It really brings of the perspective of the saying “play stupid games when stupid prizes” People should do this as a challenge it’s called the common sense challenge.
Long before the internet, a teenager died when trying to mimmick a scene from the football movie The Program. Disney ended up removing the scene where football players laid down in the road while cars whizzed past. It wasn't a "viral challenge" in 1993 but if that movie came out 25 years later it likely could have been.
To blame the ice bucket challenge for someone jumping into a quarry and drowning is a pretty ridiculous stretch. What exactly does one thing have to do with the other?
If he jumped in right after dumping all the ice cold water on himself. Then jump into warm water can cause the body to go into shock. This can cause sudden inhaling. So he could have sucked in a bunch of water and drowned or it could cause muscle issues that prevented him from swimming. I know this for my personal experience but it was a little different. I went from a very hot hot tub and jumped into a cold pool. My body locked up and I inhaled water. If not for my sister and her friend being there and getting me out of the water as quick as they did I'll probably be dead too. I was 12 when this happened at a hotel.

how about don't listen to your friends who pressure you into doing something you don't want to do such as harmful challenges it's just sad for the people passed on😭
As a kid growing up the “ blackout challenge “ used to be called California high … I remember kids doing it then it lead to one girl I know having a seizure😥 I hope these kids aren’t still doing this
The best way to keep your kids safe is to always talk to them about the dangers. Keep the communication open and make sure your child can come to you with any problem or concern.
Seriously? In the 60s we were warned about running out into the street between parked cars, licking frozen lampposts, taking candy from strangers and that's about it. If a kid is inherently dumb there's no way to protect it from everything on the planet.
I tried the 2022 one it gave me a stomach ache and an extra trip to the store to buy milk. I think the problem with this year is they made a hotter chip than last year? Or it could be something with the combination of the two peppers because that changes every year.
I never cared about trends even as a kid, whether music, clothing, and certainly not dangerous stunts and behavior. Educate your kids as much as possible, even on things you would consider common sense...because others out there may teach them to do otherwise.
👏👏👏 Remember when our parents used to ask us "if your friends jumped off a bridge would you do it to?" IE: Don't be stupid, think next time. This generation didn't get enough of that.
I still don’t understand why people want to go viral for assistance ng someone, and essentially confirming your guilt before you even enter a courtroom.
Here's a challenge, during your waking hours drink a cup of water every hour. See how many days you can do that. Go to school every day that is scheduled. See how many days you can do that. Find out what community service is available in your town and do it once a month. See how many months in a row you can do that. These are fun challenges and should be blasted on TT.
the blackout challenge has existed since long before social media/viral challenges. when i was in middle school it was just a game we played at sleepovers - you would literally choke yourself until you blacked out. i remember doing it once in a friend's closet (luckily that meant lots of clothing to cushion my fall when i passed out), seeing stars and then having a very brief "dream" before coming to on the floor. that was scary enough that i never did it again.
The Happy Slapping challenge was called the knockout game in NYC. The rule was to knock out a person with just one punch. there was nothing happy about that challenge.
The saying "you can't fix stupid" is very true in some cases, imo. I feel bad for the extremely young ones because they didn't know what they were getting into.
In the early 2000s I used to talk to kids about doing stupid stunts and challenges, giving in to peer pressure and how to use common sense... while it did feel good when you could see you got through to somebody, out of a group of 20 that was maybe one kid and the other 19 just looked at me like I was a stupid old man who didn't know what "cool" meant.
@@Spiritualthanos87 I agree with her statement, with the exception of the children. Children are very impressionable, and their brains are not fully developed yet. This is especially with the ability to rationalize and be aware of dangerous behaviors. As for the adults and even the older teenagers to an extent, it's a case of play stupid games, win stupid prizes and I don't feel the least bit sorry for them. I do feel bad for their families and friends that are left to deal the aftermath of their stupidity.
I feel no pity for adults who die doing this but when they get their kids involved it's at best willful ignorance and probably depraved indifference which is legally murder in most states. You need a license to fish but not to have kids?
The blackout challenge was going on wayyy before the internet was a thing, I remember a foster sister and her friends would hyperventilate and then choke themselves, hoping to pass out
Yep i remember at school one day my friends and i trying it. I was around 9 yrs old so probably 1993. I realised how ridiculous it was after lol. It's different when you're a kid, to adults or young adults that know the risks but still do it for the internet
Lol because older generations never did stupid stuff 🙄. Just because the internet wasn't around doesn't mean kids were all innocent and never doing dangerous stuff prior.
"It's so hot, some people used gloves to protect their skin". YET, they put that chip in their mouth, which goes down their throat, into their esophagus, and into their stomach. Places that much more sensitive to spices than the fingers. Yeah, OK. Makes perfect sense.
Social media apps should have an algorithm system to remove trending challenges that may cause harm to others who participate in it. With the advance of technology that we have right now that can certainly be done in some way.
