I had an R reg P6B, 3500 auto. I owned it for a while in the 80's. The only car I ever had that brought a tear to my eye when I had to sell it.

I really shouldn't watch these "old Rover P6 - will it run?" videos. As the ex-owner of a beautiful 1971 P6B, it breaks my heart to see how neglected and abused some of these cars have become. I haven't owned that car for many years now, but I still remember how smooth and comfortable it was to drive. It was one of those cars that made you feel really great to be seen driving in it, because its styling was so individual, if not to say beautiful. I'd put it up there with the Citroen DS and Mk II Jag as one of the iconic designs of all time.

They had a solid frame with every panel bolted on thus easily replaced.Didnt like servicing the inboard rear brakes though!

It's good to see someone is making videos of these classic cars before they are all gone and forgotten. keep it going Aron. Nice to see David-Yoda today thinking about getting to the pub for a pint. Looking forward to Mum and Lucas-Winston back again to make up the team

I bought a brand new 3500S manual with denovo tyres,(a load of crap that were noisy and worn out at 2000 miles)for £1850 from Hollindrakes Stockport around 1974.I sold it for £2600 in 1976 due to hi inflation.

Seeing the grille (& I'm not doubting the year you've put. You know best) this would be a 1970 "J". A 1971 "J" would be a P6B with the plastic grille.

    Hi Sheldon,
So, after our live chat re: the Rover P6’s near where I live in Fife, Scotland which has disappeared as it was live chat I’m guessing, I did some research. It’s showing as a 2000 sc with 19000 miles on the clock! I could only see one when I passed today but there might be more and I also spied what looked like an Austin Cambridge and a Rover Sterling (not classic enough that one I guess).
Imagine if that really only has 19,000 miles on the clock eh? What a find that could be!

I thought I saw this in its natural habitat (a petrol station) today, but the one I saw had been blown over, had hubcaps and multi dial dash, not strip speedo which I thought was odd for a series 1

It's not difficult to get one of these running, as long as the motor turns, and has not suffered corrosion damage.
What is FAR more difficult is the weeks of welding, and the need to make many of the repair sections.
Why not some videos showing what's entailed, and ideally a few featuring fully restored cars, with some input from the restorers, with their views on whether this work is something that should be attempted, by anyone who might not be a very good welder, with a well-equipped workshop?
