The RM 56 made a phenomenal buzz when it has been presented for the first time at SIHH 2012. Its case entirely made out of sapphire explains the intensity of the wouahou effect. Thanks to this material, this evolution of the previous RM 008 reveals entirely the details of its movement. And in addition to the technical challenge of creating such a case, which implied about 1000 hours of machining!, over 400 parts of the tourbillon split seconds chronograph caliber have been redesigned and most of them realized in titanium to reduce the weight. @thewatchestv

That is a very accurate description of Richard Mille. That is not a good or a bad thing, just an accurate description. It is an extreme version of swatch.
Personally I would rather wear an expensive watch then expensive jewelry including diamonds. For me the precision of the every little mechanical gear and spring moving in concert and the ingenuity of the human mind which created it will fascinate me 1000 times as much as a some gold and diamonds. This particular watch is beautiful for exactly that reason and the sapphire case in itself is beautiful. It's a testament to human creativity. One million dollars for a watch? Sure if I had bill gates money. I would buy what made me happy for a moment or a lifetime. We can't take it with us might as well enjoy it.

Resistance, hardness and toughness are all different things. Sapphire is very resistant, very hard but not tough at all. Steel on the contrary is quite resistant, not as hard and very tough. You won't scratch this thing or dent it whatsoever. But hell it will break if it falls to the ground, it will actually shatter.

Delage Eric You clearly have no idea what you are saying. Manufacturing a watch case entirely from sapphire takes specialized equipment. Not even high carbon high allot steels can cut through it. You need to use diamond coated tools. Then, you need a CNC machine which is capable of doing such precise cuts. 1000 hours mate. That's more than a month. Fortunately a watch like this will end in hands of someone who will appreciate it.

Got one of these from a gum-ball machine when I was a kid.
RM watches normally look good and feel modern. As a 35 year old guy I love waering RM and AP, altho not the limited edition ones. But if I were to spend more than a million dollars worth of watch, I'd spend it on a Patek.

I'm not here to bash Richard Mille, yes.this watch is a technical masterpiece but what I don't like about Richard Mille watches is that the time isn't legible. What time is it? I don't know. But yes, I will say it is a technical masterpiece overall.

But why such garish Ferrari Red and Yellow colors for the makings inside the watch? I would have chosen something much more complimentary to the sapphire, they always manage to spoil them in someways.
It's an awesome watch, but 19mm is just way too thick in my opinion.

I'll never understand the artisans who work their hearts out to create these technical and artistic marvels, and then they go and cheap out on the typography. Verdana on the back, really? That typeface was designed for optimal screen display, as it had really good hinting. It's really good at that. It's not a particularly elegant printed font.

Actually this kind of watches have rather negative prices because rare masterpieces go up in value with time. It’s basically a financial asset or inflation hedge. Of course, it’s not as liquid as gold or crypto but nevertheless it might be good way to diversity your portfolio (crypto, gold, stocks, real estate, art collections). If you think like that then 1.5M CHF doesn’t sound so crazy if you can sell it for 3M CHF in 5-10 years.

It doesnt have its main functionality; to simply tell the time. Someone wears this kind of watch will check their phone to see the time.
