  • 2012 marks the 10th Anniversary year since the Chatham Historic Dockyard first held the 'Medway Festival of Transport'. This year's event was held on Easter Sunday 8th and Monday 9th April and it had a special guest locomotive in the form of 'Andrew Barclay' 0-4-0ST No.8 "Victory" which was a former Dockyard Loco. "Victory" had only just returned to steam following overhaul at the Colne Valley Railway. It joined the Dockyard's other three resident steam and one resident diesel locomotives in demonstrations around the site.
Also at the festival were several Traction-Engines and Steam-Rollers both full-size and minitautre. Several Buses and Vintage Lorries were also on display as well as classic cars. Finally, two steam ships were present in the form of Clyde Puffer VIC 56 and Paddle Steamer "Kingswear Castle" which provided short trips on the River Medway.
This footage is from Sunday 8th April 2012.
    Attractions included...
    - 'Andrew Barclay' 0-4-0ST No.8 "Victory" (fresh from overhaul and visiting from the Colne Valley Railway)
    - 'Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn' 0-4-0ST "Ajax"
    - 'Peckett' 0-4-0ST No.1903
    - 'Aveling & Porter' 0-4-0 "Sydenham"
    - 'Planet' 0-4-0 "Rotchester Castle"
    - Traction-Engines (full-size and miniature)
    - Steam-Rollers
    - Buses

00:13:43 - “The ghost statue” said Matt Mouse and Plucky Duck. They raced away is fast as their legs and feet will carry them.
“Ha ha ha. You were probably just dreaming, Matt Mouse” said Sylvester Jr. “didn’t you to find yourself making me quick?”
“Mr Cat I was awake” said Matt Mouse, “I just saw a statue shaped like a hand and it blew steam at me.”

I'm sorry to hear you've been poorly. Good luck with Lizzie. I look forward to seeing that. I won't get to see Lizzie until August 2012. Get well soon. I'm planning to film Clan Line, Britannia twice and Ollie this week so look out for those. Barry

Hi Barry. Sorry, I've had a cold that's kept me down lately and haven't been up to much. Had hoped to see Britannia and Cromwell this coming Saturday, but other things have come up instead. Therefore the next steam I shall see on the Main Line will be next week when Princess Elizabeth comes down through Totton on her way to Swanage followed by Clan Line the following week.

    Hiya Dan,
Haven't heard from you for a while. I trust you are okay? Nice looking at Chatham Dockyard as my Dad served there in World War II. I filmed Tornado last week passing Camden Road. No speed but an unusual location. Be nice to hear from you. Barry

Rochester Castle shifts gears really quick, it's as if someone has swapped the transmission out for an Alison 4000 series automatic.

The ole Reverend took a lot of inspiration from the places he went and the things he did. His stories are one the reasons why people love this. It’s a reminder to slow down and enjoy things in life.

I would have liked to have been at Chatham Dockyard, never been there. I was at Brooklands on Sunday and Goodwood yesterday. I am distraught as I will miss Princess Elizabeth at St Deny's/Totton/Swanage too.

Why do geared locomotives like Sydenham have what look like coupling rods mounted on their axles?

I think that they might be spacer rods to keep to wheels apart maybe.
