesson to not record in MP4 format anymore... 😒

When I try using the afterdawn link in the description that you gave as step 1, the recover_mp4 is downloading as a .exe file and not as a WinRAR file, what is going on?

What a fantastic and detailed video. I had a ten minute video which was not all that important which had not been finalised. It wasn't worth spending money on but as a senior citizen time is free. I worked my way through it, with a few spelling and syntax errors but recovered the video many thanks for your time and effort. BTW, your hair looked like mine did before my wife gave me a "lockdown haircut". Went from lots to about a quarter of an inch.
This didnt work for me when i put in the last command. It said things like missing picture in access unit with size 56, no frame, could not find codec parameters for stream 0, format aac detected only with low score of 1, misdetection possible, and more

Try to change it adding parameter --avcidrmax 2CE107 and/or --avcxmax E6619 they said this to me and the step after said what ou said ... no frame blabla .. only got a video like paranoma .. a photo each 2 min ... something like that

Does the reference file need to be the same exact length? I got an imperfect recovery: the audio only plays for the first few seconds and the sound is all wrong, so it's very slowed down, and the video file "works" but it keeps speeding up and then slowing down.
The original recording was at a constant bit rate so I'm not sure why it got confused in this way. The file is long (almost 3 hours) and large (5.56 GB), is that the issue? Does the reference need to be the exact same length?

Usually the sound file does output separately with this process. Did you check all files?
FFmpeg download that your video shows in step 2, does not match with the files available through the link. Says download Source code. I am not sure how to proceed with that file. After downloading there's no app on my computer to open the source code. Please help, I am quite hopeful after watching this video.

Thank you :) I turn my Engine off when saving a dash cam clip and it ended up corrupted, I done what you have said but the clip is glitchy and laggy, is there a way to get the clip back where it’s not laggy and it’s a .MOV
Out of about 40 videos/photos I took with the GoPro Hero 9 during a vacation, one video file seems to be giving me an issue.
I was able to view it 1 time after the initial recording & was able to see the thumbnail/time duration & playback
directly on the camera; After that, It would only work using the GoPro app on my phone even though it showed 0:00.
It now says "Unable To View" on the camera gallery & after attempting to download the file to a computer the file shows its 3.07 GB but it will not play anymore, not even on the app now. I tried the recovery method from this tutorial but no luck. Any other suggestions?
I'm not an expert, but it seems that your case is different, it sounds more like a broken SD card, I think this case is for files that were not properly saved at termination.
Which means the beginning and middle of the video is ok, it is just the finishing that is not good, so it can read the entire file and cut the bad ending.
In your case, it looks like the file got corrupted in other ways since it was working properly in the beginning, so I recommend you to not use that SD again or properly format it and check for errors.
But about the file I honestly don't know how to help you, In the past I had corrupted files like that, that I was able to open them with VLC, but not other players, and they had skipped frames but VLC player was still able to read it.
So I used to open with VLC and then use, if I'm not mistaken, save as, and make it a different format. Ex: If the file was AVI I would make, save as mpg2 and it would make a new file. But with the broken frames.
Give it a try if you didn't do that yet. Try open with VLC player and see if it works at all there.

Step 7 just keeps telling me in Command Prompt that "is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
What's the dealio? ? I followed every step, but to no avail. Only I couldn't change the directory, because C: is the only directory I have, since I only have one M.2 drive.

"C:" is not a directory; that's a drive. Did you copy/paste the directory path from the Explorer window as shown? (Step 6)
When I do the command to recover it, it says Invalid data found when processing input

I recovered over an hour of footage but the audio is somewhat distorted and laggy is it cause of how big it is or did I mess something up?
I performed the operation as described on a damaged mp4 recording. (Recorder failed near the end of a recording leaving the mp4 file unplayable.)
The video was restored. However the audio track appears to be missing. Is there something else that has to be done?

Hi. I have a problem.. My SD card was overwritten when the card was used in a cctv-camera.. I got the files recovered with Wondershare software, but all the files were corrupted (blurry pixelated video and cut off sound)... the problem is that the "good" video I have from the camcorder is in .mod - format..but the restored files is now in .mpg... does this work with .mpg ? When I try, it seems that the tool you are showing wants me to have a .mp4-file? What do I do? Thanks for your help!

Hey so, C:\Windows\System32> keeps showing not just C: where the original bin was made. I opened up the D: and that worked so I copied the same folder and dropped it in my D: storage. After pasting recover_mp4.exe bad.mp4 recovered.h264 recovered.aac to D:\> I got a message saying "This app can't run on your PC. To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher." I really need help please, what am I doing wrong?

If you use .flv the file won't be corrupted if there's a crash, and you can convert it to a .mp4 if you need that specific file.

If it's already in C:, there's no need to do the A; stuff he did in the video. just put "cd *insert folder location*" and you should be good.
I had the same problem and i just change it to my external hardrive and it works... of course i change the "C:" to "E:"

I cannot thank you enough for your thorough explanation and coverage on this recovery -- I thought for SURE I had lost my screen recording of my artwork -- almost 2 hours of footage -- due to an unprecedented computer crash. i do not have the (bin folder). i downloaded it and it shows alot of different folders that i dont see in the video i went back and fond the one he downloads to but it still shows alot of folders that he doesnt it does not also have the bin folder what should i do???
I was extremely happy to see my mp4 actually give me a video, however was quickly a bit saddened to see my videos speed constantly fluctuate. It's constantly speeding up and slowing down, and the audio is completely broken too.
I might still find a use for the footage as is but If anyone here knows how to fix this problem, please tell me. (I believe the source of the problem might be because I record in variable bitrate).

