I’ve always been in love with instant photography, but when I was younger my mother would always say that it would be too expensive for me just to get and forget about (can’t blame her, I’ve had many hobbies as phases, some quite expensive too, only to quit after 2 to 3 months) and I just kind of kept wanting it but buried it, after all, she was right. (She did give me an sprocket rocket tho, and I also love that one). But years later, I saved some money and bought my camera: a Instax Mini 9, the darker blue shade. I loved that camera to bits (still do), took her everywhere, it didn’t pass like other hobbies. It was easy to manipulate, but still gave me some creative freedom, being able to change the light setting to whatever I wanted, while still having the input from the camera to what would be best, gave me an idea of what the shots would look like, and it gave me wonderful pictures I’m very proud of. That’s why when a few months later, when the mini 11 came out, I wasn’t sad in the least, because I wouldn’t have any freedom at all with it, it would be truly point-and-shoot, and I was already hooked on being able to have the freedom to do these little changes (and I was also experimenting with double exposures, which is very fun) That said, when my mini 9 broke, I was desolated. I didn’t want the mini 11, it would take away so much from the fun at that point. And then my mother surprised me with the mini 90 for my 20th birthday. I was elated, it was the camera I’d always eye at the store, had so many options, but if I wanted to just have fun and keep it simple, I still could. I thought I’d never get one because it was just too expensive, and because you know, I already had one. But oh boy, do I love this camera to bits. So yeah, I 100% recommend either the 9 (I fixed mine eventually) or the 90, the design on the 11 is really really cute but... The camera itself just doesn’t do it for me (it’s great for people who don’t want to fuss with stuff when taking pictures of friends and family tho, my view is just more geared towards liking a little bit of control, but not an overwhelming amount, and wanting to do a little more than take selfies or portraits, like landscapes and/or getting a little artsy with shots)
How did your mini 9 break?? I thought stuff that doenst have much mechanical friction could basically last forever, of course circuitry corrosion but that can be fixed and prevented , plus I think some newer stuff fixed the issue. Did the mini 9 just disintegrate under UV rays because plastic or was it dropped
Hey!! Thank you so much for your review about instax cameras, I was searching information for decide what kind of camera I want. After of watched your video, finally I decided for Instax mini 90!! I would like to have more control of the photos...🥰📸 Greetings from Peru!
great review very helpful,i was leaning toward the mini 40 now maybe the 90 would be my choice, more features but not complicated-thanks so much for explaining in clear way.stay safe always🌻
Another great comparison video! Your previous videos helped me get interested into these new "instant" cameras, so I always look forward to your reviews/comparisons on any new releases. Recently it seems like you only really look at the Instax cameras made by Fujifilm - are there not any newly released cameras that use Instax made by other companies anymore (such as Lomography)? If there are any, I know I'd be interested in seeing your thoughts!
Great review as always! Made me buy the mini 11 and mini 90. I currently bought the mini evo. Would you create a mini 90 vs. mini evo comparison please 😍
why do you think Fujifilm keeps phasing out the cameras which were more versatile setting wise? I've been looking for double exposure ones and ones with flash suppression but they're all discontinued:(
Yes, the price has really increased a lot lately. I think this is due to the fact that the camera was taken out of production. I'm from Russia, we have these cameras almost nowhere to buy, so I looked, including on Amazon - there are cameras (new) for $ 170, if I'm not mistaken
The reason I've got tge 40 is tinme tge appeal of instant pics is the simplicity. So, for the looks and simplicity you can't beat the 40. I already have a bunch of complicated cameras.
I’ve had two mini 90 they always stop working and go dark after a few months . I rather get the 40 and try that one instead . The 90 is way overpriced for the issues it tends to inevitably have
I purchased the mini 40 before finding your comparison video! Based on your review, id definitely prefer the mini 90, however the price jump is much larger now! The mini 90's are starting out at $150-$160, where as i got my mini 40 for $90. However, i do like my mini 40 and my only real problem is not being able to disable the flash. Of course that doesn't bother me too much, as with alittle bit of tape, i can hide the flash.
