Hey Maya 👋🏽 I'm Stacy! I'm a U.S. citizen that applied to a graduate degree program at Malmö University with the goal of making Sweden my permanent home. Even at 45-years-old, I am not afraid to reinvent myself. Admission notification is not until March 21st, but I know (speaking it into the universe......the environment.....these here interwebs) that I will be accepted to move there this summer. @@AdvocateOfJamaica I hope you both received good news. I moved to Paris at the age of 40 to pursue my MBA and my Brazilian friend is pursuing her doctorate and is in her 60’s. Now I’m 43 debating another move. 😅 Kudos to you both for reinventing yourself. 💪
Maya as long as I've been a viewer since the NY days, I know you love learning and writing. I don't think you're giving yourself enough credit for your ability to excel academically. Not saying you need to jump into a doctoral program, but there's a wide range of programs from online ones to interdisciplinary. It's all about finding the right one for you and the right program mentor. And I know what you're thinking, "I'm a full-time mom + content creator, there's no way!" I used to work in the Marketing dept in a Caribbean university (love your island love btw). I interviewed people after they graduated for their social media pages. Almost without fail, every mother would say that they were able to finish the program because their child made them stronger / was their inspiration. The more you know! ❤
Yes I was thinking the same thing. You can do it Maya!

I don’t think it’s about not giving herself enough credit, it’s just what she said,”she knows what she wants.” I agree with you, she is always learning something and could definitely succeed academically…. However, her independent way of learning works better for her, when you go to college you need to follow a program it can be a little bit hard and even not necessary. Maya is someone that if she wants and is excited to learn more about skin care she will take a course (if she wants) or spend a lot of time googling info. During her search if she feels like she wants to know more about dry skin she will them focus on dry skin and find all the info about dry skin. The problem with college is that you can’t stop at the moment to learn more about dry skin since you need to move to a different topic and you need to spend your time wisely or you fail. I definitely wish I knew what I wanted so I could tell people to leave me alone 😂
Girl! Age is a limit we women put on yourself!! I am 45 and about to get my MBA and I will 100% be getting my DBA because I can and I will. If I had 4 thumbs to give. I relate to your experience on so many levels. I love your conviction in the Lord and how I see your faith strengthen. I remember first moving away, living in a village, going back home to Toronto and visiting a grocery store. Born and breed in T.O. I don't know why I reacted so strongly. I had to walk out of the grocery. Visually there was so much choice! where do I begin? Lovely you celebrated with your friends accomplishments. - very giving. It is also beautiful to feel connected and be with similar people to share and bond. I loved this video it resonated with me.
What a raw, honest and heartfelt video Maya. I’ve been contemplating moving to Europe (not sure which country) and I have been having so many doubts as an African American woman. I have found myself second guessing everything but I know that I have outgrown America and it no longer is serving me. Your video helped to encourage and remind me that you can still find community wherever you go and how your faith can also help comfort and guide you. Thank you.
You got me a bit emotional when you shared your connection with the sister from the Bahamas. I actually was born and raised there and it a rare thing to us Caribbean folks to explore places like these optionally. So on that note, I’m looking and really desire to explore new territories as such. Connecting with nature and experiencing the countryside that offers lush greenery, lakes and mountains. But I know diversity in these places would be limited when finding a place of belonging. So I am so appreciative to you Mya for sharing your ongoing life journey with us all these years. I know some of us are living vicariously through the lens of how life would be like if we were in your shoes, but at the same time you’re braved through it all victoriously even through hard times. We appreciate you, I appreciate you over the years. Love and blessings.
I just graduated with my M.S. in Psychology. I'm 45. I plan to take this school year off to spend extra time with my 3 kids and hubs. Then we'll be moving to wherever I get my doctorate in Theology. I said the same thing, Maya. Might I suggest you take one semester at a community college or a smaller college, and if you don't like it, you'll know. I surprisingly loved learning at my older age. I'm purposeful, and that makes a difference with patience and engagement.
My sister was born in Barbados and moved to Sweden when she was young. I’m coming to visit in February for the first time from Toronto for my nieces graduation. I’m excited! Hopefully I enjoy myself 😊
Love this video! I have coming to Sweden and learning the language for the past years with the plan to move there in the future - I am Brazilia, living in Hungary for the pst 8 years - so thank you for sharing such an honest video, very refreshing!
Maya, the graduation looked great! Brought up so many wonderful memories of my youngest daughter a scientist who received her PhD in 2014! Thanks for sharing! Blessed Sunday!
Absolutely love how you appreciate and honor your friend Maya! Allow me to say, you too as your ancestors wildest dreams. The life you've lived! From leaving and unhealthy marriage to running a creative media empire by yourself, traveling the world, finding healthy love, choosing to get married and have your baby at a time that felt right for you and now blooming in this new season of your life ... I don't think your ancestors could have ever imagined all you've gotten to do, managed and achieved. Thank you for sharing your friends with us and your life with us. It so healing to see black women living out a variety of dreams, supporting and loving each other in the process.
That city looks FABULOUS!!! The caribbean food looked delish!! I still love your life in the countryside. You have the best of both worlds. Also that large department store reminded me of Honest Eds in Toronto.🧡
Wow! Love the colors of their regalia & your support. Glad you have a sense of community there. I totally relate to this on so many levels as a Jamaican living in the US. Was the only Afro-Caribbean in my PhD program in Lousiana, then, the only black female professor at a university in Utah & then I moved to ATL & felt like I could blend in more. My research & writing is always about the Afro-Caribbean immigrant experience in some way. Feeling inside of & outside of a society simultaneously is such a destabilizing feeling sometimes but finding community & connecting more with family & culture is a MUST for survival. The only thing is I grew up uber religious, went through my atheist period after a major life event in my 20s, but now I'm more agnostic. 🤷🏾♀️

