She is such a powerhouse. I know it is a lot of work to operate steam locomotives, but they breathe power and speed. This is real railroading for me.thx for the fantastic upload 👍
Had the chance as a kid growing up in Birmingham to visit the shops in Irondale with my father, he had friends that worked there and during quite a few visits got to see the 1218 and 611 being restored. Thought that was the coolest thing in the world to see I wish for the chance that 1218 will be rebuilt again to run along with 611, she was very impressive to see under steam
DO You Have Rails TO Roanoke With The 611 And 1218 Maybe You Could Upload That Sometime Soon OR Next UP I Toured The 1218 When I Was IN The Roanoke Transportation Museum
This was recorded between 1987 and her end of service in 1991. Most recordings were made in VHS or the new Sony 8mm videotape. The equipment was early technology and the optics were early technology as well. A good Sony 8mm had 8x zoom and a $1,500.00 price tag. The 35 years of video deterioration and drop-off does take its toll. I find the video and the audio to be better than anyone could hope for.

First time seeing this thanks for posting 👍
i was wondering why this was familiar. this was taken from extreme steam vol. 2. i have the dvd of this and its in pristine quality.
That’s not what this is from. I have no idea what that is
@@RustyDreamsGarage then it’s really weird then because this is the exact same footage.
Not sure what to tell you. This is an old Video Rails production tape.
Hope you can upload the pentrex footage of n&w611 from 1989
Check my other videos. I have one from that time frame uploaded
@@RustyDreamsGarage oh awesome! Any more in particular I should look for ?
MALET .
No. Mallet is a compound locomotive. The N&W 1218 is a simple articulated.
Sonetimes, 1218 comes back
Audio and video not very good.....
Looks and sounds good on my end
It was recorded in the 80s I think. Not too much better expected if at all. Good for what they had.
It's damn good for how old it is