Too bad the instax mini black 40 instant camera doestn sell in stores in the netherlands but the mini 11 do sell in stores in the netherlands and they sell the mini films to put in the camera,s. Its great for a vacation and taking pictures. I paint and draw and my eyes hurt from looking on my tablet so i wanna buy the instax mini 40 black 😊 i would love to own the instax mini 40. I am a sucker for nostalgic camera,s😂 They have a soft spot in my heart and forever will be😊✌🏾👋🏾 i love you,re review of the 3 mini camera,s😊
Does taking a picture with the flash on in a mirror with Instax cameras damage the camera itself, or does it just ruin the shot you took? Similarly, does capturing the sun damage the camera in any way, or just the shot itself?
Just the shot But tbh I kind of like the effect and playing with it, so I wouldn’t say ruin, it just “burns” that place I took this picture that I thought would turn out as a regular pretty sunset but after the shot showed up I ended up with orange skies, purple sand and a black sun with a halo so I’m really not ever complaining about it, it is one of the dopest shots I ever took and to this day I still can’t quite believe the colours I managed to get.
Great video!!! I was looking over at your backpack reviews, as I'm looking for a new one myself, and wondered if you could do a review of the Orion Herschel mid-volume back pack. I'm stuck on whether to get the little America Herschel mid-volume or the Orion mid-volume. Thanks so much Lauren!
can you also compare the sq1 and wide 300, please? i need some advice.. i can't decide which one. love your helpful videos.. greetings from germany! :-)
Congratulations on the review, I wanted to ask for advice, I would like to buy my first snapshot and I am undecided between the instax liplay, the mini 90 or the polaroid go, I wish it were also portable. Which would you recommend according to your experience?
Hey did you get one yet? If not, here's my friendly input liplay if you want to be able to print phone pictures, not waste film, and/or like the sound feature. For me instant photography is magical because you don't know how exactly it will look. But for others, the liplay is neat because they don't want to waste film or they use it mainly as a printer. It also looks pretty okay. 90 is still my favorite because it's truly instant, it has flash suppression and double exposure and it looks decent, while still having the fun and many frame colored instax mini film. polaroid go if you like slightly artsy shots, and have more money for the film. It's super cute and portable but the shots are often mediocre for me. So yeah, it would depend on what you're looking for in your camera.
Thanks for you comparison! I used to have the Instax mini 9, but it‘s so useless and crap!🥵🤯 the flash is way too much. Now I know i‘ve to buy the mini 90y
Hey! I had the mini 70, about a year I had to change the batteries, when I replaced them my camera didn't turn on again :( it sounds like it's about to open but it just makes a clicking sounds but that's it. Does anybody have this problem and was able to fix it?
I have a problem with my instax mini90 ( i bought it 2yrs ago) when i shoot pictures it came out black. i dunno what to do😥 the flash is not working also.
that's the sad part about the mini 90. i had mine before 2 months before it started giving me problems. i remember getting an error message on mine as well as mine camera lense getting stuck. it conked out after a couple of months of use. i decided to just get a instax printer instead
Hi everyone, I have the Instax Mini 90 and it started blinking with ‘E’ at the film counter. I’ve done everything to try to fix it, I’ve changed the battery, I’ve changed the film and everything is aligned properly and nothing is working!! It still has the blinking ‘E’ at the back but it still does turn on and the lenses still expands but just doesn’t work after pressing the shutter button . HELP PLS

I would go for 90 because of flash control. I can also see myself doing interesting stuff with the bulb mode
That is what bothered me with lot's of Fuji Instax Cameras..., that I wasn't able to turn off the flash :)

Mini 90.
Hands down. ❤
Is there gonna be an updated version of the mini 90 any time soon, and would you say it is worth getting the mini 90 even though I have a mini 11

I'd have chosen to get the new 40 if it let you suppress flash 😢
Where do you buy the 90 for $120.? The cheapest I've seen it is $169. 🤔 unless you get it in the UK then it's 150 something.

I've SQ 6 and Wide 300. The main difference is, they print different size of films.
Didn't get SQ 1 as the functionality seems less than SQ 6.
Thank you!
