Try Pulsar. They're keeping Atom alive by forking it. It's community driven and they're making a lot of improvements to the standard Atom experience imo

constructive criticism: please show whether any given app is free or not somewhere, it gets quite disappointing to search for an app only to find out it costs 12 dollars
Noted. Thx for watching
element of surprise
lol@@leonardovillalobos5277
Always thought its funny that people aren’t willing to pay a couple bucks for an app that improves quality of life, less than the cost of lunch lmao
@@BenedictAllen_ depends where you come from, $12 can get me 5 lunches
The note app curve diagram chart thing is actually pretty accurate. I used to use Apple Notes, then I started looking at other options and used Obsidian on and off for a while, and just recently I decided to switch back to Apple Notes.
Personally i'm still using Notion (a obsidian alternative) and haven't switched back since, i mean you definitely have a point in the sense that using a software that provides with so many options and customizations like obsidian, does teach you the skills to :
1) make sense of what feature you imperatively need, and which is a nice addition
and 2) makes you rethink how you're gonna organize your text and differents files and what not, because of some constraints such as time to arrange everything, and user interface conditions (can't drag and drop, etc...)
but maybe it's just me that can't (back) move to notes due to the :|
1) lack of features (code blocs, separation of text into columns, ease of naviguation into grouping of notes, databases, ...)
2) lack of customizability (icons for notes, page covers, ...)
anytype is AMAZING as long as you take the time to set it up
I would always choose Obsidian over Apple Notes or Notion simply for the fact that it's saving all the files as Markdown and really feels like a big playground. You can work with it in a really advanced way (Zettelkasten etc.) but also just simply take notes. I sync my notes with Git for example. This works like a charm as markdown files are simply text and git diff all the stuff works super nice. For me, Obsidian feels the most "not being in a golden cage" in comparison.
@@jannesbrunner9267 if by "the golden cage" you mean being locked into the ecosystem (notion, apple notes), that's the main reason i use nvim instead of apple notes
also i'm thinking about trying kakoune (after ByDefault's video) but i'm using nvim for other stuff other than notes, so i'm just thinking instead of actually trying
call me crazy but i take notes on photoshop and just expand the canvas when i run out of space. Sort of like onenote but with more drawing power
Honestly this is, in my opinion, one of the best ways to make a video like this. The footage is professional and clean, however the jokes make me stay for the entire video!
Cheers! Thx for watching
the jokes are cringe bozo

This was actually pretty amazing, I regularly watch these kinds of videos and I rarely find apps that are truly new to me. Great Job and keep doing an amazing job! You earned a subscriber and I will be waiting for your next finds.
Awesome, thanks!
Absolutely loved your energy for this video!
ELMENT OF SURPRISE
Haha cheers!
Great video as always!
I would reccommend switching from alfred to raycast.
That's a great idea! I use raycast too!
I just found raycast yesterday and replaced, alt-tab rectangle and maccy with it. Really worth a try
Keyboard maestro is probably the single most powerful mac app for me. You can control and script basically anything you can think of. Worth exploring!
what do you mean, script?
Love your energy. Great and helpful video ❤
Ayee glad you liked it
Your videos are amazing, informative and fun!!
Cheers!
Hey,
I had no intention in watching the whole video, maybe just skip through, but the way you show the apps with the sense of humour made me watch all of it and subscribe, keep it up!
Ayee thanks! Glad you liked the video
You've got me subscribed with this one ❤
Nice one mentioning Arc. Biggest productivity boost.
honestly great video man!
honestly, thanks!
Bro you are something else. You changed my life actually. I can't get rid of your videos I think I will be watched all your videos one day..
Haha glad to hear that!
Amazing stuff. thank you for sharing. very useful information.
Cheers!
If somebody had shown this guy what raycast is the video would have been half as long. Raycast is the one to rule them all.
true
Ex windows user getting Mac:
everything is paid, where are my features
Ex linux user getting Mac:
macOS is a real UNIX, let's brew some open source cool apps
linux is superior, my setup can do all of this without me ever having paid a single dime
The most essential one, imo, is Sip. Because it has a very nice logo.
You seriously deserve more subscribers and views, top notch vid!
🫡 thx for watching
Great and intertaining video, that was awesome
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed it
I always start with Apple native apps for everything. If there is really crucial functionality missing I try out other apps. They need to be significantly better to justify the price (most are paid).
Fun fact, MacOS does have their own Pika app called Digital Color Meter which shows you the color code of the pixel your cursor is on
Fun Fact: In Brazil the word "Pika" is used to refer to the male sexual organ, aka: penis
apart from TONS if vids here in youtube about these mac 3rd party apps, this man is the best!! mans in my wavelength and just gets my vibe hahahahahaha! amazing!
Your videos are so crisp. Do you edit your videos on your own or through any editor?
Which Video Editing Software do you use?
Make a video on this topic…
Oh thanks! Yeah, I do everything myself. Premiere Pro.
Best Mac app video I’ve ever seen. Well done 🤝🏼
Thanks!
BetterDisplay has blown me away! I wanted to upgrade my older 1080p monitor, but with that program it's looks NICE

