  • The Mask and the Mirror is a series of conversations with artists and occulturists exploring inspired creativity, extraordinary encounters and intuitive ways of knowing. Following my first interview with legendary author Alan Moore, talismanic jeweller, sacred artist and ''dirt sorcerer'' Aidan Wachter is 'the Aeon'' in our ''Arcana Sessions'' (inspired by the Fool's symbolic journey through the tarot's major arcana). Join our discussion on weaving fate, changing the past, telling true lies, time travel, hypersigils and everything in between :)

This was gold! Just as inspiring as the Alan Moore interview. Thanks for putting out positive transmissions at a time when we're all drowning in disempowering information... sorely needed and much appreciated! :-P

Thank you so much! My reply to @Matt Tomonto above applies here as well -so glad to hear this is actually needed! Sometimes I look around (especially now, with the emergence of the new fascism masked as liberalism called ''cancel culture'') and I think to myself ''why bother''. But then I read your responses and remember our ''tribe'' is still out there too, maybe like a scattered pack of wolves howling at each other from a distance, but who says that the pack can't be reunited one day? Those that have scattered us can't have the last, or the only, word! So I will just keep being dissonant in the choral of Borgs( ''we've come to assimilate you, resistance is futile''...) and if this inspires any more people to not join that tune/ feel less alone, then I'm happy/useful, be it 10 people or 10000 :)

@@themaskandthemirror777 Thanks for the considered reply :-) Couldn't agree more with your comments! It's reassuring to know there are like-minded people out there who feel similarly disaffected at the moment... Techno-utopian dreams of the internet dissolving boundaries and uniting us all have delivered only an ersatz unity. 'The assimilated' are leading increasingly atomised, surveilled existences in a virtual panopticon, which rewards groupthink and punishes those who fail to think/speak in the ratified way. As connectivity increases, the consensus view becomes stifling orthodoxy with ever-greater rapidity... 'Orthodoxy is unconsciousness', as Orwell wrote. It makes unique, conscious transmissions such as yours all the more inspiring & important! So I hope you keep doing what you're doing. Good luck, looking forward to the next one! :-P

Thank you for writing this! There is so much pressure for newspeak -like, telegraphic content everywhere, it often feels there is no space for anything else, and that ''people'' don't actually even need it anymore, what they need is more products, influencers etc...So it can be hard to continue ''transmitting'' . You might choose to be an antenna, but is there a receiver? Words like this always remind me that there is someone on the ''other side'', and we are never alone in our beliefs or needs. Those above always maintain themselves at the top of the ''food chain'' by convincing those ''below'' that they are alone, irrelevant and powerless...It's how it's always been. The greatest strength and genius of the current system is that it has figured out how to keep us in the greatest isolation possible by cultivating an illusion of connectivity through avatars and popularity contests in the form of likes etc. It's like you're stuck in a world of high school jocks and bullies who never graduated...A world that feels ''safe'' and unfortunately many never wanted to leave in the first place...And indeed, we're powerless in this world...without each other.

@@themaskandthemirror777 Absolutely. The Others that Aidan talks about have a specific meaning in his work, but I find it’s helpful to extend this kind of careful listening to all kinds of communication. As we gather (or are herded-both are probably true) into new groups and categories and platforms and media, I think about how these collective structures begin to resemble something like the Others he describes. Pieces and patterns of whispering messages comprised (remixed?) like fluidly hybrid mythological creatures. Half-beehive, half-lightning river-visible only through a particular wavelength of time-but very much speaking. Something like how the character of a radio station is the sound flowing through it, a stream of mixing messages from across recent moments in recorded cultural memory. We’ll likely be ourselves mixing metaphors to futilely describe these new scales and forms of communication for a while longer. And yet, as much garbage exists to algorithmically sift through in a place like RUclips, there are truly magical and profound digitizations of time past-many wise words salvaged from the gradual decay of demagnetizing tape-decontextualized but preserved, not unlike a museum. We’re becoming ourselves creatures of hybrid time, which requires also, for sanity’s sake, to reimagine what the present moment is and how and when we have meaningful conversations, over what length, with whom. And that’s an exciting and worthwhile practice to embrace in our melting world.

Another top drawer contribution. The Black Book - art as magic and magic as art. This way of being is liberating, naturally playful and it works. And as Terence McKenna said, "Culture is not your friend."

