I listened to this with my wife as we drive back from Sonoma Coast to Sacramento area with our dogs to escape the heat. We appreciate your comments and insights so much. Always learn something. It is scary to think about your comments in the last Office Hours re what’s a heat wave going to look like in x years. Hearing that from a scientist like yourself should wake everyone up. Thank you.
Hi Dr. Swain and everyone, I check in with Watch Duty as well. Great resource! Also, I am deep watering trees and shrubs. For sure, heat waves like this aren't something to be happy about. Our area, NE Sacramento County usually gets its longer heat wave in August, a heat wave this intense in early July instead of August, that's concerning.
Thank you Dr. Swain for posting on youtube. After finally leaving Twitter, it is good to see you here!
Glad to hear the clean explanation of the mugginess and high heat index.
The coolest summer (on average) for the rest of the time for our species...
I almost exactly experienced the upper level high heat index yesterday on my ride up into the East Bay hills. Temperatures at the top of the ridge were in the 90’s and actually in the upper 70’s at the bottom of the hill. It seemed like a stratified layer of warm air on top of cool moist ocean air, but the bottom layer was very thin. The incoming fog only made it about half way across the bay by late afternoon. There were breezes up at the top but they were warm. The boundary layer between the two air masses was pretty sharp.
hot here in humboldt! thinking of yall in the central valley
Thank you for another video post!
New fire up here in El Dorado County near Placerville with evacuations.
thanks doc!
Is this heatwave more a Central/Northern Ca heatwave - than Southern Ca --- Am not seeing killer highs or lows in Redlands Ca -- why is this ---- marine layer - monsoon surge . Not looking like July 2006 or 2018 heat waves
