Oh, there's not singing, this will be fin--
Why would you do this to us?
Why is the one on Spotify different from this one?
can you do its a long long way to ba sing sai but the girls in the city, they look so pretty
Uncle Iroh: I was never angry with you, I was sad, because I was afraid you’d lost your way.
When he hugs Zuko with those words, it was amazing
That scene made me cry my eyes out more than Leaves from the Vine, and that's a hard bar to clear
Fuck, even reading the quote makes me tear up.
that part made me cry 🥺
Bruh why you gotta do me like that?
Three facts about this song.
1)it was makos last piece of voice work before he died.
2) the picture of irohs son is a drawing of how mako looked as a young adult.
3) the person that took over irohs voice after mako died was his student BUT when anyone even Nickelodeon asked if he would sing leaves from the vine he would completely refuse without hesitation because, and I qoute, "That's mako's song..."
Honorable mention: this song was written by a member of makos family about mako.
another thing to add! Mako wasn’t fake crying while singing the song, he was crying because he was dying while recording it (or he was crying because it was about one of him family members,, i’m not sure)
I- m n-not crying, i'm not crying
And theres the comment that opened the flood gates.
Ella W it was about him dying ... unfortunately:(
Im just starting to watch avatar is Mako the man Who voiced Uncle Iroh?

R.I.P. in honor of Mako Iwmatsu, changing the world more than he could ever know! As long as the world can be known in this time I hope everyone in it can watch the avatar at least once and listen to iroh as much as they can. Iroh has much more to tell, but you can listen to that in your elders, just have to find the right ones! I have found the best and they have pointed me in the right direction and I could not ask for any better than what I have now! Life can be a blessing or a curse, you choose!
I dont know but I hope this was his funeral song
(also f for respect I'm sure he was a great guy)
Mako iwamatsu is a legend and I dont care if you have something against that (no hate)
Wait, Mako did not sing it, he was already dead. The song was created for the episode after this event, and performade by the second voice actor of Iroh, Greg Baldwin
"If you look for the light, you can often find it." But if you look for the dark that is all you'll ever see." - Iroh
"Sometimes life is like this dark tunnel, You can't always see the light at the end but if you keep moving you will come to a better place." - Iroh
Too much shit has happened in the nearly last 3 years, for me to realize just how true that statement is. Too many people only look for the darkness in many situations, and it is sometimes scary what they try to do to “solve” that perception.
Aang: “So, Toph thinks you give pretty good advice. And great tea.”
Iroh: “The key to both is proper aging.”
Note proper aging remember folks your gramps or uncle may be old but that doesn't always come with good life lessons
@@infinitymystery21G That just means they didn't age properly
Aang is older than Iroh lol.
@@YawnWoofDog physically yes, but he was in a coma like state for those 100 years. He's still just a boy.
Iroh is far wiser than Aang was during the show.
That is such a clever line
the line “if only i could have helped you” always brings tears to my eyes
Its so sad ... always makes me heartbroken
I have only just found out that iroh actually died and I am so sad I can’t put it into words
The whole thing does for me
If only we could have helped you.. Mako.

R.I.P Mako Iwamatsu, he was the one who originally voiced Uncle Iroh and sang "Leaves From The Vine" before his death from Esophageal Cancer at age 72 21st July 2006. The reason why he was crying was that he was actually dying in real life because he died after the episode "The Tales Of Ba Sing Se" (the episode where he sings "Leaves From The Vine"
Awww man...

The german speaker Hans teuscher died the Same way
so it wasn't actor crying? *_oh my gosh..._*
At the end of Iroh's part when it says, "In honor of Mako", they are referring to Iroh's voice actor. He recorded that song after discovering he was dying from cancer, that's why the song is so powerful and emotional. Rest in Peace Iroh, Lu Ten, and Mako.
Just if you wanted to cry a litttttle more.

We had a conversation in broken English about where I come from and I expressed to him how beatifull his home country was. We smoked some tabacco and I thanked him for his time. I was 22 now 23 and Vietnam was my first trip on my own. Stuff like that makes me want to explore the world more. Let’s be honest I don’t think no one could handle a Uncle Iroh death scene.
At least he got his eternal tea party in the spirit world:,)
i couldnt have handled that
Nope. I know I couldn't. Could hardly handle this 5 minute part of an episode.
That would break space and time itself
It would’ve literally traumatized me as a kid
It’s kinda crazy and a little silly, but I realized, when I recently rewatched atla, how much Zuko’s relationship with his dad and Iroh reminded me of my own relationship between my dad and my stepdad. And it really made me appreciate even more, how much my stepdad has done for me.
I have a twinsister, who’s always been better than me in my father’s eyes. The child that he wanted. While she was academic and “normal”, I had ADD and was creative. He’d praise her for acing tests, but always say stuff to me like “I’ve seen you do better” when showing off a drawing or playing a song on my guitar.. I got older and at one point cut off all connection to him. We do talk now, but now as an adult, I can really see how hollow our relationship is. He has no empathy what so ever and a really bad temper. I may have a bit of temper some times, but I possess a lot of empathy. I tried for YEARS to please him and be more like my sister, but it didn’t make me happy. I wasn’t _me._ And it never really worked anyways.
While my stepdad on the other hand, he has always supported me no matter what. He’s always calm and collected. He’s loving, caring and funny, and has given me advice that I’ll hold on to for the rest of my life. I look up to him so much.
(I do have a great relationship with my twin though! We’re nothing like Azula and Zuko, thank God)
this song made me want to go spend more time with my dad, because no one lives forever
Wow, that is a really nice comment!
Thank you!
I have the same father... I can never do anything right.
@@Champ0204 It can be so hard to feel like you're not living up to people's expectations, especially a parent's. We have an innate want to please them, and have a good relationship with them.
But what I've come to learn as an adult in my 20's, is that almost no one has a great relationship with both their parents. And when a parent can't live up to _your_ expectations, sometimes the best thing you can do, is find someone else who can fill out those expectations. I know my dad will always help when I'm in trouble money wise, and he's always been good at taking us places. But I'll never have deep conversations with him, or emotional support, but I can get that from my stepdad. For my mom it was her uncle, for others it can be a grandparent or a friend. It's hard to make these realizations, but sometimes we just can't change a person, no matter how much we want to. So it's better to find what you need somewhere else so you can be happy.

