Episode 5921 - The Price Is Right 1985 - The Barker Era

Here it comes, television's most exciting hour of fantastic prizes the fabulous sixty-minute Price is Right!
We are showcasing episodes not viewed in decades. Starting from Season 11 (1982), this is the first season when animal furs were no longer offered as prizes, supporting Bob’s advocacy of animal rights in memory of his wife Dorothy Jo.
To celebrate what would have been Bob Barker's 100th birthday, the channel is also featuring episodes from the debut season of The "New" Price Is Right in 1972.

Not only did Caryn master this game, but she wrote down her guesses very quickly - this indicates to me that she saw those on the show before by watching at home and memorizing the prizes very well.
Don't be like Ted Slauson, the guy who also memorizes the prices and told to other contestants to make a perfect bid, like Terry's showcase bid in 2008 that Slauson told to
Why? What's wrong with that? ☝️
And if you care to watch the documentary, it wasn't Ted himself who gave the perfect showcase bid to that man.
@@silentbob3208 You ought to watch the Press Your Luck Scandal sometime. Forty years ago a guy named Michael Larson got on the show. He spent days studying the patterns on the Big Board, so as to determine which boxes had cash and prizes behind them, and which ones did/didn't have Whammies behind them. The first time he spun he hit a Whammy. After that, he rattled off I don't know how many consecutive spins without getting a Whammy. Larson would also stop on spaces that had additional spins on them. He wound up accumulating $110237 in cash and prizes.
And to this day, Kenneth is still sitting in Contestant's Row, waiting for his chance to come on-stage.
Always nice to see a contestant on TPIR that knows what they are doing. Some of these games are so easy to win if you pay the slightest bit of attention when watching the show. Then you get others that play the games and make it look like it is the most difficult thing in the world.
3:24 She sure made Ten Chances very easy!
Bob states that this is the second time this happened in TPiR history. It was actually the third time. It really paid to watch, watch, day and night!
Actually there was one time where all 3 prizes in 10 chances was won where the contestant didn't have to write down anything because the crew that setup the 10 chances game forgot to put the covers over the right price (the guy that normally set it up was out due to his wife having a baby).
That happened years later. Very memorable, though
I think after the commercial break Bob clarified that there was some type of mechanical malfunction and that the cards were set up properly but all of them fell down when the game was getting put out on the floor.
Another Perfect 10 Chances Win!
3rd in history at the time.
@@silentbob3208So Bob was wrong when he announced it was the second time? And someone in the crew confirmed it.
@@ThunderFist1978Like a lot of "historic moments" on the show. But it is hard to keep immediate track when there's so many episodes.
Two have been done on Season 19 (1990-1991).
Wow, she even knew about the "5" rule.
Guess the day AND night reference that Bob made, was to his & Tom Kennedy's version?
Caryn already looks like a mastermind!
Taking Bob's advice, I would (have) watched The Price Is Right each time it was on, if only I didn't have to go to school!
Or work ☹️
That's three chances out of ten right there .
Theodore Slauson really did take this to heart.... too soon? lol
Eh...
There’s also a perfect playing earlier that year.
April 18 and December 9 produce perfect 10 chances in 1985. Amazing.

Rod Roddy Become Permanent Announcers in February 1986!!!?
From Pricing game #2 of the 12/9/85 episode of The Price is Right. Amazingly, the second perfect playing of 1985.
The first prize doesn't follow the zero rule, but it does end in a 5, which happened for a bit before every playing had all the prizes follow the zero rule.
As I've said before, Ten Chances, if you follow the zero rule, is the easiest car game to win on TPIR. That's likely why That's Too Much!, a much, much harder car game, is played so much more frequently on the Drew Carey version.
I'd love to have that Patrick Nagel seriograph
If Caryn played a perfect game of 10 Chances, then she did better than Joy. It took her until the 10th chance to win because she kept using the same number more than once.
Joy thought she was playing 1,000 Chances.
Oh Joy😢
Obvious. Quite obvious.
Contestants in this game have been getting much better. There was a perfect game in 1984 and two in 1985 including this one.
And it also happened twice on the Doug Davidson version from the nighttime price is right 1994-1995.
Caryn won without the benefit of the "zero is the last number of the price" unwritten rule. Flawless Victory, indeed.
Did you watch the clip? 2 of the 3 end with 0.
The containers didn't even end in 0!
Caryn was the "anti-Joy" from much later in Bob's run as TPIR host.
21 years apart, Yes!
She knew the unwritten rules regarding the last number, long before it was plastered all over the internet. ;)
Bob had to fill time with commentary because the game wasn't supposed to go that quickly.
That's one of the things I miss so much. The later Barker years, and pretty much all of the Drew Carey run, they no longer do anything to get to know the contestants better, or model chats, or anything like that. It's so rushed and there is no room for anything to breath.
Awesome win 🏆
Wow this most perfection 10 chances history champ 2nd time bob says
Another one happened in 1985 too. April 18th, to be exact. First perfecto was in 1984.
I couldn't have said it better myself.
@@davidellis5141 Nope 👎🏻🙂↔️🙅🏻.
How did Duran Duran ever obtain the rights to use that portrait for the front of their album cover on "Rio"?
$25 for Containers
$620 for Luggage
$6,850 for a Car
This Pricing Game on-aired in the first episode of Rod Roddy, who is the second official announcers of The Price is Right?
Correct.
Rod's first audition while he was still announcing Press Your Luck.

A brand new car for less than 7k? This had to be way back in the 1970s or early 80s.
1:16 Bob: "You lost the first one by $10. You lost this one by a dollar. You've lost two prizes by $11."
Kenneth: "That's right."
Bob: "And you're beginning to look older from it too, Kenneth. I've got to tell ya, I think it's getting to ya."
Kenneth: [hee, hee, hee] "I know, right?! All I can say is wait a couple more years to 1987 (on October 15) if you *really* want to see a dramatic overnight change!"
That’s amazing
U can't get a new car at that price... 😆
Easy as 1 2 3 caryn dominates 10 chances!
1 2 3rd contestant to do so also.
