    as someone who went to Nashville Ballet's intensive and now is in the year round, I would personally put it in serious business!! they do NOT mess around. I swear I almost died everyday! we had a super intense conditioning class every day before technique and then had hours of intense ballet classes with only a 15 minute break before the last class. It was tough but I swear I got SO RIPPED. idk how it was for the lower levels but once you're in upper advanced levels you have to be on top of your game all the time. It's an amazing intensive and school and I would highly recommend it to anyone who's up for the challenge!

      I have recently switched from Nashville ballet after seeing the ages for lower levels, level 3 and 4 ranging from 3rd to 10th. It was ridiculous and the class were way too large. I switched to NCBA (Nashville Classical Ballet Academy) they practice 5 hours, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They put you on Pointe by 12 and and extremely serious, Nashville Ballet was honestly a joke.

    Orlando Ballet was a very intense summer intensive. It had 6 classes a week (6 days), like Houston. It is only 5 weeks, and we got the 3rd Saturday off. But boy did we need it!
    Atlanta Ballet was a nice balance of good memories and great dance program. For the final performance, the teacher choreography specifically for each group, and you perform one dance per style (hip hop, jazz, modern, and ballet). All the second company members start from the summer program. I improved so drastically after those 5 week that my home studio moved me into the highest level after telling me I’d send another year in the advance level prior to my attendance at Atlanta.

    Another one to consider is the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. The professional division summer school is 4 weeks long. Students dance monday to Saturday. The dorms are attached to the school and has a fantastic chef and wonderful supervision. There are evening optional evening activities for students. It’s a small company and school, so there is a lot of opportunity for correction. The summer school is the audition for the year round academic program. We live locally and my son attended this program and came home every evening exhausted and motivated. I would totally recommend it.

    My daughter is in the PD program at Ballet West. After summers at PNB and Miami, she will tell anyone that Miami has an incredibly intense summer program. The classes are small. She had 4-5 classes a day. She walked away feeling so much stronger and that the training was absolutely top notch! She doesn’t feel that quite as strongly about PNB. Yes, she did love being on the beach in Miami, as well, of course 😉. I really appreciate your opinion on SAB. That’s exactly the impression I’ve gotten from what I’ve seen and heard. I improved so much, the classes are pretty small (mine had 11 girls in it) and everyone got personal corrections. It was honestly just so amazing! We had at least 2 technique classes a day but it was often times 3, a pointe class, and then like once a week we had fun class instead of a third technique class. Honestly I loved it and I can’t wait to go back next year

  • @naomispostcards

    personal thoughts about balletmet where i went last year: i found that a lot of it depends on level (my level kind of got neglected and we got the fewest classes a lot of the time, we weren’t even the lowest level) but it’s definitely pretty serious. we would have normally 5-7 hours per day and we danced six days a week. pretty much everyone had some sort of injury or shin splints by the end. the thing i will say is that balletmet definitely had a lot of students (probably about 20 in each level, maybe a little more) but everyone did still get corrections which was good. however if you’re looking for a fun summer, columbus ohio isn’t the most interesting place and we didn’t really do much except go to the studio, so i personally would probably put it in serious business. it was a really good experience and definitely helped me improve a lot but as far as enjoyment of the summer goes i think there’s probably better options just because we mostly were in the studios and dorms for most of the summer.

  • @esha638
    @esha638 2 года назад +5

    I went to the Boston Ballet summer intensive over the summer and I will say it is definitely a big summer intensive with a lot of students and limited dancing space, so there isn't much one on one connections with the teachers and students. Also, if you are looking for an intense summer Boston is definitely not the place to go because every level had only three classes a day with a one hour break between each class... I was very disappointed about the amount of dancing we actually got to do because even though we were there for seven hours a day, half of the time was spent roaming around and watching other classes. Boston Ballet is a great program to go back to the basics and clean up technique if you are behind, but certainly not the place for you are looking for a challenge or to get a lot stronger. It was really great for the memories as well. I'd say it makes for a good first summer intensive.

      I went to newton this year and completely disagree, but I was in the highest level you could be there so I got the best schedule, either way though I had 5 classes a day very little breaks and a ton of corrections, they do let a lot of people in but if you are good you will be in one of the C levels and have a pretty good and challenging experience if you aren’t you will be in one of the lower levels but still be with dancets in your level overall though I loved going to it

    I want to add - the only reason to skip the Royal Ballet is if it is, in fact, only a two week program. But otherwise the teaching is excellent and a good foundation for all styles of dance. I spent a full year there and it was an extraordinary experience. Great teachers who went to a lot of trouble to really elevate your dancing. Most are former members of the company and nice. After my year there at age 17 I joined the company - so I was very lucky. As a New Yorker who grew up in the NYC ballet scene, I can tell you unless you’re only interested in becoming a Balanchine dancer and like to be with the snobbiest group of girls and teachers on earth then avoid their programs. (I was actually accepted the two times I auditioned but my Russian teacher talked me out of it). The standards were much stricter when Mr. B was still alive - (especially with body types snd absolutely no patience for errors). But the girls still walk around as if....😒😏...ABT used to have a great school - then the “school” mushroomed with so many satellites. You are so so so right. It’s much better to be at a slightly less prestigious program instead of being the “littler” fish in a super snobby pond.
    Any one looking to do a Vaganova or Russian / Bolshoi program outside of Russia - really research like crazy that they are the real deal. Many people pretend they were actually trained at these illustrious schools. But they can be very misleading. There are a few not great schools that have summer intensives and pretend to be awesome are not especially authentic. I know a few. Lastly, just because a school has success at YAGP means nothing -

      I am a student at Texas Ballet Theater and it is honestly such an open and safe environment, especially for pointe beginners. The teachers, at least the ones I have taken classes from are by far my favorite instructors I have ever had. Although I have never taken their summer intensive, their classes are on the smaller side and there's lots of one on one attention. I hope you like it!

      CPYB is excellent- I went there and the way technique was grilled into my mind was amazing. I attended around 5 years ago so my info may be a little outdated but I have had a couple of friends who have gone back as counselors since and the school is still amazing. Also, if they place you in a lower level, the pointe technique will be focused on a lot, which is good for someone who is new to it. Good luck!

      Hi! I did Atlanta's professional intensive when I was 17 and thought it might help to give you an overview of my experience. This program gave me a really good feel for professional life. We started with class and were cast in performances, for the rest of the intensive we mostly did class and then rehearsal each day. If I didn't have rehearsal for some time, I was able to take extra classes with other groups. I liked it, but think it's really important to be able to push yourself to work if you don't have rehearsal.
