An extraordinary man who brought laughter, insight and wealth of heart to others. Heartbreaking that he suffered quietly, till it was much too late to hear it.

The calmest Robin I have watched in decades. I don't think many people know what happened to him. My understanding is that he developed an aggressive type of dementia that was literally devouring his mind. This man did not give up, his brain was drastically altered in a very short time - leading to his death. I don't judge suicides - we never know what people are suffering on the inside. But watching him here - he was not an unhappy man...

RadioFreeEurope1 and people like him are trolls. Their only reason for writing negative comments about someone as caring and talented as Robin Williams is to get a rise out of people. Don't waste your time replying to their bullshit comments, you're only giving them the attention that they crave. As the saying goes "Don't feed the trolls".
Robin Williams was a very talented and caring individual who suffered from a very serious mental disorder, as well as being a recovering drug addict and alcoholic. He performed for the troops over seas, at charity benefits, and donated money to many charitable organizations. He was a wonderful human being who will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to his family and friends, and as a fan of his work I will miss him terribly. Rest In Peace, Robin Williams. If there is a heaven, I'm sure you're keeping everyone up there in stitches with laughter.

I wrote this after the death of Robin Williams, August 2014.
I laughed so much I cried
I laughed so much I nearly died
    It was all too much
It was all too little too late
The demons that haunted you at night in bed
Was the emptiness in your head and not your soul
    All those years lost searching
For redemption from prying eyes not knowing
    That this clown
Was burdened by an unimaginable dark cloud
The loss of your dearest departed friend
Didn't mean it signaled the end
    But it did steal something
And left a remarkable gift so amazing and profound.
When on one hand it took, the other you received and gave
It was not enough to silence the millions of critics in your mind
Why didn't we spot you were running out of time?
I laughed at an Alien called Mork
    From a planet called Ork
    And how could deary me,
Forget Mrs Doubtfire, that wonderful Scottish nanny.
The Doctor you played in Good Will Hunting,
Gave a tiny clue to your depth of compassion and feeling.
But, alas the greatest character you played was the one we never truly knew.
    S.Miah

Jesus, this comment section is filled with bigots and idiots. Depression is something that attacks your mind from the inside, something that makes you feel completely isolated. It's basically indescribable to those who've never experienced it. Money or power don't make it easier either, so don't even imply that.

"We're gonna send her some books now" This line killed me, and it is the perfect example of Williams' greatness. Seemingly spur of the moment, but always somehow perfect and intelligent. He was never scared to just go for it.

Totally agree and many have these backwards christian beliefs where not once in the bible is suicide condemned(only occurrences), except in their own minds. He had a tough choice to make and had tried to battle it recently without help(real help) which must also be hard as a celebrity. I try as a "normal" person to get help and nobody will listen, doctors, specialists, or mental health professionals if you are reasonably intelligent, composed and rational. Even called a hotline a few times and they laughed because I was analyzing their poor techniques but I was really right at the edge and ready to go. Nobody takes depression and pain seriously until it is too late and calling for help is usually a busy signal or in my case too, people know you are smart so therefore they deny the fact that you can't figure out your issues because you can rationalize things so you must be fine and not in danger. That is scary. I think the same situation was happening with Robin and to tell you the truth it has given me strength in my choices. I commend the man for taking his destiny in his hands(maybe premature) before the worst could occur. Praises Dean.

If having 50 million dollars forbids you from being depressed, then there shouldn't be any happy people who live in trailers. Your logic is moronic. You don't know there's a solar system somewhere made entirely of chocolate or that there is an invisible fairy on everyone's shoulder.
The problem is that there is no evidence for any of it so only a fool would believe it.
To believe something without evidence is faith not fact.
So no matter what you think you know, doesn't make it true and until such evidence appears to prove it, I can pretty much say it doesn't exist. Prove me wrong and I`ll change my mind.

      @east5871 10 лет назад

I can name some very successful people who are at the top in their field and never set foot in a college. I can name people who went to the best colleges who shouldn't have been there...one of them got elected President and can't speak intelligently without a speech written by someone else scrolling on a TelePrompTer. I listen to you people denigrate and minimize collegiate accomplishments of decent and productive people simply because you disagree with their politics. I know people who were at the top of class graduating with honors who did not have a lick of sense. Williams was once at the top of his profession and was without a doubt at his best when he was in the throes of a raging drug addiction(s). So I say again, he may have been funny but he wasn't all that bright. Plus, at the end, he hung himself with his own belt. That is not the mark of a bright or extraordinary person. Troubled? Absolutely. Sad? Incredibly. Bright? Not so much. On his tombstone it could say "I was brilliant and extraordinary but I lacked the good sense to get help!"