How is “Happy Slapping” even supposed to be a prank? It’s literally assaulting a stranger and then saying “haha just kidding!!!” Hope the families of the people killed by those selfish people are living easy
The Blackout challenge has been around for decades since the 70's. I was a participant in it. After the camara phone was invented, people have come up with very dangerous stunts, challenges and pranks. Peer pressure is one of the reasons people are getting hurt or dying. Especially with the challenges. They say the brain doesn't develop until age 25.
I look into friendly trends that have nothing to do with the chances of death. These ideas were probably created by creeps that made up about these challenges, without looking at the consequences of their quote/unquote “trends”
Goes to show that if a new trend pops up, you could consider the risks BEFORE participating. If the risks prove to be unsafe or deadly, dont do it. Some of these so-called "trends" aren't trends, they're death sentences
@@mattalan6618 Very true. I remember trying to be like the kids from Rocket Power (Show where kids do extreme stunts with skateboarding, surfing etc). I almost lost one of my teeth when one of my skateboard ''tricks'' went wrong. Thank god I landed on the grass and not on the concrete!

Long before the internet, a teenager died when trying to mimmick a scene from the football movie The Program. Disney ended up removing the scene where football players laid down in the road while cars whizzed past.
It wasn't a "viral challenge" in 1993 but if that movie came out 25 years later it likely could have been.
Hol' up... What?!!
This just shows that having common sense is now a challenge because who thinks any of these are a good idea
Common sense went the way of the dodo, unfortunately.
I honestly wouldn't feel sympathy for such incompetent and stupidity
Seriously the Benadryl challenge? I’m surprised they didn’t try a cocaine challenge.
To blame the ice bucket challenge for someone jumping into a quarry and drowning is a pretty ridiculous stretch. What exactly does one thing have to do with the other?
I came straight to the comments to see if I was the only person who was thinking that!! Thank you for confirming I’m not crazy!!
@@williambennett389good explanation. Makes sense
@86kera thanks.
exactly.
How to avoid deaths from these challenges: DON'T DO THESE CHALLENGES! It's really that simple
A moment of silence for Timothy Ferguson who is his mother Shanda Vander ark vander ark killed and the only thing she fed him and starved him to death with the same pepper in that one chip challenge
That one chip challenge nearly killed my little brother. His internal organs started shutting down from it and he wrecked his truck a block from his house. Broken back, leg, ankle, hip. He’s lucky to be alive.
Just because something is Popular doesn't mean you should do it. 🙅🏿♂️🙅🏻♀️
In the famous words of the character Ian Malcolm from Jurassic Park: "They were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should."
I don't want to live on this planet anymore
We are talking about a generation of people who can’t read and listen to basic common sense.
Even that nasty tide pod challenge...and the infamous drinking a bleach challenge
*Sigh* why those people are so
Dumb
Ya like this new fad of changing sex for example. Or identifying as something other than human. Unfortunately stupid out numbers the rest of us 😢
how about don't listen to your friends who pressure you into doing something you don't want to do such as harmful challenges it's just sad for the people passed on😭
Social media is so toxic and dangerous, I challenge people to prove otherwise.
Unfortunately, people often forget that in reality, some children out there have emotionally absent parents.
It's difficult to foresee these things coming, it's not usual so!etching that would come up.
@@aaronwolk998 yes that's true....but what I said is still true.
That word needs to be passed on.
Seriously? In the 60s we were warned about running out into the street between parked cars, licking frozen lampposts, taking candy from strangers and that's about it. If a kid is inherently dumb there's no way to protect it from everything on the planet.
Some call it tragic, I call it evolution

Devolution ...

My boss dared me to do the One Chip Challenge and ridiculed me when I refused.
I would've told him to eat elephant shit. 😂
I tried the 2022 one it gave me a stomach ache and an extra trip to the store to buy milk. I think the problem with this year is they made a hotter chip than last year? Or it could be something with the combination of the two peppers because that changes every year.
Wha happun next?...
Oh well. Your stomach thanks you.
I was a child and i would have NEVER done any of these things! And as an adult..Kids should not be allowed on social media!
It's clear that common sense isn't common anymore. Why do people think these "Challenges" are a good idea?
I never cared about trends even as a kid, whether music, clothing, and certainly not dangerous stunts and behavior. Educate your kids as much as possible, even on things you would consider common sense...because others out there may teach them to do otherwise.
👏👏👏
Remember when our parents used to ask us "if your friends jumped off a bridge would you do it to?"
IE: Don't be stupid, think next time.
This generation didn't get enough of that.
Survival of the fittest!
Happy Slappy 😂 also known as assault
I still don’t understand why people want to go viral for assistance ng someone, and essentially confirming your guilt before you even enter a courtroom.
I’m surprised the cinnamon challenge wasn’t listed.
I'm really surprised the milk crate challenge isn't on this list. That one is a major killer.
Beating someone to death for content is just... wow.
I remember watching an episode of Rescue 911, where a girl went car surfing, she fell under the car, and got her leg stuck up in the engine.
Omg I remember that!! It scared the crap out of me lol
Yes!
How is she?
@@colleenross8752 From what the end of the episode said she recovered. Several skin graft operations from a 4th degree burn.