Thanks a mil Jenny! A very special lady is coming next this month, whose voice and music are pure magic :) The Norwegian metal queen, Liv Kristine Espeneaes, whose music I grew up listening to. I'm sure you will love her if you haven't heard of her already. So glad you love these longer, more in-depth conversations. It's not the typical RUclips content so it means a lot to know that it resonates with you!

These interviews are treasure. Thank you :)
    About "time travel".
There are conversations only just beginning to percolate as regards a synthesis between psychic gifts and magical talents - both are exponentially entangled with each other in ways that are so very, very wide open.
And yes. One of the most sci-fi aspects is the "resource" of "time/space".
That is, the direct and radical experiences with psychic connectivity spells it out almost elementary that ( on a spectrum as regards these gifts and talents ) neither distance or time are conditions that prevent these energetic exchanges.
I also loved the talk concerning cultural artifacts as narrative contagions.
    Conversations like these are important.

This talk and the one with Alan Moore were SO inspiring, thank you so much! So many new people and their books to dig into. And I find you yourself and what you have to share equally fascinating. Just because you decided to share this sentiment I also want to share, that I have felt out of place living in Germany all my life since I am so in love with English and American literature. I think and write in that beautiful language and it has become pretty difficult to find people who feel the same way around here. So I'm curious, what was it like to make that jump to the UK and how exactly did you do it? Thanks again for creating these podcasts, I had an amazing time listening to those while driving!

Thanks for sharing and sorry for taking me ages to reply to you. I only log in whenever I have a new video to share -as a rule I abstain from the online world and relevant exposure, plus recent years have been challenging for me especially in terms of health and energy levels. To answer your quetion, I came to the UK for my postgraduate studies about ten years ago and subsequently decided to settle here for personal and professional reasons. I explain some of my motives/ frustrations with my own country in my most recent video with Carl Abrahamsson. I define myself as Luciferian (my own brand of Luciferianism, not following any gurus/organisations) and there is no space, understanding, or tolerance for that or any of my other beliefs and practices in my country of origin. Which is both ironic and tragic for the country that gave birth to Prometheus...I couldn't find my tribe in Greece. I found it in the UK after long an Odyssey. Thanks for supporting this channel, reaching out, and most of all, for listening to it while driving -cars are liminal spaces...x

@@marczwander893 Living in the UK is excruciating financially (something that can affect one's very livelihood, ability to pay rent and bills, and therefore creativity very negatively. It's an extremely capitalist country with everything this entails. It's been a lot harder for us foreigners to continue to be here post Brexit, for a plethora of reasons. However, in terms of the occult and alternative community, yes, it's a great place to be, more so than elsewhere in Europe and probably the world.
Best of luck with it -but be prepared for a culture shock if you do end up entering the workforce here. Expect downgrades, having to fight for your rights as a worker twice as hard as you would in other countries (for example Austria or Scandinavia or Greece for that matter, which is strong in terms of worker solidarity), a culture that favours business vs the rights of the employees, and a working class that is disempowered, afraid and often has a slave mentality. Also, the dog eats dog mentality reigns supreme, and gods help you if you dare to look, sound and think different and not participate in so called ''happy hour'' and ''office culture.'' If you choose to reject all that, then be prepared to struggle a lot financially.... It's essential that you have people who have your back if do you move to this country.
I am not one to preach false paradises. I chose to remain here for love and a sense of community I never had elsewhere. If I hadn't found these, would I still be here? Absolutely not. Scandinavia, for instance, where ironically I would have been had I followed my original instinct (I wanted to pursue Film Studies focusing on Ingmar Bergman but this was fiercely opposed by my family as even more impractical than my Literary Studies) has a better quality of life overall and a more humane, socialist approach. You have to carefully weigh the pros and cons and no matter where you are, remember that the face a country shows to tourists and visitors is not the same you encounter when you actually settle in it.

@@themaskandthemirror777 Thank you for the sweet response again! I have been going through similar stuff I think, standing up for myself and all. Its a difficult thing to do but its up to us how we want to live in the end.
Currently I lack the community but have at at least an acceptable part time job that lets me work on my writing and game-dev projects on the side and I'm very thankful for that even though I am planning to move again/switch things up this year - no definite plans yet 😅
Thank you for mentioning Ingmar Bergman, I'm gona check him out, seems very interesting! I tend to have very strong opinions and definite idols, too (David Lynch, Kentaro Miura, Lovecraft) so I understand you completely wanting to pursue similar things. In the back of my mind I also think the only thing for me to study would be philosophy but at this point I think researching on my own is much more efficient.
Thank you for everything you do, I appreciate your work very much, take care
