The festool Kapex that I am using needs some fine tuning to get the mitres perfect, this is a quick how to get perfect miters
*I was able to use the stop to cut my pieces all the same **MyBest.Tools** Only let the blade come to a complete stop before lifting it back up otherwise it might 'catch' the work and inadvertently move the stop. Used a second clamp for holding.*

Thanks Robin. I searched RUclips for this with no joy apart from Michael’s FESTOOL advice which is to adjust the scale - which I cannot do on my smaller Kapex. So thank you, I’ll spend the first part of Sunday tuning the Kapex. I was also grateful for your explanation as to how it got banged out of true.

Hey Robin and everyone else, yeah its so true i realised along time ago as a carpenter and builder you will always need about 3 mitre saws, one for the site one for the boys and one for finish work, well thats how i do it, alway have freud blades in my saws, best blades available in my opinion, i also managed to get my hand on the same estwing California framing hammer as yourself, beast of a hammer, thor would love it just as much as i do

Hi Robin, Due to this covic 19 outbreak, I have not been able to go out for meal and I am saving a ton of money but getting sick and tired of toast and chip butties with the occasional soup through in for good measure. Anyway, I decided that I would treat myself to a new evolution chop saw. I have it in pride of place in my chop saw station but I have the same problem as you have. I read the manual and it is sorted the same way as your chop saw and I was a little reluctant to move the fence, so your video has come at a perfect time.
Hi Robin, thanks for that adjustment tip. I know you are vastly more experienced than me but if I could offer just one tip...... it maybe worth checking your roofing square is true. I made an MFT style workbench and thought I had got things a bit wrong. BUT I was initially checking with my generic roofing square. Once I figured that it was a fraction out and then bought an Empire roofing square found it was all set out perfectly in the first place. Moral of the story is don’t presume what you are using to check is perfect.
Just a DIYer here, hoping to learn some things in order to build my own garden room. I have come ‘across’ from “Scott Brown Carpentry” rather than Skill Builder, but I will check that out. Watched a few videos in the last day or two and have subscribed. Look forward to watching more 👍🏻

Thanks for sharing this, ended up spending the afternoon sorted my saw out, was unable to get the fence to sit straight so ended up making a new one. Saw cuts great and square now.
A good jam up with timber orientated the wrong way or with tension in it can knock a fence out too
Wouldn't this method put the fence out of line with the extensions? I am sure Festool advises doing this by adjusting the scale on the quadrant.

Hi Robin if you adjust one fence to be perfectly square you can then use a straight edge to bring the other one into parallel with the first and you know it'll be true. That way you're only having to deal with one side rather than trying to jiggle both about.
These fences are one piece, you can’t adjust them independently.

Evening mate, can I get your advice on the new Festool KS 120 Kapex and the TSC 55. I currently have a small work shop in my summer house with limited room. As a side project I build a lot of benches and tables with scaffold boards. Can you tell me in your view what would be the best machine to work with these boards in particular as I work with them a lot. Also I only have a sjoberg work bench so in terms of workability what one will work best with this, many thanks. I would really value your opinion, I love watching your videos, you are a great inspiration, keep up the great work!
Thanks robin! Very informative. I also noticed in the background you don't have noggins in your walls. For speedy install of insulation this is obviously the way to go but just wondering the circumstances in which one can avoid noggins given they add structural rigidity?

If only you'd made this a day earlier haha, I've just adjusted my dewalt sliding mitre saw as it wasn't cutting at 90 degrees but I adjusted the metal plate for locking in the different angle cuts, doh.
Should I start from scratch or make any other adjustments?
Don't want to be a keyboard warrior but I would say the correct way to adjust the DeWalt and the Kapex is via the detent plate at the front. It's in the manual. You get the zero bang on and then everything else follows suit.

I have an Erbauer sliding compound mitre saw and I hadn't used it for a few mouths, then when I placed a piece of 4x2 to cut I noticed that the fence was bent by about 10 degrees.
I couldn't believe my eyes. It's a cast alloy piece, and it's held to the plate by four allen screws which were very tightly fastened. How could this happen? Have you ever seen anything like it before Robin?

I have a Metabo mitre saw. It's good but it was well out when I got it. Unfortunately Metabo don't put alignment in the instructions, but they do a guide that's specific for their mitre saws, just email their head office or DM them on Twitter.

Robin, I’ve been definitely going to start doing it for about 20 years now 🤣. Like you said in a previous video, we just get engrossed in the work and that mentality of “cracking on” and “getting something accomplished.” Like you I’m 50 this year and the brain is slowly wising up, whilst my body quickly wears out 😱

Why didn’t you use your hikoki? Is the Festool giving better cuts?
I was using the Festool mainly for the stops on the extending table as I had many repeat cuts to perform, I was using the Hikoki for a lot of this work mate its an awesome saw
@@ukconstruction I bought the corded Hikoki last night. Can't justify the 36v as I only need it around the house. The money saved means I can buy some of their other tools too. The fact that you guys also endorse their products helped me choose between them and Makita.
Do you ever check the accuracy of your roofing square. I'm sure it is ok, but worth checking anyway,
Hi David, I do check the accuracy of the square as they do run out from time to time, and sometimes I have to "square up" the square before I start!!
Would love to know how to adjust the top bevel cut, looked everywhere 🤷
If you take off the cable tidy thing on the back, it reveals the hex screws to adjust that angle. Took me a while to figure it out myself!

Before you adjust anything take time to thoroughly clean and lubricate everything, sometimes resin and other debris can build up and cause problems.

That's a great tip..
You should google the 5 cut method for straightening a saw. It’s a lot more methodical and gets it bang on every time.
My kids couldn't swim so I told them the same, use Google, the I pad doesn't work anymore and I can't GOOGLE what went wrong?

Hi Robin, great video how do you rate the kapex saw I have used them in the past when I worked in a joiners shop and they do the job and the dust collection is great but I found it a very cumbersome tool to use I think I suits a joiners shop well but I personally don’t thing it compares to the dewalt and Makita equivalent, they are much more user friendly and the stands are a lot more rugged compared to the festool, love to know your thoughts love the channel. 👍🏻

I have this saw ,it’s a pain in the Ass , the fences don’t slide properly ,I’m forever Re calibrating it , and the cutting lasers move around like there lost .
Not entirely sure I could trust my Gibson square for square! I have to check the square before checking for square! But how do I check the Gibson aaahhhhhh!

The Gibson Square can actually go out of square quite easily, maybe if you knock it or it slips on the floor etc but the good news is that it is easy to square it back up, I may do a video on this as I have a few of these squares and I'm sure i have at least one that needs fine tuning!!!
I have steel one so I’m pretty sure it’s ok but it’s often what I find myself as a ref for square. Like using a spirit level that’s shot without knowing! That would be an interesting vid I remember at collage we were told there’s a trick you can do with a centre punch on the internal corner but we never got shown. Keep up the good work all the best!
Your giving away too many secrets! I've survived on the quality of my mitres because I calibrate my saw regularly, now everyone knows! Hahaha!
Note for anyone who actually reads the comments : you don't need a £800 saw to get perfect cuts, a £100 B&Q saw with a £20 blade I will give just as good a cut if you follow the same checks and adjustments.
And no matter how expensive the tool, always check the calibration.

I own a disston saw worth £250, I have learned to sharpen and set it but I still use a jack saw.

I bet that £1200 Festool saw is more accurate than your £10 roofing square.
My roofing square was way more than £10!!! and if looked after then you can keep them really true but it does depend on the quality though!!!
