Hi Davie, Thanks for sharing this variation for your Grannum pattern, nicely tyed with Seals Fur dubbing to represent the green egg sac. This D H Fly certainly earned its place in your Fly box catching a beautiful Brown Trout, Best regards, Wayne 😀👍

This is a cracking fly. Tied a few to take to a days guided fishing on the rivers around Rhayader. It had 12 fish to the net and another 6 lost (due to my incompetence!). Tying more now. One fly lasted most of the day - only retired due to over abuse by the fish 😀

Great that you added the fishing clip, catching a good size brownie on this Dynamite Harry style Grannom fly. It is a good combo to
see a particular fly in action, being productive, and in seeing you tie that pattern. Thank you Davie.

The fly you showed at the beginning had something in its eye. Thought it was glue. Then I realized it was line from yesterday. Really cool to see a fly that was fished and then the watch the tutorial.

Oh what a wonderful caddis pattern! The grannoms hatch here in Europe (Ardennes area) too, I will definitely try these in place of the usual deer hair ties.

I like dynamite Harry style. But without the parachute type hackle.I prefer just wrapping some hackle either side of the post. Then trimming the underside of the hackle .I fish the river Ayr.Never fished the Doon. Some lovely trout you are catching from the Doon recently.

Very nice caddis pattern Davey. It’s reminiscent of the Bloom Caddis which I used successfully in upstate NY on the famed Beaverkill. This particular pattern would work very well in Montana on the Bighorn also. Thanks for bringing it to us and be well.

I tie something very near this, but instead of using the parapost I use CDC for the main wing. Seems to work very well, but only in sizes 16 and smaller...so basically its an elk hair caddis, but without the elk hair +)

I love this. I use the Fulling Mill CZ nymph hooks a lot these days. If only the'd make them in #20 and #22. The #18 is quite a big hook. The Dynamite Harry type tie is very adaptable - works with parachute and comparadun hackles.

They do it down to a size 20 now and I am like yourself I have now used it on a few patterns..I'm glad you liked the fly..

@@DavieMcPhail This quest for CZ in #20 ended up quite expensive, and left a bad taste in my mouth with Fulling Mill.
Dealers don't seem to stock the size 20, but Fulling Mill had them in stock, so I ordered direct. But, they're 50% more expensive if ordered direct from the makers. Best deal from a stockist £7.50 including postage, but my bill from Fulling Mill was £11.09.
I rang them to check if they'd made a mistake and was told they'd call back during the day. No call came in. Pretty unimpressive, I think.

Do you always catch and release? Or do you keep a couple for dinner?
I mostly catch and release, I do for the sport, relaxation, and de-stressor.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Год назад +1

      Hi John,
I do mostly catch and release now though I do like a trout so if I get offered one or two I will take one as I was brought up on wild trout when I was a young man..We do have a good fishmongersl so I visit it when I fancy a piece of haddock or mackerel..
      All the very best Davie..
