constructive criticism: please show whether any given app is free or not somewhere, it gets quite disappointing to search for an app only to find out it costs 12 dollars
Honestly this is, in my opinion, one of the best ways to make a video like this. The footage is professional and clean, however the jokes make me stay for the entire video!
The note app curve diagram chart thing is actually pretty accurate. I used to use Apple Notes, then I started looking at other options and used Obsidian on and off for a while, and just recently I decided to switch back to Apple Notes.
Personally i'm still using Notion (a obsidian alternative) and haven't switched back since, i mean you definitely have a point in the sense that using a software that provides with so many options and customizations like obsidian, does teach you the skills to : 1) make sense of what feature you imperatively need, and which is a nice addition and 2) makes you rethink how you're gonna organize your text and differents files and what not, because of some constraints such as time to arrange everything, and user interface conditions (can't drag and drop, etc...) but maybe it's just me that can't (back) move to notes due to the :| 1) lack of features (code blocs, separation of text into columns, ease of naviguation into grouping of notes, databases, ...) 2) lack of customizability (icons for notes, page covers, ...)
I would always choose Obsidian over Apple Notes or Notion simply for the fact that it's saving all the files as Markdown and really feels like a big playground. You can work with it in a really advanced way (Zettelkasten etc.) but also just simply take notes. I sync my notes with Git for example. This works like a charm as markdown files are simply text and git diff all the stuff works super nice. For me, Obsidian feels the most "not being in a golden cage" in comparison.
@@jannesbrunner9267 if by "the golden cage" you mean being locked into the ecosystem (notion, apple notes), that's the main reason i use nvim instead of apple notes also i'm thinking about trying kakoune (after ByDefault's video) but i'm using nvim for other stuff other than notes, so i'm just thinking instead of actually trying

it baffles me no one ever takes about Raycast. Not only is it a super good Spotlight replacement, but also includes community extensions for all sorts of apps. I also use it for window management and keyboard shortcuts.
I always start with Apple native apps for everything. If there is really crucial functionality missing I try out other apps. They need to be significantly better to justify the price (most are paid).

Kind of sad that apps like selfcontrol don’t really work for people in IT, since it’s too easy to defeat. So I will try not to scar anyone else with the knowledge of how to make it not work😅.
I only use MacOS on my Macbook. Since I come from a tiling WM on Linux and I was surprised to find out how atrocious window management in MacOS is.Thank god for the tiling window managers that exist for MacOS. Those make it 100 times more usable.

Fun fact, MacOS does have their own Pika app called Digital Color Meter which shows you the color code of the pixel your cursor is on
Fun Fact: In Brazil the word "Pika" is used to refer to the male sexual organ, aka: penis