man your video is great, you have a new follower. I have a question, where can I find Stats app?
Thanks! I linked to a list of all the apps in the description. For the Stats app, just go into their GitHub page (here: github.com/exelban/stats ), then under "Releases" (on the right side) click on the latest version, and then scroll down to the bottom and click on the "Stats.dmg" file to download it.
Whats about raycast? I think its better then Alfred and also have other tool you showed built-in like clipboard manager, window manager, alias, color picker, etc.
Also a store with a lot more tools.
It’s also free*
Raycast is the best, and all the extensions you can get with it makes it even better
This was a really good video
More! I need more!
Glad to see you’re using arc browser 😁
Love your content, and I am subbed but idk why your videos get lost in my sub feed or the main page, and when I want to look up a particular video of yours, I always struggle to find you xD
Isn't RUclips algorithm just great?
Ayee thx for watching! ikr, isn't it just great xd
very nice presentation style to my taste. subbed
Welcome aboard!
Amazing video
Cheers!
did not know about pika. that one is helpful thanks
honestly the deeper it went the more commonly known apps were being mentioned
it baffles me no one ever takes about Raycast. Not only is it a super good Spotlight replacement, but also includes community extensions for all sorts of apps. I also use it for window management and keyboard shortcuts.
It does too much stuff when I just want 1 or 2 things it’s super overkill and really overwhelming
I personally prefer dropover over the yoink. Cool video btw
Thanks!
Besides Oversight, I suggest other apps from the same maker to make you Mac safer.
OMG this better display is so Goated it even adjusts my LG monitor's volume and brightness using the keyboard!!!!! This is AMAZING..
Couldn't agree more!
what's the wallpaper at 8:35 😳 also, cool video. finally a 'productivity' video with some real humor in it
Ayee thx for watching

Beneath the iceberg in the darkest part of the ocean: Keyboard Maestro.
I was surprised how many of these I recognized. Especially SelfControl all the way at the bottom lol.
I think ive just discovered a big potential channel

As a graphic designer, Unsplash is such a nice place to get stock images.
Yess, that and pexels too
One of the only actually good MacOS app videos out there ngl

Amethyst is basically a TWM but on mac
Congratulations on 14 Billion subscribers!!! 😂
Ayee thank you! it was a lot of hard work xd
You should add mod to fix smooth scrolling issue with 3rd party mouses
aldente is my favorite computer program in general i wish there were equivalents of it for android windows and iphone and ipad too oh and linux too

i will certainly try the selfcontrol app. I have a youtube addiction too specially those youtube shorts i have literally no will power :/
Yeap... my willpower to turn on this app is also often too weak, but when I do it it just frees up my time so much xd
I could not use my computer with out SoundSource, so shout out to Rogue Ameba on that one. Also love TextSnip for OCRcopypaste with one keyboard shortcut
Yeah the fan speed info on M2 air is really a necessery piece of data.

