  • This was the fruit that surprised and wowed us the most this year! I have not tasted anything like it. The Flavor King Pluot- a concentrated tropical fruit punch in your mouth! Curious to know who else is growing Pluots and your favorite variety?

    The fruit is great. The tree is small and doesn't grow very quickly though

      So fun! We are hoping its a good year for plums here in the PNW. Last year the weather was really wonky in the spring, still got a good harvest but not like it could have been. Have a great spring!

      @@jagmeetsmann I've got 3 different pluots in ground for three years now and haven't had any fruit yet. I've had a few Pluerries last year. I'll give them another year or two... I'm in the PNW, Santa Rosa Plums do well but jury still out on Pluots.

      fingers crossed! They really benefit from having plants around them that attract pollinators due to their early flowering.

    Can not compare Cosco/Sams version because they're very watery due to premature pick - for better word, weak taste. King is hands down taste test winner for me. Along with Burgundy plum. Both ties at #1 for me. What sets King apart from everyone else is extreme STRONG FLORAL taste. Much more meatier when grown at home because you get to pick them fresh. If you are going to grow a King, Flavor Grenade pluot or Burgundy plum, always always get them on Myro 29C root stock because Citation stinks. These 3 are extreme SLOW grower.

      It needs cross pollination- plant with another pluot or early flowering Japanese plum!

  • @truthseeker1364

    Does anybody know if it's possible to mix European and Japanese plums. Seeing that they flower weeks apart isn't it possible to save the pollen and pollinate the other. I think this would make some interesting mixes

      Hi! Yes it needs less than 400 hours below 45 degrees for chill hour requirements and does well in zones 6-10!

      Elevation is in India. Outside its zone. Fruit trees care about temperature not elevation.

    how does this taste vs flavor supreme and a fully tree-ripened italian plum?

    • @restoringedennursery3551
      @restoringedennursery3551  3 года назад +1

      Hi Eric, personally I have not tasted many pluots, this was one of the only ones I have tried. In comparison to Italian plum- I don't think they really compare. Pluots have a much more complex flavor due to them being hybrids. No knock on the Italian plum, its a great plum and really productive but definitely different flavor.

      Here's my personal rank grown from back yard first to bottom: Flavor King, Burgundy, Elephant Heart, Flavor Grenade, Burbank, Candy Heart, Flavor Supreme, Dapple Dandy, Flavor Queen, Golden Nectar, Kadota, Santa Rosta, Satsuma, Beauty,

    • @bonholio0o
      @bonholio0o 4 месяца назад

      PS if you have tasted Dapple Dandy which is commercially grown, flavor supreme is an early variety harvest date is late June. Large fruit, taste is very similar to Dapple Dandy in term of texture, sugar to tart balance. Not as complex as Flavor King. King is very complex, much more depth for me it has extra strong floral after taste.

      Can not compare Italian which is a prune (European origin) to plum (Asian origin). Prune are pure sugar without acid whereas plum have a balance of sweet and tart. And you can not use prune to pollinate plum either. They're different species. Italian is very similar to French, French Improved, and Stanley. Which are all great for drying. My favorite is Muir Beauty Prune. If you have Tulare Giant, you'll get twice the crop however it's self-pollinate and harvest date is mid August. Another good fresh eating prune is sugar prune, be careful if you have slow drain soil. I lost one tree already due to slow drainage. Trying again round two. Here we go.

      @@bonholio0o what brix did you get with the Flavor Grenade, Satsuma, and Beauty? Does the satsuma and Beauty being at the bottom end mean they were quite tasteless and/or uninteresting or were they just relatively not as good but by themselves still good and worthy to be planted?