Oh man I remember when we were in high-school the black out challenge, was shut down very quickly
That's a great video to show in every middle school and high school class rooms around the country
the blackout challenge has existed since long before social media/viral challenges. when i was in middle school it was just a game we played at sleepovers - you would literally choke yourself until you blacked out. i remember doing it once in a friend's closet (luckily that meant lots of clothing to cushion my fall when i passed out), seeing stars and then having a very brief "dream" before coming to on the floor. that was scary enough that i never did it again.
ohmygad. so sad that, that's what's the norm u grew up with.
NEVER have i ever heard of this.
I did this too with my friends about 30yrs ago. It was done with a friend pushing on your chest. You black out for less then 1 min
The Happy Slapping challenge was called the knockout game in NYC. The rule was to knock out a person with just one punch. there was nothing happy about that challenge.
They're ( blacks) still doing it ( to whites ).
My mom my whole life; "if the crowd jumps off a bridge, are you going to follow?"
Tiktok challenges; "hold my beer."
More like drink a case of beer! 😂😂😂😂😂
If trends like this continue, the problem will take care of itself.
Education is the number one tool to prevent deaths by stupidity.
Sometimes stupid is what stupid does
The saying "you can't fix stupid" is very true in some cases, imo.
I feel next to no sadness for the people who do a lot these dangerous/really dumb "challenges"
Not even the children ?
its their parents fault @@Spiritualthanos87
@@Spiritualthanos87 I agree with her statement, with the exception of the children. Children are very impressionable, and their brains are not fully developed yet. This is especially with the ability to rationalize and be aware of dangerous behaviors. As for the adults and even the older teenagers to an extent, it's a case of play stupid games, win stupid prizes and I don't feel the least bit sorry for them. I do feel bad for their families and friends that are left to deal the aftermath of their stupidity.
@@Spiritualthanos87 i agree with the op i have no remorse for anyone that does stupid things like this child or not use ur brain
or just having parents to keep an eye on what their kids watch on internet@@anthonydigironimo5371
Social media once again overrides common sense.
"Julia Jillard" 😂
Close, its Julia Gill-lard (as in like a fish's gills)
Thank you for posting.
2020 Viral Challenge: How many shopping cart handles can you lick in one minute?
0.
Fn ew yuck! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I feel no pity for adults who die doing this but when they get their kids involved it's at best willful ignorance and probably depraved indifference which is legally murder in most states. You need a license to fish but not to have kids?
“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.”
- Albert Einstein
If you do something stupid knowing it could easily kill you then the fault is all on you, not anyone else. Common sense is sadly uncommon nowadays.
9:35 the movie choking game came literally came from this from like the early 2000s
@@xtina6569dumb kid.
This shows just how stupid our younger generations have become and what happens when they are raised without being told No and being spoiled.
most of theses challenges is to
one up on each other
these kids are just ..
😧
Lol because older generations never did stupid stuff 🙄. Just because the internet wasn't around doesn't mean kids were all innocent and never doing dangerous stuff prior.
They were stupid at birth. Some are around age 40 and never stopped being stupid.
It's crazy how I didn't die from the blackout challenge as I tried it multiple times as a teenager in the 90s
I can't lie, I tried that stupid **** too🤦🏾♀️. Granted it was a little different ... but I'm glad I'm still here none the less
Same here
Tik tok: Hey, you should drink boiling water as a challenge!
People with no common sense: Whoa, that’s so awesome!!
I got one.... Don't DO DUMB ISH Challenge!
This is top tier natural selection in action😂👌
Car surfing is old enough that we did it in high school in the 80's! So popular that Michael J. Fox did it in Teen Wolf
The one chip challenge is way off. I saw on another news article that the guy ate 14 of those chips. It wasn’t just one chip that killed him.
Planking isn't inherently dangerous either, till it's taken to extreme.
🤣😂🤣It's Funnyyyy...! How the that talking can't say Julia gaillard he said Gillad! 🤣😅😂🤣
Goes to show that if a new trend pops up, you could consider the risks BEFORE participating. If the risks prove to be unsafe or deadly, dont do it. Some of these so-called "trends" aren't trends, they're death sentences
This is why you shouldn’t follow any social media influencers.
I still laugh at the word 'influencer' lol. Life was good before all of that crap.
as a kid i wanted to follow every trend out there. now that im near my 40s im ok being where im at and letting society weed out the idiots
Why did you want to follow all the trends? I don't get this mindset, I was never like that, never understood the appeal
@@stefanycarrasco6245 well cause kids want to do everything
@@mattalan6618 Very true. I remember trying to be like the kids from Rocket Power (Show where kids do extreme stunts with skateboarding, surfing etc). I almost lost one of my teeth when one of my skateboard ''tricks'' went wrong. Thank god I landed on the grass and not on the concrete!
It's not a matter of nature weeding out the idiots cuz a lot of these were kids. There's also a responsibility for us adults to nurture the idiocy out of the kids (gently) and the stupid adults (not so gently).
I'm 30+ and I can barely handle 1 Benedryl. Why some take so many I'd never understand.