Pim I actually managed to get my mp4 fully recovered with all 3 audio streams by using the alternative paid method (in description). Sadly enough though it’s not really worth the price as I paid 20 dollars for about 20 minutes of footage.

I tried several method and this is the only one that got me close. I tried VLC and the 'doubling the length, then use grauonline.de' method. VLC didn't even play the video while grauonline turned the 30min video in to 9 seconds with horrible audio.
I pretty much given up hope. Wondershare's Video recovering worked flawlessly, at least the 30 second preview. I was tempted to buy it but I'm not a youtuber and have no intention of using the program actively so it felt like a expensive waste. Especially since the video isn't important and can be re-filmed if absolutely necessary.
The video I'm trying to recover can do without sound, and the speed can be fixed in editing, so I don't mind. But there seem to be a visual glitch in replaying right at the middle which doomed the video.
I decided to run it on VLC and hope to play the broken-but-less-so-video on a famously can-play-anything video player.
And that helped a lot. The player didn't freeze up and played just fine, albeit sometimes fast forwarded and no audio for 60% of the video, all of which I'm willing to accept. I am desperate enough to recover something usable. Re-filming would more effort than I would like, but the content itself isn't worth paying some 30-50 bucks(depending on subscription length) for recovery.
Anyone else getting a blank result.mp4 file, a result.264 file and a result.aac file?
result.264 works if I rename to a .mp4 file but then it has no audio and I don't know how to attach the result.aac to add the audio.

any suggestion on being only able to recover 26% of the original corrupted file? It doesn't look like you answer many questions here, but on a chance you may, I'll ask anyway. Super helpful so far with a little trouble in step 6 like a lot of people. The addition of cd (change destination) was not real clear in the video and this of course was key. Help me and I'll help you. I have a decently sized audience and us video creators need this kind of information as it is bound to happen sooner or later. Thank you for considering.
I've even tried the newer downloads you have listed in the description and I still get the same result. The original file is about 2.5 hours and almost 4G, and I was able to recover about 1G and about 25 minutes

Thanks heap for this. I was on holiday and did a massive first for me and dived with sharks. Had the entire 30 minute file corrupt. Because of this I was able to get most of it back. This is a process I will keep forever.

Don't know if people will see this, but when I get to the last step it doesn't seem to work. First it says the command doesn't work, and then it gives me a result, but the video and audio is split. If anyone sees this do you have any ways to help?
hi. can you help me, as I've stucked at step 7. I've entered recover_mp4 and then rest of command... and instead of getting video analysed, i get list of functions and 3 steps with descriptions... additionally i can only run as administrator windows power shell, when type cmd in there is no option to open it as admin. Any ideas how to get through this?

Could you please tell me a way to play the videos which are recovered by recuva. They show size like 150mb but when I play in vlc or windows media player they don't play. Can this be fixed in VLC.

Another thing I'd like to point out to noobs in technical work, is that if you are going to be using command-line, it's good to be able to "see" the extensions of the files you are working with. For PC, open any folder, select Tools, select tab View, deselect "Hide extensions for known file types". Windows 10, I believe it's in the toolbar of the folder, it's easy enough to google search how to "show extensions". It's always a good idea to be able to see the extensions. By default it's always turned off.

Does this work if a 2 hour recording through OBS shows up as 4 kb (4,600 bytes)? I think this file is heavily corrupted.
So I've tried multiple 'good' files that work just fine on the computer, but it fails to analyze them....
The files are from a blackvue 750S dashcam, I get the following when I try to do the step 7:

I sent some mp4 files to to my SD card and after some days, some of them started freezing after a few minutes of watching them. I tried the mp4 recovery steps for one of the files but it only recovered about 41% of it and when I played the recovered 41% file, it brought the corrupt/wrong file extension error. What can I do to solve the issue?

When I try step 7, it says "cannot open Good.mp4". Any suggestions? Also, it might be worth noting that I'm trying to convert a MOV file rather than a mp4 file. Does that matter? Thank you for your time!

Every time I try to put the corrupted video in the bin(or into any other file) its just says "F:/ is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and try again. If the location still cant be found, it might have been moved or deleted." and now I don't know what to do
Doesn't have a bin folder in ffmeg snapshot.tar.bz2... I got stuck at step2. Please help!!
Google ffmpeg-3.4.1-win64. I found it in site called videohelp . com in a big list. after that I followed tutorial till the end and it worked out.

This error shows to my cmd: 'ffmpeg.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
So 2 years ago I downloaded some videos from someones instagramstorys but i deleted it later, i wanted them back so I recovered them from my sd card ... unfortunately they are all corrupted :( I tried to use the method of this video and everything worked ( I used another video from my own device as goodfile) but when I opened the result there wasn't much :P only some weird colours and a sound or something? Is there anything I can do to recover my corrupted videofiles without having a goodfile from the same camera? :(
Recover_MP4 is no longer a .rar or .zip file. It is now an executable and Malware Antimalware Bytes quarantined the file as malware.
