As a 72 year old man who served his country, is still married to my best friend, put 2 kids thru college…as a factory worker, I have experienced a lot in my lifetime. I found the President’s speech as not only weird but unhinged and thoroughly disingenuous. It was angry to all and scolding to half of the country. He is the great divider, not the uniter he promised to be. His view of the current state of affairs is laughable. As Sen. Britt gave the rebuttal she brought me to tears as I looked on my living room wall at a recent photo of my wife, daughter and 3 granddaughters. I fear for them in this world of lawlessness. The criminals and terrorists are gaining the upper hand in this country and abroad at an unprecedented pace…Biden’s answer is to take away our means of protecting them. VIOLENCE and death is Biden’s legacy, both here on our streets and in the multiple wars he has us involved in since he took office.

I get upset first at politicians that obfuscate and misinform, then I get upset at those who don't fact check. During her speech she mentioned a story about going to Del Rio and "spoke to a woman who shared her story" about being sex trafficked at the age of 12, then IN that speech goes on to absolutely imply that this had happened during the current administration. And that's a lie.
Just listening to her talk about it made me wonder, who was this (as she described her) woman? If it happened beginning at the age of 12, how long ago was that, in what country did it happen? Delve deeper, folks, but here's the facts; she's talking about Karla Jacinto Romero, an acknowledged survivor of human sex trafficking. She had testified in Congress back in 2015 regarding her experience being trafficked between 2004 and 2008, within the borders of Mexico, NOT the US.
Face it, much of the speech was riddled with hyperbolic spin of a reality that has existed for decades ACTUALLY at our borders, and no doubt US policy on drugs and guns does much to feed the drug cartels on the other side of the border, even more than immigration policy. Still if what is happening at the border is truly a current "let's fix it now" concern then how do you excuse refusing to pass new immigration law that the people who defend our border today WANT PASSED? Either it's an acute issue that needs reform now, or it's no big deal we can wait another year since it makes good fodder for politicization. So which is it?
I do NOT minimize the trauma this woman endured, any more than I ignore how US policy enriches the cartels that committed the actual atrocities she experienced. But I rail against how, over and over, Republicans hide the reality from voters and instead just straight up lie rather than deal with what the facts are on the ground. Care about the country instead of your party for a change. Deal with reality that best serves Americans rather than playing a political game that hides the facts since they don't aid your lust for power.

Inflation is down to 2.3%, yet corporate greed have groceries unsustainable for many people. I know a person who budgets very well that is struggling with a 92k annual income. Almost half of his gross pay is taken in federal taxes, state taxes, and local taxes. By the time he factored in mortgage, car insurance (he doesn't have a car note...he paid it off as quickly as he could to reduce his debt), utilities, food, and other necessities, he is left with just enough to buy something extra for himself. I will say he has a robust savings and putting a lot way in his 401k, but making that kind of money and getting by is ridiculous. She is worried? Well, what comprehensive laws are you making that are going to help the American people. This grievance politics and culture war means nothing if we don't work together for the common good. What happened to the moderates?! 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️

Inflation is up almost 20% since Biden took office, groceries are up 25% and gas is up 30%. February 24 inflation number was 2.5% which is down but all of the months of high inflation is cumulative and really adds up. Real wages are down 2.4% since Biden took office.
On top of that do you think Biden adding 10 million uneducated illegal migrants will help to increase wages? No, it will stagnate wages for lower end workers is what it will do.
The 2 trillion dollar inflation reduction act was a farce and only contributed to higher inflation and gave kickbacks for climate change initiatives to Biden's friends.

While she is talking about her kitchen table, I am thinking of all the people I have the privilege of working with that don’t even have a kitchen, let alone a table. This country has problems alright, greed and apathy are two of them. That cross she wears is supposed to represent a faith where loving your neighbor is the second highest commandment after loving the Lord. Where feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and the prisoner is akin to doing those same things for that Lord. I don’t hear too many in her party talking about walking out their faith in the same sacrificial way as the Savior they claim to follow. We need a whole lot less hate and fear mongering, and a whole lot more love and caring in this nation of ours if we want to turn things around.
I agree with most of what you said. However, we need to use discernment and wisdom. It is NOT wise to allow people from countries hostile to the United States to just saunter through our borders. Yes, we do and have always been a beacon of hope and the Light of Christ, "a Light shining on a hill". However, we can't be that hope for the hurting people who want to start fresh in America if we are destroyed by short-sighted immigration policies.

If that is your family history, you live on stolen land, in a country that was partially built by stolen people. I find a lot in the Bible about loving people. I find very little about “discernment”, which is just another word for judging people and then denying them helped based on that judgement. How does that weigh against the Sermon on the Mount?

@@ElizabethHeadid Many of the immigration problems today have been around for at least 50 years or more. And like just like clockwork, the repubs bring it up every election cycle. You need to look up how the Russians have been caught recently fomenting the border crisis by pushing false narratives about immigrants and civil war on the internet. They were caught spreading fake outrage on several of the trucker group social media pages that organized the big trucker convoy that went to the border. They are also behind this latest talk about Texas seceding from the Union. They were behind it the last time too. In 2016, Russians successfully started an anti-Muslim protest in Houston, then started a counter protest which culminated in violent physical fights between the two groups. Several were arrested and some were hospitalized. Look that one up, too. Anything bad for America is good for Russia. Your right wing candidates and news media talk about ALL immigrants as if they were wild animals of some sort that need to be trapped, caged and relocated. The only way Civil war will be started in this country is if it's over race. And Russia is doing everything they can to make that happen.
