This is really good footage a of what is likely the last year of Greenspoint mall. This mall really deteriorated fast. I remember watching a facebook live of a news anchor walking around in the mall in 2020 and it was in okay shape back then.
How were you able to get there with security? I was able to go into the wing with the movie theater, but there was a lot of activity with shipments and someone moving things through the mall. The food court barricade was also being watched by a guard
@@MnemonicHeadTrip wait when was that? I have never seen security guards or had problems with exploring the mall. Maybe it was just a slow day and I got lucky. It was probably like a Tuesday around 6pm. But even last year and the year before when I explored I’d never seen any security
@@PastLivesUrbex it was around 5 months ago so maybe I just went at a bad time. He was super rude to me and questioned why I was looking around and told me “it’s just a mall.” I only saw the outside of the movie theater inside of the mall, I didn’t go into any employee tunnels because there were shipments of some kind being moved around. Is there a way to get into the main part of the mall besides the public entrance? It looks like the door was just open to one of the department stores in this video, but I don’t think it connects to the rest of the building. Someone also mentioned that you can supposedly get in through the roof, and I did see open doors on the roof with google maps so
@MnemonicHeadTrip you have to go in through the abandoned Macys with the open door in the back and then go on the roof. The entrance into the mall is barricaded off
Me and my fiance went to Greenspoint sometime earlier this year. There had been a storm that had just hit Houston a couple of days before and while said storm did not hurt some areas (my neighborhood for instance) it really fucked up the area around Greenspoint. All the power around the mall was gone. We drove up thinking we were going to go inside and see the place, but a security guard said the mall was closed because of no power. That was a shame as that would be our last chance to see it. We did drive around the place and the poor building had become just a downright pathetic shell of itself. Meanwhile the mall that is the nearest to Greenspoint (up to the north of it) - The Woodlands Mall - is still VERY bustling and kicking serious shopping ass.
Back in the early 80s, when Atari released Pac-Man for the 2600, my dad had to drive all the way across Houston to the Sears store at Greens point to get a copy as it was sold out everywhere else. I was super happy until I got home and played it. Never went back to that mall again.
LOL @ "revitalize the area". The reason North Houston became an urban hell hole is because private real estate equity and slumlords built low income housing 35 years ago. Same thing happened to Pasadena, Sharpstown, Humble and countless other Metro Houston areas. If you want to revitalize an area you gentrify it and push the cultural underclass and lumpenproles out. That's what they did in Midtown, The Heights, EaDo, etc.

I used to live in Houston for most of my life and back in the 1980s, I once saw a National League baseball game most likely the Braves vs some team or the Cubs vs some team because I used to watch them on WTBS or WGN respectively in those days. The play by play announcers talked about an upcoming road trip schedule where their team was going face the Houston Astros as visitors. One of the announcers had mentioned how much he looked forward to that trip because he enjoyed visiting Houston. When asked why, he said that it was because of all the nice malls it had implying that it was one of the few things that Houston was known for at the time other than it being NASA's home. Now from what I've learned, many malls in Houston are dead like this one or dying except for the ones near affluent neighborhoods. For most of the time I lived in those areas, there were still many whites in the mix, but then a huge influx of hispanics from central america or OTMs (other than Mexicans) started to make the whites feel uncomfortable and they decided to sell and move away from the metro areas or to midtown, another part of town near downtown which is nice. The malls near where this white exodus occured that I saw collapse were in Southeast Houston. They were Gulfgate Mall, Pasadena Town Square Mall and Almeda Mall. Gulfgate Mall was torn down in the early 2000's and got converted to an outdoor shopping center. Pasadenta Town Square Mall, in Pasadena, TX, is now dead. Almeda Mall I heard is still open thanks to its anchor store Macys, however, rumor has it that it's also going to close soon and once that happens, Almeda Mall won't survive much longer. I know some will argue or try to correct me that online shopping is the main cause of this, but that hasn't affected malls in nicer parts of Houston or nice surrounding areas like where Baybrook Mall, Memorical City Mall, Katy Mills Mall, First Colony Mall and the Houston Galleria are located. I'm a hispanic that grew up in the barrio in Southeast Houston and though it hurts to say it, the truth is that black and brown neighborhoods with little to no whites usually go to sh*t.
