  • Saint Charles Borromeo (1538-1584) was a tireless reformer and a beacon of holiness during the turbulent times of the Counter-Reformation. Born into a noble family in Milan, he chose a life of service to the Church, becoming a cardinal and archbishop by the age of 22. Charles played a key role in implementing the reforms of the Council of Trent, working to restore discipline and holiness within the clergy and the laity. He founded seminaries, schools, and hospitals, emphasizing education and care for the poor. During the plague in Milan, he courageously ministered to the sick and dying, offering hope and comfort amidst despair. Known for his humility and simplicity, Charles gave away his wealth to support the needy. Canonized in 1610, he is celebrated on November 4 as a patron of bishops, catechists, and spiritual reformers, inspiring us to live with faith, courage, and unwavering dedication to God’s work.
