I'm a devoted fan since the seventies. Saw her many times, most memorably in 1980 at an open-air concert at the university where I was a grad student, when she captivated a hard-drinking and -toking crowd. She caught the spirit of the women's movement of the time with her singing and especially her virtuoso slide guitar--"Ain't gon' be your sugar mama no more!" Glad she kicked the liquor. An inspiration! She still looks, and sings, great!
One thing about Bonnie -- She truly loves and honors the great blues women and blues men who came before her and paved the way. I had the honor of meeting Sippie Wallace during her later years, and she was effusive in her love and praise for Bonnie, and how Bonnie helped her resurrect her career. I also had the privilege of speaking with the late Pops Staples, and he spoke with an admiration that bordered on disbelief as he told me how surprised he was when he discovered that on the shows they were going to do together, Bonnie was going to open the show for him. (She often did that when she featured an elder statesman or stateswoman on her tours -- she'd open, the one[s] she was showcasing would follow with his or her own set, and then Bonnie would join them for a final set together. She also worked closely with Ruth Brown in forming the Rhythm & Blues Foundation, dedicated to recouping lost (and stolen) royalties and payments for older-generation blues and R&B artists. Ms. Brown said that of all the people she worked with on that project, Bonnie was the most dedicated and sincere.
In the early 70s I went to a Bonnie Raitt concert at the outdoor amphitheater in Berkeley... one memory from that night was one of her backup band musicians, I will never forget and have seen / heard nothing like it since: a rock n roll tuba player ....incredible
Saw Bonnie in the Tufts gym in 1971, about 70 people there. Stood in front of the "stage", about 5 feet from her. Later that year, sat in my high school best friend's kitchen where he played guitar for me and sang "Nobody's Girl", not yet released, which he had writtern for Bonnie.
BONNIE RAITT! Is a National Treasure. I hope I can work with her soon. She is a force of Nature. And she lives her life with integrity, and has been willing to be arrested for those causes that she believes in. Bless her to the core.
Love her so much....I CANT STAND IT!!! A friend in Marin had a brother in her high school class. Wendy has the yearbook with pic of Bonnie in her cute sweater and boots. I was in the audience for Roadtested album close to where I was born in Oakland. Im still single girl.....and a pretty good Strat player. Been playn blues since 63. Ever hear a 56 strat thru a 64 Vibroverb with 15" JBL? ME GOTS! hit me up sweetie.
Always liked Bonnie's music. But, Nick of Time and the followup album are her greatest works, IMHO. I saw her live at the Fillmore in Denver, CO on her birthday in 2005 and again about a year or so later at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in CO. Both shows were great, but I liked the Fillmore show the best. We had table seats stage left of her and could see and hear everything.
Or Bonnie performing "liv." 😝 I had the pleasure of seeing her perform "lyve" in Phoenix several times in the 70s and early 80s. She was simply amazing, and still is. So glad she finally got some wider recognition. ❤🎉
Had the good fortune to see Bonnie perform with James Taylor in Lucca in the summer of 2004. Was in the piazza waiting to greet my brother and his family who were travelling from Moscow where they’d been living for three years. Noticed a poster of the upcoming show which was scheduled for the next evening. Serendipitous good fortune. Open air concert in the central piazza. Still have a tshirt of their summer tour across Europe, 2004. Great balladeers, ciascuni. A few gentle barbs about the republican nominee for the US presidency but all in good fun. Those lighter days of democratic debate a thing of the past…
Awful narrator, but have always loved Bonnie. I wore grooves in her records. Then bought the CDs. I’m so glad she was able to overcome her addiction and continue making music.
Hey,Look at Eric Johnson!Took him awhile to Finally Get Some World Wide Respect😮!Even though, not a Woman, and did not go what she, went through, personally, obviously!
Lead Belly was a legendary Blues and Folk Singer. Notable Songs: Goodnight Irene, Out on the western plains, On a monday, Midnight Special, In the Pines, among many others
I first saw bonnie on the old grey whistle test in april 1976 and have been a fan ever since funnily enough her late 86 album nine lives is a favourite even though she was obviously going through a bad time.
I was there too 👍. Blowing Away knocked me dead - & a fan ever since. My 2 daughters bought tickets to celebrate my 70th! We all 3 went to see her again in Birmingham, England a couple of years back.
My wife waited on her at a restaurant she worked at once. She said Raitt was very rude and dismissive, like a common worker was beneath her. I have zero respect for people like that.
I was lucky enough to see BR at a small venue in Phoenix oh so many years ago. She actually opened for John Prine. What a wonderful memory.
Celebrity Theater in the round, perhaps?
I think I saw that same tour in Chicago area, it was cool years later when John’s health was failing she and artists put on a great benefit concert
Great talent on guitar and as a vocalist. Always a great live show.
@@othgmark1 She was great as part of the background vocals for "Black and White Night "

saw her in Christchurch, New Zealand what a concert! Bought tears to my eyes!!
Saw her a couple of times in 1970 at the Main Point outside Philly. She taught me that women could play guitar too!
...but they can't write their name in the snow. Well...maybe 'Cher'...
Nick of time one of my favorite albums.

Not sure how much stock to put in the narration when the narrator doesn't know how to say, "Lead Belly"
Or Bonnie performing "liv." 😝

I got to see her a few years back..... she played great and her band SMOKED.
" Love has no Pride " is still a stunning song!
But have you heard Linda Ronstadt’s version? 😭😭
@@gingermac5 Yes, it's wonderful!
❤She was famous off and on and in music.
What about the popularity of Bonnie's single Let's Give 'Em Something To Talk About, by the late songwriter Shirley Eikhard?