LETS GO ARC STANS

Hi
hi codex
Let’s go 😂
0:33 Another good tiling window manager for MacOS is yabai, highly recommended.
Wish you added chapters to this!!
No Netflix app is a major reason I don't have this yet. No Disney plus app or the RUclips app
i just want to be able to create a new file in my current directory via finder, you can even to that in a terminal for crying out loud!
I only use MacOS on my Macbook. Since I come from a tiling WM on Linux and I was surprised to find out how atrocious window management in MacOS is.Thank god for the tiling window managers that exist for MacOS. Those make it 100 times more usable.
if you're using amethyst, look at yabai too, they are similar, but they have different features, and it worked well with multiple monitors right out of the box
so i just move to mac (well sort of), and got overwhelmed by 1 task 1 different app
> recommends obsidian
> uses notion to share app links
Windows has all of this pretty much at hand, available with hotkeys, too. But the biggest downside of windows is how unstable it is.
very stable without antivirus, updates and last gaming drivers
but there should be same uceberg of tweaks
windows is absolute trash, i’d rather use linux
@@fckSashka linux is absolute trash, id rather use Haiku FreeOS Download no virus.exe
More than 10 years using both environments, and they're both stable and fully fonctionnal on a good machine
4:12 there is a native system tool for that… Digital Color Meter
Raycast destroys Alfred on all fronts. It also does 90% of what the other apps do in this video. 👍
What killer features does Raycast have that Alfred doesn't?
Alfred user here, I'm not a fan of subscriptions🤮curious what I'm missing out on
Surely, you aren't serious. Are you? Or you just want the clout?
@@paws315 It is free. The pro version literally provides you with gpt4 integration wherever you go. Whats not to like about the ability to acquire that?🤔🤨
Raycast is far too complex. It tries to do too much
man, you destroy my mac
I installed everything omg LoL
In the end I was waiting for another elemental surprise
but the element of surprise doesn’t work if you’re enticipating it
That subtle “Skype” pause though 😂
I was looking for reason to switch, too bad I didn't find one 😅
swish is the best gesture app for window layouts
Do you know any apps to use the mac on closed lid mode, unplugged?
You clearly seem like someone who is new to Mac, a lot of the apps you mentioned are present by default in Mac OS, though they might not have some of the bells and ribbons but hey they are included and hence free, for example a colour picker
Onyx is the very bottom of the iceberg and if someone uses basically just assume they've been using macOS for about 20 years or more
Yabai and skhd would also be good additions to the bottom
why the hell did I watch this without skipping
I never used mac nor have any apple devices
Uhg. I am dork, i already knew about most of these… 🎉
You are so very clever. Could you perhaps assist? I am constantly asked to update my Apple ID settings on my MacBook and iPad. This is slowly driving me insane.
ELEMENT OF SURPRISE!
My TV aways restart when the video became to time 9:10
Can you do one with windows?
how do you manage to use your mac will all these apps? I would die from all the clutter! vanilla is always the way to go IMO :)
Also I would warn entry level users of using their Macs like this.
3rd party software is bound to be less stable than default OS behaviors, especially when you're using like 15 different workflow apps that would probably not always work with full compatibility with each other.
This can give birth to so many different issues like what happens when the install a new OS version? What if one of the apps loses dev support? Generally things will be less stable and would require the user to constantly deal with problems (which I understand some people love that stuff haha)
@@plasticsamalt6633 Agree with that. I only use my mac for finding the odd website, banking and personal, email and using office. If you don't need a computer for your livelihood I cannot think of a single app i would need or want and I watched dozens of these app videos. All respect to the creators I think they are trying to help.
I like your style. I don't use mac, I hate mac and apple and I use linux, but watched the whole video. Bery bery noice. Yoink 😂
How can you not use raycast??? It basically replaces 3-4 apps you showed, but better... and its gourgeouss
Try yabai, which in my opinion is a better version of amethyst
Supper funny goofy W but still w info video
Pika is already default in macos as digital color meter?
Are these apps available on window?
Most of them are not unfortunately
Thanks for the info
Contexts is a nice alternative to AltTab
Uuu nice I didn't know it existed
Crazy that some of those "useful apps" are default on Windows and I have been using them for years 😂
Most of these seem like feature creep but some seem cool as well.
