India manages to keep costs down by incorporating elevated highways in the Metro corridor as well. The Road Transportation dept provides money, clearance, contractors and land to build metros. An interesting update to the Bangalore metro is that, their Namma Metro line is extending beyond its state border Karnataka and entering into the state of Tamil Nadu and will connect the first town in the state from their side, that is Hosur. Basically the line right now ends at Bommasandra, and it's planned to extend upto Hosur, which is roughly 20kms away. Many residents live in the both these places/states and move between borders each day to get to work and do other stuff. It's a heavy corridor. The Karnataka government has approved the plan to extend the line and has asked the Tamil Nadu government for approval now.

Delhi Master Plan 2041 also includes upgradation of Delhi Ring and sub urban Railway and 5 more RRTS lines. Indian Railways has also made plans to quadruple all the major routes to run more sub urban services in other cities. Bengaluru is building sub urban network from scratch. By the mid or end of 2024 many lines in Mumbai may get operational. India will be heavily benefited by these metro since it will manage the crowd and reduce it. hello friend, a very important aspect about Mumbai metro (that you didnt cover/didnt find during your research) is that its built to supplement its existing humongous local train system. The blue line that you showed basically acts like a bridge between two existng (somewhat) parrallel local train lines. You dont even have to leave the station. You just get off the local, get on the overbridge and viola you have the metro.
The metro is designed to supplement the public transport system of the city, and honestly its actually so good it deserves a video of its own!

Mumbai has currently only a couple of lines operational, which isn’t very useful as it covers only a horizontal stretch of land in an extremely longitudinal city. There are other lines being constructed but they’re not much farther along in progress.
The Chennai metro on the other hand loops around the city and has excellent coverage to downtown Chennai’s busy areas and connectivity to its bus terminal, long distance rail stations and airport. The underground stations are pure works of art, and they’re much farther along in construction of newer lines which will be serving other parts of the city not yet connected to the metro system.

@RMTransit great story. Another great and insightful story related to this is the management of the metro system in India especially Delhi Metro System. The brilliance and effiency of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, a public institution is in stark contrast to private players like Reliance , a private company which was initially involved in construction and managing the Airport line. It was a disaster. Eventually it was undertaken by DMRC and now it managed extremely well. It is a great example of public institution doing very well as compared to private companies.

A decade ago, people were laughing about how Indian trains have people jump on to the roof for a seat. Now it has a metro system comparable to systems you'd expect to see in the Far East Asian countries. Meanwhile here in the US... *sigh*

    • @it6647
      @it6647 2 года назад

The problem in Mumbai at least even a decade back wasn't the locals themselves but a lack of capacity
The locals are just fine but unlike US, we don't worry about traffic
As long as the trains are running, Mumbai lives
The locals are hence called the lifeline of Mumbai
When they stop, during monsoons for eg, the entire city stops

I have also traveled in Paris, Rome, Munich and Barcelona...Europeans are way ahead of Americans. But India is catching up to Europe very fast. The previous 50 years in India was wasted by looting governments at center and states. We are seeing this tremendous progress for past 10-15 years only. The status of India's metro development as of July 2023:
Operational Routes: 831 km across 26 cities + 1 water metro
Under constrction routes: 475 km across 16 cities
Proposed routes (mostly Metro Neo, Metrolite) across 26 new cities: 1055 km
RRTS: multiple Regional Rapid Transit Systems proposed. The very first RRTS line to be opened in 2023
Regional public transit system: labeled as "Vande Metro" in India. Similar to the Go in Toronto. Proposed for all major cities to cover distances less than 100 km
Governments do make a difference. When the present leadership took office 9 years ago, India had 2 metro systems
