I‘ve had my Range Rover for 5 years now. It‘s a 2007 Diesel. It still has the first air bags and compressor. I don’t understand all the panic about the air suspension. Actually the Range Rover air suspension is far more reliable than Mercedes, Audi or BMW air suspension. Why? They have many more years of experience with air suspension! Cheers and have a good start into the new year! 🚀

Love my LR/RRs, I agree with the coil-over conversion with one caveat.... The passive systems can be a little stodgy, but if you get one with the active air suspension, and adaptive sway bars, etc. all of the mentioned body roll, diving, and rocketing disappear. That being said if you were to purchase an older LR/RR with the passive system and you find yourself needing to replace air springs etc. it makes sense to move to coil-overs.
    Great Video!
You need an RRS SC now MY 06 - 13 my favorites in my LR/RR stable.

Im loooking to buy a 2006 Range rover L322 HSE from a friend of mine, the air suspension is done and i´d have to buy the coil kit. I hear you dont need the bypass but how can I be sure? Looking to buy the 489 USD conversion kit from Suncore. Seems like a bargain to me TBH. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

@@erickenriquez8221I am guessing that by the by-pass you are referring to the reflash of the ride/terrain control modules? I am not certain but I think in the older models you could just remove the ride height sensors to stop communication. I do not believe that is the case with a MY 2006.
My advice would be dont change over to coils. While the conversion is not hard, and the price you quoted seems very good for the parts, the reflash requires a seperate "module" that has to be spliced in line with the ARC and Terrain contol modules. While it is not super complicated it does require some interior removal and working in some tight area's.
The reason I say dont change over is because it is rare that all the air springs and the compressor go. The last couple LR's I have purchased cheap because the vehicle sank, and each time it was minor fix. Used air springs are fairly inexpensive, and there should be plenty because they used the same springs from '03 -'12. I would say you could get front and backs for around $600 total. You can rebuild air springs as well, and that is pretty simple process. I try to get used air springs from anywhere its warm and road salt is not used, and have never had a problem with them failing. Sometimes the compressor stops working "well" because it needs a rebuild, generally the desicante, rebuild kits are less than a $100, and if you really need a new compressor you can buy a decent one for around $300, but I have never seen one that could not be rebuilt.
Changing out the air springs can be a pain on the RRS/Discos, but on a RR MY 2006 it is 2 screws on the dampner, 3 bolts on top of the spring, 2 bolts that connect the spring to the spindle, the sway bar end link connector, and some sensor wires clipped in. On the RR everything is accesible. The air compressor is in the boot under the spare tire which makes it super accessible, and the installation is simple.
In my opinion they ride better with the air springs and like I said earlier if the have the arc system they are very stable drivers. I understand if you are building a pure off-roader going to coils could be beneficial, but I know a lot of off-roaders who leave the air spings in and make simple mods to improve off-road performance.
      Just my 2 cents.

@@stanleyharrris7671 Awesome advice, you are completely right. I might have been giving up too soon as I have not even troubleshooted the suspension myself, just heard from the guy that it leaks and wont rise. Indeed the vehicle is sunk, altough I believe the rear of the vehicle got water inside at some point damaging the compressor. I am not mechanically savy but I do my own research before going to the mechanic. I also live in the Mayan Riviera so no salt on roads an altough not very knowledgeable, I can get farily priced mechanic work. Thanks for the advice, I´d rather keep the air suspension for sure!

You sure it's an 06? The interior is wrong for facelift Jag version unless North America had parts bin version? Should have multi function toggle wheel replacing the hill decent and low range switches, clock is in the middle and all the turn dials are chrome edged? You must have a bitsa car? I have used mine as a daily for the last three years and it serves as my tow car. I have to agree that the reliability tag is due to poor ownership and ignorance. Parts are cheap in the UK and they are easy to work on. The parts which can fail tend to be BMW components or the usual consumables which can't be classed as a reliability issue. We have a lot of armchair critics in the UK who have never driven or owned an L322 but a friend of a friend knew someone who said they were unreliable.... After owning Jeep, Merc, Explorers, Isuzu and Mitsubishis, I always come back to Range Rovers as they don't rot, stuff fits and they get you where you want to be with a certain elegance unmatched by others!

@@AddictedMotors Only reason for getting the Jag petrol 4.4. Over here everyone tries to get the pennies for the V8 diesel... supposedly the dog's nuts! The BMW V8 is OK if looked after... cheaper to buy BMW parts than rebadged Land Rover. Mixed feelings about the Discovery... Amigo lights etc.. Took me a while before I realised you had bought an L322 on coils.... big no, no! Possible insurance issues in UK if you fit coils and the adaptive suspension system
used by Jag is better than the BMW version. Knocks value right down on coils.

It's one of the best cars ever made ,despite internet opinion equal to 0.
With a life span of 11 years made by bmw ,they are relatively easy to work on.
It's robust and rides like a Rolls Royce.
