@laynie sammy n lilah I think this is the representative church of the Orthodox Church in America in Moscow. It's where I normally attend when I am in Moscow over a weekend. Typically there are both English speaking American and Russian priests there.
Do you need an icon for her? I was just thinking of painting St. Kassia's icon, and if I am painting it for someone, I will be more likely to get it done. My email is kkicons@gmail.com, but also I will post it in my blog with the link here when it is done so you can see it. I am a mom, and I do a lot of icons for kids (my kids are my toughest critics in fact.)
She's truly in the spirit of this chant. Even if occidental intervals are used for most part, there are NO pathological, nevrotic intensity changes, and trills are smooth. Therefore, it is NOT sentimental, but prayful indeed. And, yes, the voice is beautiful, and, above all, it is used appropriately. Finally, the drone is not too often off, so, it's ok... the gentleman did a good job. I doubt it if Callas or Mouskouri would have done better in THIS chant. God bless you. As for the composition, yes it sounds like plagal fourth, GREEK style, but many other adaptation possibilities exist....
...wow....I watched all the posts of The Kassiani one after another and this one is completely alive and shimmers with a meaningful immediacy far beyond any of the others...
What a blessing, this night my friend Fr David from Virginia sent me this video, during the Holy Days of singing the Hymn of Cassiani, lifting us upward.
If I'm not mistaken, this is in the OCA's representation Church in Moscow, St. Catherine the Great Martyr. At least, that's seems to be who has posted it.
i know about the note/drone part but i find it detracts and makes for distraction wiht difficulty to truly reflect on the words with it and for me the beauty is lost and prayer is affected.
Yes, if she couldn't sing at all and was a different race, then she would have sung it correctly. The fact that she put effort and practice into it means that it's all wrong. Orthodoxia i thanatos!
This woman was my fourth grade teacher. She not only has a beautiful voice, but a beautiful soul.

I've been looking for a baptismal name for my daughter for some time. This moved me to tears and removed all doubt. She will be Kassia.

So am I, I've been looking for a baptismal name. Kassiani would be a very strong choice.
No other recording of the Troparion of St Kassienne on You Tube has this quality of stillness, simple clarity and control. Breathtaking.
Still my favorite rendition of this song. I've listened to this hundreds of times. Such a blessing, thank you!

This lady has a remarkable voice, I love the way she places the notes so confidently and accurately. Thanks for making me aware of this.
This is hauntingly beautiful. I too weep when I listen to this due to this hymn's meaning and intense beauty. What a splendid voice!
This is beautiful beyond all words to describe it!

Beautiful. Where is this church
This was a lovely, prayerful rendition. Do you have a resource for the sheet music in this arrangement?
ww1.antiochian.org/sites/default/files/mgf_0192a.holyweek.kassiani.pdf it is slightly different (updated in 2013, and this was made in 2011).
Yes, where might I find the sheet music for this beautiful rendition of the Hymn of Kassiani?

@jeremy Troy "Kali Anastasi "
Verry Interesting.....(Y)
But: HOW could the singer find out,
how that music of the 8th century sounded like.....
This is called tradition, my friend - manuscripts are still kept and in Greece the same letters and note system is still used :)
+SUNNY RAINBOW Byzantine chant is a tradition passed down orally. There are many books written on the theory and musicology of Byzantine chant.
like the chant part but did not listen to much as the droan of the other person with it is unbearable.... keep the chant dismiss the droan.
Byzantine chant is traditionally accompanied by the ison note (drone).
i know about the note/drone part but i find it detracts and makes for distraction wiht difficulty to truly reflect on the words with it and for me the beauty is lost and prayer is affected.
Your opinions are yours, not the substance of the Holy Spirit in space and time.
nice to have your opinion shared as well, take care and may the Spirit dwell in you and all your endeavours.
It's an interesting question -- is it acceptable to dismiss ancient Christian liturgical tradition based on whether one likes it?
Trained western voice .Pale/white person . The hymn is not a performance , but a prayer of repentance. .

She is the daughter of an Antiochian Priest and one of the purest most loving people I have ever known.
Jeremy Troy white bread mayonnaise voice. It can't be helped. It's comes from the Antiochian xenophobia of any ethnicity.
Danielle Kale I commented on her voice. It her personally .
It wasn't a performance. I don't recall hearing any applause. You don't need to criticize anyone about it.