“Destiny is a funny thing. You never know how things are going to work out. But if you keep an open mind and an open heart, I promise you will find your own destiny.” - Uncle Iroh 😭
It took his son's death to realize something was wrong, not just with him but also the Fire Nation. That power wasn't everything. He traveled the world gaining wisdom and understanding from all the other elements. Learned a great deal and found the answers he was searching for and a greater philosophy to live life. The character development for uncle Iroh was perfect. Even at 31 yrs old, this song still hits me deep in the feels. He taught me that power isn't everything, but rather a freah cup of hot tea with a stranger/friend/family was what brought meaning to life more than anything else. And as a father to be soon, I can only imagine what losing a child feels like. Uncle Iroh may be a fictional character but he was real to me in my heart.

This show was truly a game changer I remember how much I loved it as a kid and even though it’s one of the most popular kids shows in nikolodeon history and now it wasn’t well known where I lived it was pretty much just me and my sisters but we eventually got all our friends to love it I remember for my sisters eleventh birthday she had an avatar themed party and we all dressed up as characters from the show she was aang of course,we made own costumes and everything it was amazing.Ill never forget the feeling of watching the very last episode and how excited we were it was all the feels (Zuko was so peng to ten yr old me) (honestly still is) Everyone banded together looked amazing blended amazing and it has such a satisfying and perfect end just an all around pretty flawless show I honestly don’t think I’ve ever come across such a pure and wholesome fan base as the avatar one I think we all just grew up with this show and it’s just so close to our hearts and memories of the most criticism part of ur life being a messy, happy, annoying kid who sometimes felt like the odds were stacked against them but avatar just rlly gave me a sense of hope and belief that even kids can be brave and have power and strength and that we all have something different to bring to the table every single episode and character was captivating and original no chliche no boring storyline just originality and and thought. And at the same time I’m glad the show is getting a resurgence of fans and attention I truly hope it doesn’t just become a trend and then get forgotten and pushed to the side again. So after that rant all I have to say is it’s been an honour a privilege and some of the best times of my life packed into a seemingly meaningless kids show to some good luck my fellow benders (and non) and all those to come I hope you enjoy it as much as I have, ~flamio hot man!~

He wasn’t able to save his son but he was able to save the person he treated like one.
actually, the true story is, that is a picture of the voice actors (or Mako as we should call him) younger self. he was singing about his younger self. I've heard he was a soldier when he was younger. I've also heard he was singing the song alone in an empty room after he told the team he was going to die, he was caught and they recorded it. they added it as a "memorial" for him into the show. I find it quite disrespectful. then they kinda just replace him... and then are done with the matter. that's why he doesn't talk for 2 episodes. they were looking for another voice actor. that's also why he sounds a lil different in season 3.
RandomStuffs the thing is people ask the new voice actor to sing this some but he refuses in respect of mako soooooo yeah

The picture that Iroh uses to mourn his son, is actually what Iroh's voice actor would've looked like at that age. That means that Iroh's voice actor, Makoto Iwamatsu or known as Mako, is forever honored in Avatar: The Last Airbender. Also, the voice actor who took over the role of Iroh refuses to sing "Leaves from the Vine" at all because it's Iwamatsu's song.
He is also honored in tlok by one of the characters named mako
Also this was Makos final recording of his voice before he died. He passed from throat cancer.

