Thanks for the kind words! It was a cold night but definitely worth it! Hopefully once Covid restrictions are less I can go back out and catch some cool aircraft on my camera 😎
LOT used to fly these into Toronto 3x week... Fully loaded, on a hot day, it would clear the approach lights...by retracting the gear! Still...a beautiful and well built aircraft
This engine was designed in the 60s. It's reliable but not fuel efficient and makes alot of noise. Overall, the plane is beautiful and unique. The British equivalent, the Vickers VC10, no longer flies at all.
@@katimboallan4605 only an ignorant could have written that it is reliable... read about the catastrophies it made and how many people died just because engine's bad design and quality. Or just compare units built/crashed to any other western aircraft... I guess only MCDonnell can compete with IL62
@@deCastelano how come the UN uses them. I have seen one only that I could not take a picture because the area was restricted. How come your British equivalent is out service or at least was remove out service much earlier than the IL-62. Did you know that North Korea's Air koryo still flies these machine. There is no single recorded crash with air koryo involving an IL-62. If you have this info please share it. The Boeing 707 had more crashes than the IL-62
@@katimboallan4605 Your point about IL serving in North Korea is not too strong to be honest ;-) We would probably not get information about a crash from N. Korea due to censorship - the same as it was in USSR at 70's, 80's etc. There was nice text at www.icao.int/ in the past, where they stated that no reliable statistic could be made related to Russian aviation due to smoothing over the data, however the article is removed now as I see. You have a point with B707, but only partially - if You check hours of flight in B707 and IL62 and crashes caused not by human error, but only related to the constructions failures You will see how bad IL62 was. I'm from Poland, where those planes were very popular back in the day and there is even a label that IL-62 is a flying coffin
What's so rare about it? Being banned in EU airspace? I'll give you that but nothing rare about a bird that still has pretty sizeable operational fleet.
Thanks for your patience and loss of sleep in getting this.
An elegant, looking aircraft.
It has a fatal flaw in the design of the tail-wing
@@binaryruffian7538 wot problem?
What an exquisite plane! Just a beautiful aircraft!
Yeah, and has mind of its own and likes to land in the forest. Extremely exquisite aircraft.
Yep,beautiful as the similar British VC 10.There's a video of an IL 62 landing in a bare field in eastern Germany-tough old plane.
Красивый, элегантный, мощный... Один из лучших образцов авиатехники в мире.
Very nice and high quality video! Thank you for spending the night in your car to film this.

A rare beauty in shape and sound indeed.
To my eyes, the VC-10 was the best looking British aircraft ever made. And the IL-62 was certainly the best looking Soviet airliner!
Настоящую красоту годы не уносят!
Great recording... what a beast
Thank you! Yeah it's a pretty special aircraft, I love the old Soviet stuff!
Ильюшка.... ИЛ 62 какой он красавец!! Our Ilyushin 62 was so beautiful
The design is perfect as per placement of engines and aerodynamics.
@KEYBOARD COMMANDO Official their is a special technique to avoid such mishaps.fyi.u may nt agree no offence.
That was a perfect take off.

It is a super aircraft, very smooth take offs and smooth landings.
This jet sounds haunting at idle

I think you're confused.
Two in commercial service isn't a sizeable operational fleet. It was also pre the Belarusian EU Airspace ban.
