    We have our Welsh Springer Spaniel pup now. He will be 1 in a couple of weeks. Your descriptions are spot on!

    Awesome video thanks for the information. I love my English springer so much! Both of these breeds are very hard to come by in northern California. I am on the hunt for another awesome four legged family member and now I understand a Welsh would also be a great candidate. Thanks again 🐾 🐾

    Your video is extremely helpful! There are a few Welsh Springer Spaniels in my area. One of them visits our street once in a blue moon. Speckles has green eyes, will look into your eyes with his happy and gentle face then he'll disappear! I love their personality, fur type and especially their colours.

    Our welshie is the toughest dog I've ever met, she roughhouses and plays very physically with other bigger dogs and absolutely loves everyone and everything. I guess there are major differences in the individuals.

    As multiple Welsh Springer owners of 31 years, and friends to many more with English Springers I agree with some of your comments but disagree with others. As you said the Welsh want to take a moment to know a stranger. We liked the slightly smaller Welsh (about 5-10 pounds less) size, although both are midsized breeds. We really liked the normal sized ears vis-a-vis the extra long ears of the English, and the slightly shorter muzzle. We have had far less ear infections on our Welsh than all of my friends with the English even though ours swam much more than theirs. The only breed smarter than the Welsh Springer is the Border Collie, which is definitely the smartest. We have not noticed the more sensitive areas that you referenced, and are confused by this reference. Both are exciting, inquistive dogs but the Welsh does not constantly get into your face as the English did on your video. Both are great breeds, but we think the Welsh better although far less well known in the dog world. We certainly think them way better than other breeds we experienced: Minature Schnauzer, German Shepherd, Doberman, Shetland Sheepdog, Wirehair Terrier, Airedale, and Alaskan malamute. Most of these breeds were clueless (except the Shepherd) and preferred to sleep all day, and had near zero interaction, or interest in humans.

    Thank you for the videos. I have a question about the health of these 2 beautiful breeds: is there something to worry about ? How long do both breeds live?
    Thank you!

    Yes, the welsh are sensitive, I have 2 both 6yrs, have had a few other breeds....your assessment is fair, although I am not comparing them to any other particular breed.

    I love dogs and I have been wanting to get a welsh springer spaniel puppy for while here in Ontario but just can't make the move because rental properties dont always allow pets here and I am undecided because I may need to move to Australia in near future and Australia is having really tough pet import rules costing a fortune.

    Thanks for the very nice overview! I love both species, but never had one, only an epagneul francais and a small munsterlander, also very friendly dogs with a lot of energy. Is there actually a difference in the amount of barking between the E and W, and how do they respond at having being at home for a while as I would like to continue playing golf when deciding for one of the two.

    So funny at 5:00 the Welsh sports something and does that face and then the whole fleet goes off to have a look 🤣

  • @ximausi

    Do you think if the welsh is thouroughly socialised as a puppy with people of all ages, he can come to work with you? Or will he bark at any stranger at the office and is very territorial? The welshie would be the perfect dog for me in terms of height and weight and of course their appearance! Gorgeous dogs! 😍

    • @OSheaSpringers
      @OSheaSpringers  2 года назад

      Oh no doubt! They would be fine with that. They are good with people but aren't 'in your face' want to have attention. If they are brought up in that environment they would do fine :D

    Is there any difference in their grooming/coat? Do the English have more coat than the Welsh? Do you clip either breed? Any differences in the health generally of the two breeds? Any difference in which is more obedient once trained? Thank you

  • @jiritichy7967

    I would expect to show physical differences, if any, and other aspects like health and performance aspects.
    I noticed that some, probably yanger ones, do not have the tails docked and they look better.

    • @OSheaSpringers
      @OSheaSpringers  3 года назад +1

      They're adorable for sure! I don't think they're too sensitive regarding training. They certainly can be corrected. It's like children, some all you have to do is look at sternly and they get the message. Others.... a little more! lol

    I am really interested in getting a dog in the future; and I really love Welsh Springer Spaniels. I do have one concern though. I will be living alone and will need to leave the dog alone for the day a couple days per week. In your experience, have Welshies had a lot of trouble with separation anxiety?

    • @OSheaSpringers
      @OSheaSpringers  Год назад

      Hello! Thanks for commenting. All good need to be trained and socialized well so they do not develop separation anxiety. With that said though, no dog should be left alone for a couple of days. With the proper training dogs can be left alone throughout the day while people go to work but I would never say for longer than that.

    Hello. Thanks for these videos, I am recently smitten by the welsh springers! We thought we always wanted a golden retriever, but recently are thinking a bit smaller is better.... How do the welsh's compare to golden retrievers in personality?

  • @danielholzer7611

    Which breed would you recommend for a family with little kids age 3, 4 and 6 yo? Welsh or English?

    • @OSheaSpringers
      @OSheaSpringers  2 года назад

      That's hard to answer because it really depends on the family setting. BOTH are good for families and do very well. If you are a 'roughhousing' kind of family and want a dog you can roll and tumble with I think I would say an English.

    I work and train gun dogs in the uk I have 6 springer and 2 cockers of my own. The Welsh springer in the uk is not very popular you don’t see them in the shooting world the Welsh have all most gone. Your springers are very calm are springer are much more driven

    • @OSheaSpringers
      @OSheaSpringers  Год назад

      That's cool! Thanks for sharing with us. Yes the Welsh Springer Spaniel is a very rare breed even over here in Canada. Ha, they may appear to be calm but they can be really active as well! Over in Canada we have 2 very distinct lines of English Springer Spaniels, 1 is called field lines and the other show/bench. The field lines are more energetic and bred for hunting and their energy.
