Once the galvanic corrosion depletes the threads on that check valve, you will have a 100+ psi bullet with a HUGE potential to kill someone. Imagine sitting down on the ground to drain the water when it flies off into your eye. Given there is no rifling, no containment, that screws shape, and the pressure exerted on it, the potential for it to tumble is high. So it enters your eye, and hits your brain. Caskets are more expensive than proper air compressor parts. Engineering your own parts is one thing, but not when it comes to pressurized loads. Most people do not realize that little things such as using dissimilar metals can cause catastrophic accidents. Do not solder -- braze it. Do not weld the tank unless you are a professional welder. Fill the tank with water, drain, then dry; Don't weld a tank full of water. Match the maximum working pressure (derate it by at least 20%) of the tubing (look it up from the manufacturer given the diameter) to the check valve you intend to use.

Well done, very nice and great finished look. For next build, you do not need a oil drain plug in the bottom of the compressor. All the oil in the compressor ends up in the bottom of the air tank, so you need plug there. To add new oil to the compressor, just dip the inlet tube on the compressor in a cup of oil and it will suck it up happily :)

It’s amazing how much pressure one of those motors will produce. My dad made one with the motor out of an old freezer. He had a big tank and set the high limit to 300 psi. He set the pressure back down when he blew a low tire off the rim. He was lucky not to get hurt. 😀 They are slow to build pressure though.

Saludos..

Thanks for your video….yours was one of the first that caught
my attention and got me interested in this.
Since then I’ve made a number of these compressors for others (from used,
broken, craigslist, and dump-finds with Porter Cable, DeWALT, Craftsman, Campbell Hausfeld, Huskey, Bostich, and Central Pneumatic tanks (2 gal to 20 gal)). ALL working great (and none having experienced temp overloads filling from empty- which surprised me on those greater than 8 gal).
TWO OIL DRAIN-FILL QUESTIONS (answers will help not only me,but all others making these units)
    (1) With a refrigeration compressor with 1 pressure tube and
1 inlet tube (assume “without” any manufacturing installed crimped Freon fill
tube) I’m having trouble draining/filling oil (while tilting compressor towards
the inlet tube) due to "either", various bends in the inlet tube, OR due to no air escape route while draining. Any suggestions how to drain/fill with only 1 inlet tube
    (2) If there are no answers to (1) above, I assume a last
resort might be to drill a hole in the compressor and Braze a fitting into the
hole (that can be capped or plugged for drain/fill). Can this be done with a
Bernzomatic TS8000 torch using Mapp gas?
Issues are not knowing what's on the other side of where you're
drilling; getting chips into the compressor
while drilling; heat having some bad affect inside the compressor while
    BRAZING.
    Thanks.

Sir, meron akong napanuod dati sa RUclips din, to refill the oil after draining, put the compressor oil in small water bottle at the suction side of the unit, and quickly run the compressor,. Until the oil is filled thru suction pipe. If not enough, just refilled until normal level.

  • @asd49789

There is oil vapor heavily coming out of the compressor actually, so you need to separate it and lead it back to the third (sealed) pipe end coming out of the compressor, because that is where it has originally been filled with gas and oil. The oils they use in these compressors are mostly synthetic ones (e.g. polyolesther) and they cause irritation with skin and lung contact, so you should keep that in mind. Cheaper (like noname chinese) compressors have very thin, waterlike oil in them, expensive ones (like Danfoss) have thick and yellowish oil. I have just disassemled a few of these, and used one to make 4bar in a vessel, but I think it may also be suitable for painting compressor, however, you need to carefully lead back all the oil to the compressor.

    • @asd49789
      @asd49789 3 года назад

@@raymundsantos2324 It may be the case that the compressor halted in a situation when it was already so hot - because of the possible lack of lubrication at that point - that some metal parts just "melted" together. (Perhaps heated up so much that the metal material reached its recrystallization temperature that resulted in undesired changes in the shape of the actual metal part.. which caused it to stuck.) But you can try injecting compressor oil into the inlet and outlet, and try sparkling it to start.. :) However those are just ideas, I havent tried starting a stuck compressor yet
