"That was interesting...!" 🤣🤣🤣 FYI: "Goodness Gracious Me" was first recorded and performed by Peter Sellers and Sophia Loren; it was a top 5 UK single in 1960... Sellers acting the role of an Indian doctor _(a brown voice portrayal, as in this version),_ and Loren his wealthy Italian patient - who fall in love.
In the 1990s, the song provided the inspiration for the title and theme tune of a BBC Radio (first) and then a BBC TV comedy sketch show starring British-based Indian characters.

Perhaps you were expected to be reviewing the 90s TV sitcom called Goodness Gracious Me

In the film the parts were played by Peter Sellers and Sophia Loren and you need to see the film to understand this stage played version.

The 1998-2015 sketch show "Goodness Gracious Me" took its name from this 1960's song.
A British sketch-comedy that explores the integration of Indian and British cultures through a series of satires, musicals, and skits.

The song was a big hit in the 60's here in Britain song by Peter Sellers with an Indian accent and Sophie Loren. You need to see the film to get the full context of the song...google the song or the film. Don't get mixed up with the comedy sketch show called 'Goodness gracious me'

Great reaction! Well, I enjoyed watching this parody, but I agree, you should consider reacting to the *BBC TV Comedy Sketch Show Goodness Gracious Me* Going for an English or Asian Top Gear is a good starting point.

Way back Cliff Richard & Jill Browne performed the duet. They reversed the roles with Cliff as the patient and Jill the Doctor (or nurse)

Oh and I went with a friend to see one of the live stage performances of the 'Goodness Gracious Me' crew (late 90s comedy show) with a friend. During the show they started speaking what I assumed was Hindi. My good friend was let's say Indian looking. I am white. I had never felt the need to ask him where his family was from, it never came up, so I suppose I just assumed he was Indian. Anyway, during the theatre production of this TV show with the Hindi speaking part, I leaned to him and asked "what are they saying" and he leaned back and said "I dunno mate, I'm Shri Lankan!" lol and no it's not a corny joke, real story, I felt awkward for the next few weeks!
I don't know any good slip recommendations for Goodness Gracious Me (90s TV series & Radio show) but I do know that there is also The Kumars At Number 42, a similar TV show (they had famous guests come round to their 'house' (a knda Sitcom style sofa and half a room on a stage) and it was hilarious!
      Anyway cheers!

It was a parody of the theme from a UK comedy show called Goodness Gracious Me about an Indian family living in England. Very funny show. You should check out the sketch about going out for an English!

You are obviously too young to appreciate that this is a parody of the 1960 original.

Is this what was recommended or did they really mean the sketch show “Goodness Gracious Me”?
This is just a one off but the show was a comedy show with a group of Indian comedians, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Kulvinder Ghir, Meera Syal and Nina Wadia.

Much more likely. That would include sketches like "going for an English" or "Asian top gear" to give a couple of examples.

its a classic song from a a film years ago, as per other comments.....performed probably for one of the charity type things...
Whoever suggested it needs to clear up whether it is this or the sketch show 'Goodness Gracious me' that they meant....There are some good sketches in the sketch show...
ps......i have loads of suggestions to watch, but it seems a lot of people chuck suggestions at you, so i will hold off...for now....
Having said that.....more wilty would be good...Especially Lee Mack ones, no matter how 'truth or lie' they are, he is brilliant at telling them......The bridesmaid one...truth or lie?

The original is from a film with Peter Sellers and Sophia Loren - it was a big hit in the sixties? Rowan didn't do a bad job, I suspect the modern comedy sketch show was named for the song.

Ahh! this was a tribute to a past era of threatened humour now we are supposed to hate its assumed sexist and racist overtones, Peter Sellars and Sophia Loren did the original and it was in its moment very entertaining. I personally liked it as Pixie Lott played it well along with Rowan Atkinsons depiction of an in love patient for an older male in an inappropriate job roll.

The original film was “The Millionairess” (1960 not 1972)and within the context of that film the song made sense. This skit didn’t. Peter Sellers’& Sophia Lauren’s performances should have been seen first, (but too late!). As others have pointed out, what you should have reacted to was the BBC series of the same name. The “Going for an English” sketch is from that series.

Pixie Lott is fine but her performance is nothing compared to Sophia Loren on the original. Loren's voice oozed sensuality, something completely lacking here.
