Here I was so excited to get a puppy. Been watching all kinds of videos including a lot from this channel. Felt so prepared and couldn’t wait to apply what I learnt. Took forever to convince my husband. Finally convinced him it was a good idea. Was over the moon brought her home to start working with her. Was great when we first got home super calm and slept a lot… and then I started noticing something’s off…she’s scratching, whining, chewing, licking. Had brushed her earlier that day thought there was just a bunch of dirt on her and she was shedding a bit which was odd because she’s a bernedoodle…so I gave her a bath. She had lots and lots of flakes coming off her skin and I washed her twice but it just kept going and I’m thinking maybe she has a skin condition. so I rinse her off and put her in a towel. I’m sitting there holding her in a towel and I’m looking at her and I see one of those “flakes” MOVE! My family had came over to see her and I’m like GUYS I SWEAR I SAW SOMETHING MOVE! I start looking through her fur to find it and sure enough it moves again. Keep looking through her fur and the more I looked the worse it got. Her ears are soooo bad! And I think she has two hot spots from it so that’s also fan flipping tastic. And the fact she has curly hair makes it just that much better. I feel awful because my husband really believed we shouldn’t get a dog and I begged and begged until he finally said yes…starting to think this is my karma…hoping once we get through this things start going well but it’s gonna be tough for a while…sorry just needed to rant because I’m feeling so overwhelmed and discouraged 😕

We are so excited about having our goldendoodle pupper! I’ve been searching high and low for tips on how to crate train and where to put the crate in a two story home? We have a two story townhome so space is limited. Our living room is downstairs and that’s where I want the crate to be normally, but we do also spend a lot of time upstairs.
I was thinking of having a more portable crate upstairs so the pup has a safe space upstairs to sleep without having to lug the main crate up and down the stairs. I’d love to get your thoughts on this!

Rachel, thank you so much for these videos, I am getting a puppy in the fall. Quick question, I am looking at the Diggs crate. My bedroom is on the second floor, should I move this crate around from downstairs to upstairs every day or can I get two crates? Not sure if that would be confusing to the pup. Thanks for any advice.

Crate question. I get my new puppy (Springer Spaniel) on January 4th. Do you recommend getting a crate we will grow into, so I’m not buying multiple crates as he gets older or is getting a larger crate for a puppy to overwhelming?
    Love your videos.

Here’s our question: Outside of bedtime in the grate how many times per day should we grate Tess? And, for how long?

Hello! We are getting a GSD puppy in a few weeks for my birthday and will be enrolling him in training which is obviously going to expose him to many other dogs. I don’t know what to make of the Bordetella vaccine for my young, healthy, and energetic dog that I have now. According to Dr. Ronald Schultz, there’s no effective vaccine for kennel cough and I hear it’s just like us getting a cold and most dogs will recover on their own without getting jabbed. I also heard that young puppies and senior pets are more vulnerable. What are your thoughts? Thanks so much for all you do to make a happier, healthier, and more vibrant life for us and our best friends!! 😊🐾

If the crate is in the family room…. I was told years ago that you should cover top/ sides with a blanket so they aren’t scared/ nervous/ etc about their whole surroundings.
Do you think you should keep that covered 24/7 or what? I feel like this bright shiny room would make him feel uneasy 😬

We are getting our puppy TODAY(!!!) and your videos have been so helpful! I have a question that’s been stressing me out. We live in an apartment (not a high rise so it’s easy to go out) in a suburban residence and I’m wondering can i take puppy out for potty or should I pee pad train him until he is gets his second round of vaccines?? I’m worried that having him go on pee pads is going to make him get into the habit of relieving himself indoors? Or is he too young to even make that connection? Thank you!

Hey Rachel! I was watching your videos on how to get a puppy crate trained and potty training your new puppy. I am currently having an issue with my new puppy and I was hoping you can give me some advice on what to do. We went to pick him up and he ended up peeing and pooping in the crate, and he currently will not go potty outside. I have tried to encourage him when I bring him out by telling him to go potty and it’s potty time, but nothing so far. Is there something I am doing wrong and any advice how to fix this problem?

Lots of tutorials I've watched say not to have bedding in the crate due to chewing it. But wouldn't they settle better with bedding. I don't know what is best to do. Please help me with this question, my pup is now 6 months old.

    • @RachelFusaro
      @RachelFusaro  Год назад +1

In my experience (i've fostered over 60 rescue dogs, most of which were puppies) many dogs do fine with bedding. It just varies by the dog and ive even had some dogs truly enjoy NO bedding! I personally and truthfully hate the idea of leaving my dog on a hard surface, so i use a bed for my pup and she does fine with it!

My puppy doesn't mind sleeping in his crate at all, but when it comes to wanting him to chill in there, he does not want to be in there. Anytime I put treats in there or a toy, he goes in, grabs it and comes straight back out lol. Any advice? Maybe I can try getting him to chill in there when its getting close to nap time

Does anyone have any suggestions for a puppy that has prior negative feelings for crates? I sadly was rather surprised by my pup and wasn’t prepared. I accidentally made her think that the crate is not very fun, and she doesn’t even willingly go into the room it’s in! I’m not sure how to help fix this mistake.

    • @MikaMaiden

Just to share some things in case anyone plans on sharing insight, we are going to be moving the crate into a different room soon, we can’t change the crate, we will be changing foods from what the breeder had (we’re going raw! So hopefully it will be like a never before seen (or eaten) treasure) and I’m at home alllll the time so if the training method takes hours, so be it.

Start out with them in crate for just 1 minute, then 2 minutes, gradually working up longer. Also at first sit next to crate, then don't leave the room, then do chores in the house, then go outside for 1 minute, 2 minutes, then drive around the block.
Never ever let the dog out of the crate while it's whining. You will just train them to whine. Rachel has videos on all this. Watch her videos while sitting next to the crate with your dog in it.

Just found your channel and have been binge watching for over 1 1/2 hours now, was wondering if you have done a video for single puppy owners that work 8 hours a day away from home? I am thinking of getting a cavadoodle at the start of my vacation time (2-3 weeks) so I can get a proper start on training and try and get him/her out of any separation anxiety before I have to go back to work, I know it's not ideal but I miss having a fur baby and I want a friend I can take camping with me......any way was wondering if you had a video on the topic and what's your thoughts on my situation?
Great advice by the way!! Loving what I've watched so far...❤
