Recently started using a telephoto lens for street photography AND the looks I get because of the giant lens are absolutely insane (got used to not getting bothered by it though). I personally like the compression and it makes you anticipate and pay attention to your surroundings way more. Honestly another great video ^^
I like the rainy shot of the people crossing the street. I think telephoto street shots can work well if you fill the frame, and use the shallow depth of field to your advantage. Otherwise it can look a bit like surveillance shots.
After I made a video (it's not out yet) about how I prefer longer lenses for street photography than most people recommend. I searched for other videos about long lenses for street and that's how I found this video and your channel. I really like your work and have been watching and enjoying many of your videos. Keep it up, you are doing great! On my small youtube channel, I do a live stream from time to time and I often have a small segment where I talk about a channel that I really like. I always feature small channels with under 10,000 subscribers. I plan to feature your channel on my next stream.
At night, I go with F1.8 primes, either my 50 or my 85. During the day I like to use really compact short tele zooms. On Fuji I like the 55-200 and on my little Nikon Z 50 the 50-250 is amazing. My girlfriend kills with the crazy Tamron 18-400 lens for apsc. I use all sorts of lenses, I play around with lots of vintage manual focus prime lenses, but I think I do my best work with the two small autofocus telephoto lenses I mentioned above.
Good stuff man. I thought all the photos you got from the 200 were miles better than the 18mm lens you used. I love prime lenses but I'm loving my panasonic 35-100 too. Have you tried a short telephoto lens for your street photography or do you only use primes?
Thanks for this video. I have the a6700 and I am unsure whether to get this lens or the 70-350. The 70-350 is versatile but slow and expensive. I see the Samyang 135 f2 is only around 200 2nd hand plus it's fast with nice bokeh. Just wondering where you got the lens as I have read some blogs of some of these lenses having quality control issues. I see yours is good as most reviews say it is tack sharp.
I shoot an aps-c camera as hobby photographer and came across vintage 135mm f2.8 lenses and thought they might be nice to experiment with as complementary lens to get nicer bokeh and low light performance compared to the 80-200 f4.5-5.6 usm I already own. But now I heard you say the manual focus is very difficult and you stepped down a lot I'm getting doubt whether I should try it or stick to the 80-200, which is actually small and lightweight compared to some primes. Would you mind sharing your opinion on this?
Yeah man I just found it hard shooting a moving target so far away with such a narrow depth of field. I think shooting video is easier, as it's a bit more forgiving, but trying to nail street photography at f2 on a manual focus 135 is a serious challenge! It'll depend on what your subject is (a stationary one being obviously easier to focus on) and whether or not your sticking to shooting wide open at the likes of f2. To be honest, this was shot years ago and I would never use a manual focus lens like this for street photography
@@the100guy Thanx man. I shoot both still and moving subjects. The whole point of wanting a fast prime was to use it wide open since otherwise my 80-200 4.5-5.6 will suffice. You just saved me some money cause I'm not going to buy a manual 135mm prime ;)
Hi, this vid struck a chord with me. I'm fed up to the back teeth with reading and hearing about the "best" lens for street. I think there's no such lens. It's all about result. I love your 200mm results. You said you prefer your 85mm. I've had my Sony A7iii for a week. I also got the 24-70 g master. I shoot mostly at 70. I cut my teeth on Canon. I ended up with the 5Dmkiii and the 24-70 LF4. When I decided to go mirrorless I chose Sony and I'm still getting used to the "infamous" Sony menus, although I don't believe it is all that difficult. HCB and Winogrand cropped the ass out of their pics and there is nothing wrong with that. All that matters is having a good result. Keep up the good work.
Loved your sarcasm.
Greetings from Portland, OR. I enjoyed your video and some day hope to visit your green land, camera in hand.
Cool thanks!

Thanks so much. 85 is my jam for street photography but I love even longer. 135 is sweet. I just find with wide angles it's tough to see the shots

Amazing dude thanks so much! What lenses would you go for for street photography?

Thanks dude. I just recently got the tamron 28-75 f2.8 but haven't had much opportunity to use it yet unfortunately

Thank you so much man!!
HCB did not crop his photos, other than ironically his most famous, Behind the Gare St Lazare, because half the frame was taken up by a fence.
Perfect vlog lens! Haha!
I know right?!
Has anyone told you that you look identical to Luis Gerardo Méndez?
Never heard of him. Looked him up and I will take that thank you
Yeah! He really does!!
Your funny....
