Thanks for the shout-outs and very nice songs, Crystal. "Soaring" into a "Time to celebrate" indeed! Glad you're getting into some Bowie: His ingenious musical intricacies seem tailor - made for a perceptive critical intelligence like yours to analyze, pick apart and appreciate. His lyrics are often cryptic, at least to me, but they always SOUND brilliant, lol. His voice, of course, is an instrument unto itself. Or WAS, dammit. His INTERVIEWS are as spellbinding as many of his tunes. His raw intelligence and natural charisma are off the freaking charts! Plus his incredible good looks and effortless flashes of wit made him one of the most charming rock and rollers ever to draw breath. Or take ours away. He pioneered much in music, fashion, and culture. We shall not see his like again. He was one helluva human, seemingly supercool to everyone while he was among us. "Starman," indeed. I will leave you with a 2 minute clip of him hilariously imitating Mick Jagger, who you are also getting to know, during an interview. I wouldn't do it if I didn't know you and others would love it, lol! So: Enjoy! ruclips.net/video/N7-7HJCXx10/видео.html
brilliantly cryptic is the perfect way to describe the lyricism here! perfectly poetic if you think about it! oh the voice definitely cannot go without being praised! I was captivated from the first note sung! wow! you worded that so beautifully! with each breath he took, he also took away ours! You absolutely sold me on him- I must check out his interview! Thank you for sharing so much about him to me- I feel we have landed in the right place with his material! I appreciate you so very much my friend 🤍🖤✨
@@CrystalMarieShannon Heh, right on. He really was something else. And he made a LOT of albums, so some were, well, weaker. I barely know half his stuff, but I'd rec. looking for consensus in comments or reddit, etc on his best albums before choosing another, so you don't get a "dud." Having said that, "Ziggy," "Low," "Station to Station," "Heroes," Let's Dance" (controversial maybe bc it's "Poppy" and not as experimental, lol), "Diamond Dogs," and I'll end with "Scary Monsters" are regularly included in his Top Work.
Glad to be hearing some Bowie on your channel. Bowie was born David Jones, but when he started his career there was already a famous Davy Jones (of the Monkees) so he went with a new name. Thanks for this one, I enjoyed it!
He labelled himself as Tom Jones which I believe only lasted 2 weeks before the Welsh singer we know as Tom Jones came onto the scene with "It's not unusual", which then forced David to change his name for a 3rd time as David Bowie. Bowie really came out with some incredibly impactful and creative songs spanning 6 decades (I think?). On the year of his death, he was awarded the Icon award at the Brits.
I'm happy to see you've made it to the Bowie wormhole. 😉Lots of iconic "Gltter Rock" lead guitar from Mick Ronson on this one, plus Bowie's oddball mix of Folk acoustic stylings coupled with vocals more influenced by musical hall and cabaret (like Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht) than Blues and R&B, for example (until he made a switch for the "Young Americans" album). Of the other important Bowie albums, you would probably appreciate the following: Hunky Dory, Aladdin Sane, Young Americans, Scary Monsters and Super Creeps, and Let's Dance. Of the 'avant-garde' albums, "Low" and "Lodger" are both great. "Heroes" is a mixed bag. Btw, I appreciate your astronomy updates! Unfortunately I now live in an area that provides few chances to see much of anything (too many clouds and too much light and other pollution). But finally seeing the aurora in deep salmon reds with green from Midnight Dome, Dawson City, Yukon was one of the highlights of my life.
That glitter rock is definitely iconic and is excellently brought to life by the lively electric guitar! I was not expecting the incorporation of the folk element! But the way everything blended together so seemlessly- it absolutely worked- to say the least! Thank you for providing some guidance on where to reach from next in our Bowie journey! I am also unable to actually witness any of these beautiful events due to light pollution! I am so glad you have the extraordinary memory of that experience! Hopefully, you can see one again on a trip at some point! ✨🧡🤍 Sending my love to you my fantastic friend!
I agree. Crystal should review "Hunky Dory" next. I believe that she, being a gifted musician, will really appreciate the brilliant song-writing of that album.
Probably my favorite album of Bowie's, and that is no easy choice, he has so many classic albums! Two other greats out of so many: Station To Station, Hunky Dory.
As brilliant as David Bowie was, half of the genius of this album is his amazing guitarist Mick Ronson. "The Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars" is very much a collaborative son-writing effort between David Bowie and Mick Ronson. Ronson arranged a lot of this music. The lyrics, however, are classic Bowie
David Bowie and Mick Ronson counter-balanced each other perfectly. While David brought a softer, more Folk Rock aspect, Mick Ronson balances that with a very macho, punchy, aggressive Hard Rock energy. Bowie was, dare I say, the female to Ronson's male. Of all Bowie's many brilliant collaborators, Ronson was probably his most fruitful. It's a shame their musical-relationship was so brief, or was ever reunited.
Lovely reaction! "...barren hollowness..." - you have a wonderful way with words and a real, instinctive feel for the music that's infective to watch. Bravo :)
Good morning Crystal 😊🔮 Stupendous reaction and analysis of of David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust😊👍 I gave one listen to side one last night before watching your reaction and analysis and after a second listing this morning I would have to say David Bowie is taking us on a intergalactic extraterrestrial journey of bombastic proportions and you have stated this also in your reaction and analysis. To rate this side, I don't have the technical ability in order to do that as compared to what. An 8.9 rating compared to what... I will leave that to your capable hands and enjoy the product. Here in the United States, we look at things so much differently than they do in England and in Europe. They draw on the experiences of centuries where we in the United States...we're not even 300 years old. In many ways this type of music is not that attractive in the United States or just relegated to mediums that are avant-garde or experimental. When the only medium with radio, this would be relegated to radio stations that were small power and on University campuses. This feels like a new age weekend retreat entering a portal to open are inner being imposing the question... What is the meaning of everything? Could it be that we are prudish here in the United States and not open to the characteristic dry wit and openness of human behavior? I would say the closest comparison in this country would be out in California where there is an openness of thought and Openness of the human experience.... Things to ponder. As we travel and have our feet firmly planted back here on Earth, I enjoyed all of the songs on side one and truly cannot pick a singular one to call my favorite. The message in each one is universal. Looking forward to your next selection. There indeed have been many recommendations and all are great and I know you will present one that we will truly enjoy. I'm writing this before watching the start of your Bowie journey. Since you've never heard Bowie before you MUST keep in mind that unlike other musical artists, he truly changed CONSTANTLY over the years. He described himself not as a chameleon (as many in the media did), but explained it simply that he had a very short attention span. Always getting excited by "the new sound" and resisting the urge to repeat himself. Even his singing was a wild range of styles...very british in the early Ziggy days with a high register...all the way to deep baritone in later years. Moving with him from decade to decade is what blows you away (IMO)...all the way to his dying goodbye album "Blackstar". I always told friends, "if you don't like a Bowie album...just try the next one...lol." Okay, now I'll watch your reaction...safe journey. :-)

Hey there Malc! I am so happy to see! Thank you for this feedback! I have been truly working hard in an attempt to up the quality (as well as the quantity) of these videos so I appreciate you letting me know. I tried a bit of a different approach to the audio recording and will continue to make the necessary changes to achieve the best possible solution! I appreciate you and am sending all my love. I hope your week is going beautifully. 🤍