“Of course it’s happening inside your head Harry, but why on earth does that mean it isn’t real?” - Dumbledore to Harry in the Deathly Hallows. Iroh’s tale exists in our hearts and minds, and if he has impacted your life in any way, then I’d like to believe he very much exists. Just sharing my two cents :)
Cause mako, the original voice actor died from cancer before this episode aired a few months later. He knew he had it when he recorded and those who worked around him noted his personal pain and sadness when recording it.
You can hear the man knowing he is near his own end saying goodbye to all of us... Not just the character to his son.
This is why the second voice actor for iroh refuses to perform the song out of great respect
I have a lot of alters from this show ahaha I have DID. But I think it’s Iroh, Sakka, Katara, Aang, Toph, Zuko. That’s it I think maybe someone else but I can’t seem to see them right now so yeah. A lot.
@@livrowbo5775 Be sure to let Iroh know that even though he's a fictive, he's an inspiration and a blessing to this world, if you can 💗
I once took some acid at a party and was left alone in the living room. ATLA was on the TV and it was this episode and a few other iroh heavy episodes. I’ve never had a more profound and real look into myself since.
When you realize we can never get the full version sing by Iroh because Mako died.
That is the full version it’s what he sang from when he was in Military
*”While it is always best to believe in oneself, a little help from others can be a great blessing.”*
I forgot this quote and really needed to hear it right now. Thanks for reminding me of the wisdom this show had given us.
Why does it feel like he was actually our grandfather, how did they do that 😭
Because everyone needs an Uncle Iroh in their life and he was willing to fill that role for us. Always giving advice, encouraging Zuko an inadvertently Us,so many people mourned Mako's death because whether we knew him or not...he WAS our grandfather.
@@kelseybordeaux9206 yes true everybody need that's person in there life
The people who you love have manny times sad storys. And they learn throm them so that he/she can tell the story and wisdom from it
why is this so true ^^^
I never knew my grandfathers, but I'd want Iroh to be mine :(
freestyling to this about pasted loved ones literally gets me crying so good. Its crazy how that little guitar riff is SO EMOTIONAL
Iroh is wise beyond compare to anyone
RIP Mako
It's crazy how an animated character can become a real person to so many of us
Rest In Paradise Mako
We love you fam
This is in my opinion the saddest lofi remix you have ever done l.dre.... still this is a 10/10 masterpiece
Agreed thank you !
You commented on the Aang and katara version too right?
SAME 😭😭😭😭
I think the scene he has with aunt wu is even more sad. It seem like such a light hearted conversation about meeting love but is changed when he says. “At my age there’s really only one big surprise left, and I just as soon leave it a mystery”. Foreshadowing his death :*(
For some reason this gives me nostalgia
Imagine if Iroh was your teacher in school? You’d learn so much every single day.
If only, that'd be amazing
I would actually enjoy school! Also I feel like the world would just be so much better off if Iroh was an educator
Id prolly have to get the mans contact information before i graduate lmao
If Iroh was my teacher, my attendance at school would increase at an extreme rate.
finally a class i'd need in the future, take that 6th grade chemistry

Uncle Iroh is that uncle will all need🥺
Iroh wasn't afraid of the war but afraid of losing Zuko
Rip Uncle Iroh, This show was my whole childhood really wish i could go back to then.....
Same
L.Dre for real
It’s on Netflix now you could go and rewatch it
I mean kinda yeah but back then when I watched the show I didn’t understand the deeper meanings of what the story is trying to tell. I was like 8 tho so maybe I was just dumb lol. Now it’s like I’m watching a whole different show.
"Sometimes life is like a dark tunnel. You can't always see the light at the end of the tunnel. But if you just keep moving you will come to a better place."
sometimes you just gotta re-binge Avatar: The Last Airbender because life has lost all meaning and Uncle Iroh is the only one who can console you
I've been crying a lot, mostly because I'm suffering from a very severe clinical depression and I just typed an entire paragraph about why I don't want people to remember me, but that statement you made, my good friend, that made me cry more.
I hope both you start feeling better soon
man, life's life. if it's sad, it's sad. but that doesn't mean it can't be good sometime soon. Keeping positive ain't the way to be happy, being you is the way to be happy. if you wanna binge uncle iroh, you do that, because that's what you wanna do, and that's the path. - stoner wisdom
Literally just got finished doing that.
Just finished doing this. Man it's one of the best thing i've done in this pandemic

Being that I’m enlisting, this hits 10 times harder than it did before.

"GOOD TIMES BECOME GOOD MEMORIES, BUT BAD TIMES MAKE GOOD LESSONS." - Uncle Iroh
THEY DIDN’T NEED TO MAKE THE ANIMATION CRY TOO 😭
Crazy how they got us to feel for Iroh's son and we only see him as a picture.
The episode was in honor of irohs voice actor named mako. He died of cancer and this was the final voice clip he recorded. Irohs son was named after his voice actor.
@@ulterrasvenawk2064 iroh's son name is lu ten.
Alterra's Business Account He wasn’t named after the voice after, but he was drawn to look like the voice actor when he was younger since Mako was actually in the military.
Alterra's Business Account wAit so he had a different voice actor in book 3?
Iroh's son appeared in a flashback as a child, and in one of Zuko's early memories with his uncle Lu Ten was there. The picture is the only thing we get to seeing Lu Ten as an adult on the show, but I saw somewhere there was supposed to be a comic regarding the Fire Nation royal family if it's not out already
He's literally the greatest uncle ever 💪🏿🧘🏿♂️

Uncle Iroh was the dad we all wanted, the fire lord was the dad too many of us got 😞🥀

aint that some truth, can relate unfortunately.
my dad is an uncle iroh to me.
