    That was superb!
    Could smell the steam!
    Thank you for sharing, I have only just discovered this video, Harry 👌🏼 In fact I’m finding quite a few I Have missed 👍

      You don't want to spend too much time watching them, from time to time I look at the older ones and wonder if I should take them down. 8 years worth of video is heavy going!

      Well I hope you don’t take them down but that’s up to nobody but you 😮
      I think it’s great to have a video journal that others tune in to and enjoy too 👍
      I’ll keep trying to catch up !
      I’d like you to know that this is one person who is happy to be able to sit back and get lost in vignettes like yours, while caring for a sick partner every day.
      All I can say is keep filming if at all possible!!
      We appreciate it 👌🏼👋🏻😘

      Thank you, I intend to keep sharing videos, I will need to sort out some internet access when I am in France, I can post photo's to FB from there, but videos tend to take too long. It does please me that other folk watch my nonsense, every now and then I post stuff that I think is more meaningful. My dad was a cine film chap, I remember how, after a holiday, and once the developed film had come back, we would allow neighbours in to watch. (The following day, my mum would complain about the curtains stinking of tobacco!) I also try to encourage others to show bits of 'their world'. What is important to you, and what makes you smile. There are enough 'what makes me angry' videos on YT, but, if it gets it off your chest, go for it!

      harryfaber 👍🧡
      😊 My favourite aunt and uncle used to show their holiday cine films too, I loved them all!
      My mum was an usherette at a cinema in Leigh on Sea and I used to go to work with her in the school hols. I loved going into the Projection Room and watching the cool projectionist go about his work. He was a good man and put up with all my many questions!
      They demolished the cinema a few years back and I walked by just as the silver screen was visible through the wreckage. It was a frisson making moment 💖
      The tobacco smell in your Mum’s curtains made me laugh! 😄

      Dad used to make one reel of film cover a fortnight's holiday, so they all tended to be 2 seconds of one thing and 2 seconds of the next, and they had to be sent away for processing. Dad smoked '555 State Express'. (I think he liked the tins they came in, he used them to keep drills in.) Uncle Sid next door, I think he was a 'Players Navy Cut' man. My granddad smoked a pipe, and for Xmas, he would be bought a tin of 3 Nuns. I rather regret the joke I told now, our vicar used to smoke a pipe. I said 'I suppose you like three nuns, ready rubbed'. How many Hail Marys can you get?

    Good morning Harry, up before the crack of dawn. A beautiful sunrise, thanks for bringing us along. It's not every day you see a steam engine, rolling down the line.Have a great day.

    First! Smokey Joe's Café! Nice to see a steam loco underway. Thanks for sticking around on the platform all that time.

      And working hard, too often they sort of drift along on a preserved railway, but she was being pressed to make up time.

    Interesting video Harry. You patience paid off. Can't beat seeing a steamer coming through. I don't like steam trains being pulled by diesels, but what must be must be eh. Also 1/8th of Lincolnshire is below sea level at high tide. And, you have posh regular trains there, no electric here yet....but, I like that.

      The diesel is a classic too, an old 47.

      It was a pleasure to be there to see it. We don't get many of these along the line.

    The black 5 looked nice with those maroon coaches in the end, but the chocolate and cream coaches bothered me a little bit. But that's just because I like having all the coaches in my rake matching and facing the same way.

      They seem to use what they can get for these trains. Always good to see them.

    Unusual configuration with the Class 47 at the front with the steam loco (was that a Black 5?) Normally the diesel is at the other end, ready for the return journey since there are not many facilities for running round nor turntables to turn a steam loco.

    • @harryfaber
      @harryfaber  6 лет назад

      Yes, a Black 5, with the 47 tucked 'inside'. I don't know the whys and wherefores of that, whether the Black 5 has TPWS or not, I really don't know, but it made the locomotive work!

    I’m sure when I was about 4 years old living in Benfleet I rode on a steam train on that line, that would be about 57 years ago, or am I just dreaming.

    • @harryfaber

      Steam until 1962. I also recall steam at Tilbury Riverside and Rainham.

  • @Daledavispratt

    Very nice! What vintage would that old steamer be?

    • @harryfaber
      @harryfaber  7 лет назад

      That locomotive was built in 1937, and the diesel is from the 1960s or 70s.

  • @TheShadeTreeFixitMan

    So why wasn't the steam engine in the front instead of behind a diesel engine?

  • @TheShadeTreeFixitMan
    @TheShadeTreeFixitMan 7 лет назад

    Ah, I spoke too soon obviously... How come it didn't stop at your station?

      It was chartered to pick up passengers at Southend East, the passengers get a meal en route, and they do pay a very handsome price for the trip.

    Nice video, Harry, many thanks. Are you a local Benfleet lad (accent)?

      I was born in Rainham, a week or two ago, and have slowly moved along the A13 to Leigh on Sea. That is an average of about a mile every 2 years.
