Action 5 is a nice evolution, definitely the one to get if you don't already have an Action 4. I have Pocket 3 for low light so I'm also happy keeping Action 4, and I'm not sure I would upgrade even without the Pocket, Action 4 is pretty sweet. Great video, covers everything necessary ! Oh and scuba divers and even some apnea divers do reach 20m depth or more, so the water resistance is definitely useful to some.
After watching multiple reviews between the Action 4 (which I own) and the Action 5. They are very similar in ways and not so similar in ways. How ever, it really comes down to what you plan to use the camera for and you just have to dial in your settings. Plus with the battery life DJI has given the Action 4 a firmware update to use the new battery’s to give the same recording time of the Action 5. All action cameras now are sold on hype. Thanks for the video.
I've seen a lot of reviews for DJI Action 4 vs DJI Action 5, and it seemed the Action 5 wasn't great even when those reviewers puffed it up as great. Friend... your review was great because now I could see the actual reason, for my case, the DJI Action 5 is better. Brighter LCD for the eyes, low light performance, and long battery life. Thanks! Can't afford it yet, so I'm sticking to the DJI Action 4 but for new users, fork out the extra 50$, I think it's worth it for sure.
Your videos are always great! I have come to trust you and your comments. The support for two mics without any additional adapters and low light improvements are enough for me to add this to my bag. Thank you as always! Wish DJI would add a remote so I can turn recording on and off without touching the camera would be nice when I have it mounted on handle bars etc.
Interesting and useful review thanks. In Australia (I am in New Zealand) the Action 4 is A$389 while the Action 5 is $639 - that is a BIG difference and makes the choice a little harder especially if you are not doing much low light shooting.
I just got the action 5 (I have a few videos on my channel, just preliminary footage.) In really good light (sunshine), SOOC, I slightly prefer my GoPro Hero 12. In EVERY other way, and in every other scenario, it’s amazing. The screen alone is worth the price. The user interface is amazing and the footage (when the correct settings are carefully and properly dialed in) almost rivals my pocket 3. I hope the firmware comes soon and makes it even better.
DJI is really good with the firmware updates, however, not sure if they ever change the colors. DJI does have color science down in their pro stuff, but may intentionally give a worse look for their consumer stuff.
Reasonable style of review, a lot of general knowledge provided, thanks for that. One point though, WB (light) sensors below the lens, in the letter 'O' of 'ACTION'. Since both cams are mounted in the frame utilizing a border, the WB sensors seem partially obstructed, eventually. They may even use that sensor for some additional measurements, who knows. If so , the test results might be a bit different, especially in low light? Other than that, please keep up the great work, thanks again.
I picked up action 4 adventure combo for £299. so great value there compared to action 5 which will be full price and with adventure combo retailing at £409
Hey Charlie, loved the review....but was a bit confused at 16:40, you stated the one on the left (Action 5) was the Action 4 and then soon after that you stated the screen size of the Action 4 and the lack of space was the screen size of the LCD (Which was the Action 4, not the Action 5). 😂...or maybe I just misunderstood you! Anyways, always appreciate your videos!
Hello, I have a 4 and a pocket 3. I'm considering a 3rd camera as being the 5 however there's a price drop and the 4 is $100.00 less. Now what do you think I should do, confusing 😮. Thx😊
I've learned to live with any shortcomings my OA3 has by now, there's nothing grabbing me here in both. I don't apply LUT or have to grade footage anyway and my camera out performs these images. ( For my needs ) Have a look... I love DJI and this is my second OA. I honestly fear that the AP2 will impress me away from the Osmo range as DJI got lazy. 😢
Hey, man! I need a piece of advice. I'm planning to record stand-up comedy shows (generally in dimly lit places), and the idea of having both the performer and the audience in the same shot sounds really awesome. That's why I had my eye on the Insta360 1-inch edition. But I want to know if it's possible and easy to extract two unique videos from the two cameras without using the 360 feature. Basically I'd need them playing at the same time where they are edited side-by-side so both the reaction of the audience and the stage/performer are visible at all times.
I think what you are referring to is explained in this video: ruclips.net/video/yEQITC51YYo/видео.html and you have to use the 360 video, but it's not as difficult as you think, extract as a flat 360 file, toss on editor, duplicate the footage and turn it 180 degrees, and presto, you've got two distinct video clips that line up perfectly. Quite simple and only requires one time extraction. Downside is that these devices are known to overheat, with poor battery life, and create very large files. if you can overcome these obstacles, it's certainly convenient grabbing multiple angles from a single 360 file.
very nice comparison... now I am pretty happy with my A4 lol.... what setting do you have for indoor mall walking with minimum light bulb jittering... thanks

Indeed, I would definitely get the 4 at those prices
Great comparison Charlie! Overall I see a lot more brightness in the 5 for sure, but still keeping the highlights in check though

In my opinion. If you already have Action 4. It’s not worth it to upgrade. But if you are from Action 3.. it’s s worth it.

oh yeah, misspoke 😅
What about 10 MP on Action 4 vs 40MP on the Action 5? Does that look different in post production?
17:43 You just have to turn "full screen" off in settings. (That mountain icon when you swipe down the menu)
