    I want to re-explore this so badly but on the other hand, the two times I did explore this, once with video, it was just so much cleaner than it is now, now its just destroyed inside and it breaks my heart being my childhood mall.

      I'm not at an "urban explorer", though I've often been fascinated with the concept. I lived most of my life in the South Hills, so Century III is definitely a memory. Even in the decay I recognize certain things like the "bricks" inside, or the fountain with the blue tiles... closest I've done to urbex was poke around Centralia, PA a couple times, which now is also pretty much nothing.

    I've spent most of my life living in the South Hills (recently just turned 40), so Century III is definitely an old memory of mine. It's funny how I recognize things like the interior brickwork or the fountain and its blue tiles. I wasn't a proper mallrat despite the prevalence of that in the 90s (honestly it was always going to be a two-bus-route trip to get to any mall, so I generally didn't) but I still went there on occasion with my parents, or in my 20s with my brothers when I had a driver's license. Honestly the general decay of malls in the US is not surprising to me particularly. Even before they became the phenomenon they are now, I probably haven't been to a mall in a good 10 years. General purpose stores like Walmart and Target replaced the need for several disparate specialty stores, and otherwise I just order everything online, which spares me all the time and gas traveling to a mall and wandering around, possibly not finding what I wanted anyway.

    Century III is hazardous as heck at this point- especially the roof, where a few weeks after this someone ended up falling through, dropping 20 feet and suffered critical injuries in the process. Structurally speaking, it will only get worse from here.

    We've lived in Jefferson Hills since 1996, this mall is where we spent every weekend with our kids. Watching this was so sad, it used to be amazing until they added bus stops😪and brought in the gangs. Sears was where our dentist & optician was, plus we got our family portraits & hair done in the salon. So there were 4 stores inside of the Sears itself. I got my nails done at Sassy's, took my kids to Game Stop & Hot Topic all the time. There used to be a KB toys on the lower level by Penneys in the late 90s. If you have any questions, I can answer.

      They make money on it being that way. They can't afford to fix it and keep it up to code... so they let it fall into disrepair and then they can claim it as a loss tax time. It's sad and sick. Places like this could be turned into cool affordable housing and small communities... or cool old folks homes... but nope. I have an old abandoned hospital by me. Lights still on and everything. But it's not to code and costs too much to repair... so they are letting rot and collect $ via taxes as a loss.

    That building is done for. Once it has a snow load on that roof that's already compromised from the fires and all the roof leaks etc. I have a bad feeling that the roof is just gonna fall in on itself. The Structural integrity is severely compromised and is at very high risk for collapse. One of my relatives worked in construction and we have real a bad feeling about this building. They need to cut all the utilities that might be still connected. Lock it the hell down and bulldoze the place. That black mold alone is bad. All i have to say is Eff Moonbeam!

    Fiesta mall in Arizona is worse I blame city and county where these malls are more than the owners. They have more call on what happens to these places they should've been ripped down years ago. There's no reason they should be still standing. None of these damn places there, passé anyway ! Most people these days are too busy to go out shopping so staying at home and shopping is ideal. Most people that are out in the malls are people that are bored and don't work so screw them all as we don't need them grow up people your past is over with these. Yes, it's sad but it's reality move on.

    • @ayrezazu6267
      @ayrezazu6267 7 месяцев назад +2

      It's private property. The City and County can't do anything about this but take the owners to court and impose fines for letting this become a danger to the community. That would be like you saying the City or County can take anyone's house that is not kept up, they can't, it's private property and on the owner to take care of it. Besides it would cost millions of dollars to tear it down so why should the tax payers in the city or county have to pay for that. The owner needs to either sell it to someone who will do something with it or tear it down. West Mifflin is in a battle with the owners of this property and they are trying to get it condemned. However, the owners of the property will just keep appealing and this will be in the court system for years.