Maya! You're in my city! I adore Malmo - it's like nowhere else in Sweden. I go back and forth for work a lot, but am determined to live there for an extended period someday. And I'm an island girl from Barbados. xo
This was an amazing video, I loved every minute of it! Yeah sis, you should move closer to the city. Country life is alright but consider being around people. I know it's boring as all get out in that small town. Stay a min and then bounce but I loved everybody getting their degree and having an amazing time.
You just seem like a one of a kind personality. As in it does not seem like you subscribe to one identity or idea but many that make up who you are. Plus you are pretty, Well educated, Well spoken, Humble and well dressed. That and you are so polite to the people around you.
Here is a tip as a former MUA .. in a small container 🫙.. lol smaller .. take your foundation and your moisturizer and mix it., two drops 💧 of foundation and more of moisturizer.. then BAM .. beauty balm lol
Mya .you are Absolutely beautiful inside and out. We all have challenges. I live how you manage your whole life and balance it all while share aspects of it with us. God bless❤❤❤
Maya I enjoy how you are opening up and mentioning more about your relationship with Yahweh, That GOD vs science is a good outlook; "Science tries to help people understand GOD", well said done. I am a fully persuaded Child of GOD. I rarely trust science but I totally am taught by the Holy Ghost because I do street evangelism. The Father has you planted there on the countryside so the Holy Ghost can use you to educate the people whom you encounter about Him (Mark 16:15-16). I believe Yahweh's plan for me is living out the rest of my journey in a small community somewhere. Dont know where yet. I am also inspired and am planning to go back and finish my education. I'm 60. Congrats to all the graduates featuring your friend Crystal. That store is huge. That could be a separate vlog. Thanks for sharing.
Would you consider moving to the city you visited to give Saga the similar upbringing you had/exposure to diversity and live in the country side during the summer/breaks?
Congrats to her. I'm Grenadian Canadian and a Christian first. I also have a PhD with a great love and understanding of science but I can say that human wisdom and intelligence is limited. Godly wisdom is the key for living and surviving in this fallen world.
Hey Sis, I feel you on the overwhelmed part with going into a store to get some things, and feeling like we got to get everything we see. I ask Jesus to help me now. Help, me shop Lord and stay on budget.😂 Also, thank you for the prayer point of, Give me what I can handle. I'm using it now. Blessings
Hejsan Maya! Long time follower men first time commenting on this channel. Herregud I sooooo love this episode because I also live in a small harbor town in Sweden (I am from The States)! I typically visit Göteborg och Stockholm but a couple of weeks ago Joakim (my partner) and I visited Malmö we are thinking about relocating! Anyway I feel like we might be living in the same area because our distance from Malmö was 5 hours. And I am totally green with envy because of your trip to Ullared! Ok just wanted to say tjena! 😊
As an agnostic who is atheistic regarding abrahamic religions, I think your approach towards your religion is the healthy one. When religion puts you at odds with science that's when it becomes unhealthy and outright dangerous.
Aww. Congrats to her. I loove Dr Myles Munroe. He is a theological heavyweight together with Andy Stanley & TD Jakes. Thank you for sharing Sweden with us.
This >> "I believe science is the attempt to understand God." As a scientist & a Christian, I agree 💯 . It's my awe, respect for, and desire to be a good steward of creation (and a desire to ignite these sentiments in others) that led me to become a scientist in the first place. Congrats to your friend! 🎓🥂 And also to your gorgeous twists! lol

Love your beef with grandpa 😂. Older folks love telling us how to live our lives. Of course we know they mean well, but it's a lot to even begin explaining our alternative paths whew. Doesn't help when you look even younger than you are lol x
As a PhD (biochemistry) having scientist who loves and believes in Jesus. I wholeheartedly agree. Science and God absolutely coexist for me. Science reveals the awesomeness of God to me EVERYDAY! Big big congratulations to your friend!!! 🤗🤗🤗❤️

