- Crystal clear! Subzero temperatures froze a layer of crystal clear, inches-thick ice over an area of Lake Superior in Michigan, giving locals a view of the freezing waters below. #shortsvideo
Truly frightening. If you fall through it would be very difficult to differentiate from ice or open.
Not going to fall through, you can easily see there's plenty of ice.
@@richarddreksler819”if”
@@richarddreksler819Yeah I still wouldn’t try it. Everyday something different or new happens and we call that a “Freak accident” Nope uhuh not me.
@@keiandrewalker5188then don’t lol
Man!😮
They have more trust in that ice than my car when it's on empty
Very Safe Ice. The armchair commentators need to chill, especially if they don't know anything about lake ice.
I've seen people that claim to know something about the ice go through the ice....
@@aircooledpower You may be right, but are you also going to comment on the Swim, Surf, Sail and Kayak videos about the dangers of Drowning? I just feel like there's an unbalanced critique here of natural ice enthusiasts.
Agreed. The ice looked at least 3 to 4 inches thick judging by the cracks, which is enough to safely support an adult human. In addition, the video shows the ice supporting two separate red ice fishing shelters, presumably with people and equipment inside.
You can say that all you want but an "ice enthusiast michigander friend of mine fell through the ice on superior and drowned. Everyone watched through the top of the ice, helpless. In an area where generations of michiganders have played all of their lives. Years later people started playing there again. They are f'ing insane! It's not worth it
How thick does it get when at its thickest?
That sure would make ice fishing easier lol
@user-fe5jg2pm5x I guess the thought is that you could actually SEE the fish- or if there are any to begin with...? 🤷
Easier for the fish maybe...
That’s a NOPE for me!!!😮
Love it when you can see all the way to the bottom
When I was 12 years old, my dad, an ice enthusiast, drove the car with me and my brothers onto the ice in Michigan and i freaked the fuck out!
Dad: oh, stop being a baby!
Me: still freaking the fuck out!
Later, my best friends brother fell through that same ice on a snow mobile and died. I don't care what any of you all say. Be my guest
This happened years ago in the Grand Marais Minn harbor. Very thick, we ice skated on it. Could read newspapers that were on the bottom, 20 feet of water at least. Hugely fun.
I’d be scouting for agates 😂
Wow, it's so beautiful at the moment and It's a once in a lifetime experience! 😰😬😊
More like once year experience?
That's so cool, thanks for sharing
Thats pretty amazing.
That is so cool. Really beautiful.
Now if only Lake Huron and Erie would do that, they just might find Jimmy Hoffa.
That is beautiful
Scary, but beautiful.
Hopefully he goes back the way he came; His odds of getting safely off the Ice diminished with every step he takes.
I'll say there are 5 or 6 inches of ice, from the look and number of the fault lines. SAFE!
@@jonwhidden If it was me, I wouldn't even be next to ice, unless it's in a cup.
I rather be alive than dead, but if people want to venture on the ice, I will be sitting on the sidelines watching the action.
@@jtm726wimp😂 Canadians play hockey on ice like this 💪
Rule number one is always walk off where you walked on.
Looks like a good experience for people that are into adventures collecting experience. Fun!!!!
Love beautiful, mysterious and dangerous Lake Superior!
Beautiful
The commenters don’t realize how cold it gets on Lake Superior. That ice is at least 6 inches thick.
At LEAST! Probably a foot
The ice will freeze clear like this if it cools down and solidifies slow enough to allow any dissolved air to escape the water before it turns to ice. The large bubbles frozen into the ice from underneath are from methane gas that floats up from decaying matter on the bottom.
Absolutely amazing.
wow
Is dat safe to walk on
Recently up in Michigan, Indian lake a boy died and two boys I knew (the whole town knows) got hyperthermia super sad. They were snowmobiling at night on thin ice
How thick is the ice
What part of Superior?
I'm scared see them walk on that ice! Of course, if I were there,I probably would have to check it out
Wow Awesome. 💘 where was this
@Patriotintexas The thickest CLEAR Ice I've been on was about 24 inches, back in 2013 at St. Joseph, Michigan. Miles of perfect ice...
fascinating!
How deep is it where they are walking?
Where is that?
It’s the lake floor, the ice has frozen over and this is the result, pretty amazing, right!!
@Moomyself&I but is it possible to walk across the frozen lake to Canada??
@@realcritical-kr2dd No, Lake Superior never freezes completely over. In the last 70+ years I've only seen it get mostly ice covered twice. In 2015 a whole lot of boats got stuck in the ice, Coast Guard had to use several ice breakers to get them loose. 4 or 5 in one row around Two Harbors, MN.😊
imagine falling into it, 💀
Harmony bay?
People who saw the car
👇
♥️
In the 80s wed fish on Green Bay with our cars ice was 12 or 24 in thick plus was crazy
That's Dangerous!
You Could Fall Through!
They have ice roads out there people drive trucks. Get a life
Best thing to do is to walk on the ice 🧊 with a wet suit on. Just in case you were to fall into that gorgeous yet very cold lake!
Love that
Frozen lake=free fish
And that's how he died
Why you mad get up off your phone go have fun like
Scary, what if it break, but beautiful.
Not one fish in site
You should have arm bands on buddy
The number 9 is significant here.
Its a Michigan thing.
What and you let your little one walk on it too?? Crazy 😮
U do realize people drive trucks on it in the winter there are ice roads. That ice is plenty thick. Usually not that clear
Never saw or knew superior could freeze
In some places huge ice mtns build up it’s pretty cool
This is messing with my fear of heights.
Reminder that you shouldn't walk on ice less than 3 inches thick.
Crazy that they are standing on a liquid killer
😲😲😲😲😲
Neat thing is if you fall through the ice your friends are probably not going to be able to save you.
Cool, or should I say Cold?
jaws all on the floor in lkke
Beautiful but a little terrifying
Why there is no fish?🤔🤔
Lake Superior is such a big lake, fish come scarcely and will normally hang farther off shore down deep. Fishing on this lake is difficult.
i want let me have
Nope
Its all fun and games till you find yourself in over your head and no one around to save you. Careful ice is thin.
It's quite dangerous to go on like superior especially since many ships have been lost there and the fact that it's not only the coldest but the deepest lake of all the Great Lakes. I'd say walking on the ice is a deathwish
Nope! The water only freezes close to shore - not in the area where ships are. This happens every year and you can walk to the caves in the upper areas of Lake Superior. People in Minnesota go ice fishing on Lake Superior during this time each year. Also, As it gets deeper into the season, you can see the most beautiful ice formations as the ice is pushed from the outer edges to the sure and the ice gets deeper, due to the currents. It is the most stunning thing you will ever see.
not too brilliant are we??
They say stupid is what stupid does
What is stupid about this video exactly?
I'd be looking for something man made
If I ran to the middle would it still be frozen
