How To Set Grommets in Leather
We will show you the many ways on 1) how to set grommets and eyelets in leather, fabric, canvas, and more, as well as 2) how to determine the right grommet post size based on your material thickness.

How are grommets sized? By the hole diameter for the cordage, the hole for the grommet, or the very outer diameter of the grommet? I have a pair of Carolina workboots that I'd like to move the anchor points of where the laces pull from above the ankle. Carolina's lace-hooks are right at the edges of the leather and this causes the edges to curl under. From both the proximity and the fact that the laces are that much higher above the surface of the leather.
Also, when measuring the thickness, what are you getting in inches or mm that translates to the ounce equivalent? I'm a machinist, so measuring anything is easy. So is converting from inches to mm or vice-versa.
I also have interest in other leather working. I need to make some possibles bags for muzzleloader hunting. I just can't find what I want and need.
What sizes would be best for small items like pocket organizers or wallets?

Where can I get a variety size grommet setter
Thanks for asking. We do not sell a variety set, but what you may want to do is get the hand tool where you can screw in different size setter dies and then get just the dies for whatever sizes you need.

For most of us, when you tell us that the leather is 7 oz., that means nothing to us. We are not cutting to a certain size to weigh that piece of leather, to determine how many ounces. What we need to know is, How Thick Is It?
1oz is the equivalent of 1/64". So 7oz is 7/64, or just under 1/8" thick. Nobody sells leather by inches or millimeters, it's all by oz. Kind of like sewing machine thread
After some experience, you'll be able to tell the oz pretty close just by looking at a hide