Maya! You're in my city! I adore Malmo - it's like nowhere else in Sweden. I go back and forth for work a lot, but am determined to live there for an extended period someday. And I'm an island girl from Barbados. xo
We need a haul to see what u purchased… glad you got to connect and felt good about your trip.
This seems like the perfect place for you and your family, Maya!!! You can have a second home on the countryside. The city suites you.
This video came at the right time for me, l am learning Italian and l have been in tears honey in tears.
I know that by the grace of God l will get it
I feel your struggle 🙏🏾✨ It is not easy learning a new language especially at an older age but we outchea doing the most!
That is a good tip!
You are such a wonderful friend. Congratulations to my home girl 🇧🇸🇧🇸🇧🇸🇧🇸🇧🇸
Mya .you are Absolutely beautiful inside and out.
We all have challenges.
I live how you manage your whole life and balance it all while share aspects of it with us.
God bless❤❤❤

Hi there! I’m a Blackman living in California! Keep Hope Alive! I lived in Toronto and Montreal too!
Love this Channel so far
Love you, Maya! Keep shining, Boo!
Your Swedish sounds great! you go girl!
Woow du är mycket duktig! You are doing well !!! I am also Swedish too 😅
You seem happy in this video. I hope you're truly open to moving were there's a little more diversity for you and your daughter sake eventually
I didn't want this to end! I'm actually researchiing flights to Malmo now!!!
Wow! Even without the grass and sun this video inspired you?! Where are you flying from?
"Saga does not need clothes" 🤣 I'm interested in seeing a haul Maya!! 😁
That’s such a good idea!
Not Grandpa Stanley telling you whatsup 😂You've killed it Maya and continue to do so, love you!! that lady buying all the chocolate in the store 😂😂
😂 your Trini switch up was great! My parents are from Guyana 🇬🇾 , so I’m Guyanese (American born) but I feel you.
Wait!! I was waiting to hear if you followed through with your budget 😂😂 the face at the end tells me otherwise tho 😂
Congrats to her. I'm Grenadian Canadian and a Christian first. I also have a PhD with a great love and understanding of science but I can say that human wisdom and intelligence is limited. Godly wisdom is the key for living and surviving in this fallen world.
I feel ya girl.. same vibe in Minnesota
Maya i truly enjoyed your honesty in this video. You touched on a topic that i was curious about....your acculturation into the Swedish culture.
Thank you! I’m glad you found insight 🙏🏾✨
Blessings
I managed to take a ton out of my shopping cart and keep it to essentials like undies, gloves...i'll share the deets on the next video :)
That hotel workout was inspiring! I need to get on it.
tjena tjena! tack för din kommentar! Jag tycker om din svenglish! 🤣🤣🤣 where do you live?
As an agnostic who is atheistic regarding abrahamic religions, I think your approach towards your religion is the healthy one.
When religion puts you at odds with science that's when it becomes unhealthy and outright dangerous.
I am also an atheist ...but I do have a heart .,,,those two can co-exist perfectly.
Trini 🇹🇹 mention 💜 😆 Love it.
Aww. Congrats to her. I loove Dr Myles Munroe. He is a theological heavyweight together with Andy Stanley & TD Jakes. Thank you for sharing Sweden with us.
Bahamas 🇧🇸 242 in the house!! A Bahamian in Sweden! Wow.
🎓🥂 And also to your gorgeous twists! lol
Amen🙌🏿🙌🏿
Moves to Sweden(Gothenburg) on a small Island called Brännö) 3 years ago but only half the year. Im from the US/California. Im 50 and learning Swedish is 😵💫😫. Also aint no Black people on this little Island and the stares and weird behavior of the White people here is exhaustive. I be so happy to go back to Los Angeles 🤘🏾👍🏾. This content so relatable. 🦋🌺🦋
Love your beef with grandpa 😂. Older folks love telling us how to live our lives. Of course we know they mean well, but it's a lot to even begin explaining our alternative paths whew. Doesn't help when you look even younger than you are lol x
Loved the Trini accent!!! …242 🇧🇸
Awesome for my sisters. So proud.
Bread, I love bread to much. That was the funniest shit ever😂
I love that the majority of the PhD graduates were black women! ❤❤❤
Im with you Maya, I cant imagine going back to school and having that discipline to study, etc. Ugh! No. Mad respect for your friend and crew.
Right? My brain just can't comprehend but I do like doing programs at my own pace online.
Maya! What camera are you using to shoot content?
I love “I believe that science is the attempt to understand God.” that’s exactly how I feel.
🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹 your Trini accent good 👍🏾.Great vlog as usual.
🤣🤣🤣 in knock-off Trini accent
Does Crystal has a YT channel? And where can we get more information in regards to higher education in Sweden?
Thanks in advance.
I loved this! 😊
Ahhhh you are an honorary Trini in our eyes babes!! 🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹
As a PhD (biochemistry) having scientist who loves and believes in Jesus. I wholeheartedly agree. Science and God absolutely coexist for me. Science reveals the awesomeness of God to me EVERYDAY!
Big big congratulations to your friend!!! 🤗🤗🤗❤️
💯
(any library in Sweden) Is it possible to acquire knowledge of economics, international politics and geography entirely in English in a Swedish library, or does this knowledge require knowledge of Sweden?
This is super dope 🙌🏽
All these years I sworeeeee Maya was half Trini 😮
Which camera are you documenting on? Looking for something small like that one lol
Bread is life (Cuban roots) LOL
