+Finian Zeps well cuz not everyone has the time to sit back and watch EVERY SINGLE FRICKIN EPISODE of theirs, so it's completely normal for people to not know...
+Jon Mann I'm guessing that glitter must be non-metallic. If they actually were small shards of metal, one of them would have definitely shorted out the motherboard or graphics card by now...
I just bought the master case 5 and I'm having a hell of a time getting the LED's to stick to the silky soft metal. This video couldn't have come at a better time. THANKS!!!
So- I had to abandon the PC scene for 12 yrs... . It is totally amazing how far the home PC has come in a mere handful of years. Back then AGP was the thing. And case lighting was in it's infancy with the only option being cold cathode lights, which were basically just fluorescent tubes. the performance was spotty at best, and color choices were barely even an option.. . Fast forward to today- O. M. Gawd!!! I started about a year ago to build my first PC in over a decade, and damn, the RGB options just blew my mind!!! Now the craze has grown even more. There's never in history been a better time to build computers that look as good as they run!!!
I just bought an Asus board with these connectors and couldn't find much info on what to use. Thanks for the video. Building a PC gaming rig after nearly a decade. Have a lot of catching up to do in the gaming world.
I didn't expect to see you on this channel. Im pretty sure this is in the US m.ncix.com/products/sku/125608. Either way these are hard enough to find XD. Hope this helped.
+MrRepzion Performance PC is the only place that carries them, and I don't believe that CM has fully released the RGB ones yet. Their Facebook page is the best place to get info.
The strips are the same as they've used for a couple years for things like under counter lighting at the home improvement stores. Great to see the headers starting to become standardized. I love the concept... In fact, putting a plastic diffuser strip would give a nice subtle glow.
I actually bought the cable mod box and two strips kit a few months back now there the white foam and not the magnetic strips, the controller works well i ran the receiver along a fold in the hard drive bay with the header just sticking out facing the window panel so works well and the stips are bright and transition between hues smoothly, great little buy for what I believe was like maybe 15$ USD. I've painted my case twice now from a Dark purple and light teal Vanu Sovereignty ala planetside to its current rendition of a cherry red and black Elder Scrolls theme and having rbg lights were a huge life saver in terms of just being able to simply change the colors.
NZXT Hue+, GRID+ V2 , using CAM software for both in new rig. I've got nothin' but love for ASUS and Cablemod, but the NZXT solution just feels really smooth and well implemented so far.
Would be great to do an updated version of this video that shows both competing and compatible RGB controllers and standards such as the ASUS/NZXT and what peripherals can be controlled by them such as fans/strips/RAM/AIO coolers/GPU and maybe even mouse/keyboard etc.
+Maleek Brown good part is, most mech kb's without rgb are cheaper ! corsair k65 is brutally honest in what a good KB actually needs, all at a good price.
I don't usually do plugs. But I have a video I made after CES to mock the RGB lighting that's literally tossed into every product nowadays. Some would find it funny I suppose. Especially if you play league of legends or a lot of twitch. Anywho. Shameless plug. Sorry if it annoys someone. Literally never made a plug for myself before in a comment but this just fits so perfectly I figured it'd be a fun addition to it.
NZXT said something about the reason they used Molex for their Hue+. Something about the consistency of the 12 volts through the rail it was connected to, so it was on purpose to make things work the way they should, always.
I just bought LED strips by ATTYOU on Amazon and they plug in via USB, so I bought a Internal USB header and it worked great! I've seen a lot of LED strips, but after a time, I know they fade pretty fast, my ATTYOU ones seem to last a long time so far.
I personally use Aquacomputer's Farbwerk (that also works great with any generic 5050 LED strips) and it does give me much more control over my case lighting but being able to control RGB LEDs without any additional hardware is a great thing IMHO.
Oh Christmas case! Oh Christmas case! Thy lights are so enchanting. Oh Christmas case! Oh Christmas case! How richly I have decked thee! Not only green is my color-scheme, but indeed it's R-G-B Oh Christmas case! Oh Christmas Case Much pleasure thou can'st give me!
I wish there was a shot with the light and side window on. I've DIY'd a RGB ledstrips to be powered via my PCU and controlled via remote. All I need now is a nice case to put them in. I've been thinking of getting the Mastercase pro/maker 5 so a shot with the side window on would've given a nice preview.
@Luke Lafreniere actually there is a small symbol (oval with three hollow dots) in the top right corner of the AURA panel that gives you the option to calibrate your RGB strip by sending power though each lane and asking you what color you got from it.
Now this is the first time that I have seen glitter on computer components. I am guessing that they filmed this around christmas and forgot to upload it LOL.
I used a similar RGB strip for my blue themed PC. I went with white to offset the absurd amount of blue in my room. I must say, it looks really nice. And my PC isn't in my room, but a branch off of my room. So I can leave it on and still hope to sleep lol.
FYI, these cablemod lights are the exact same ones you can buy from ebay. In fact, anything that isn't nzxt, is likely to come out of the same chinese factory just with a different sticker. These are the exact same ones you would get from Deepcool, for example (with different glue solution from memory). Dont pay just for a sticker, do some research. If you have a soldering iron, you don't need cablemods special cable, you can just re-wire one that you have.
+Jason Smith what you are saying is not correct - read up the details before you post - we developed special LEDs for a more even lighting effect, improved the adhesive and offer a SATA power connection. Show me any other brand that offer this.
+CableMod Community Your company actually developed special LEDs....? Really? I call bullshit on that, but please enlighten us on how you did this? Who in your company designed a new LED?
From what I can see, the ASUS motherboards audio visualiser looks so much better and accurate compared to the NZXT Hue+, Hope NZXT improves on their visualiser to make it like this in the next update.
That Mystery Video was the most amazing video, everyone should see it. Watch it before the "i" spoils it. I waited and I regret that. Mystery Video, I approve.
You know what would be way cooler? "Skinning" your PC case with something like e-Ink. Then you'd be able to control the look of the case as if it were another monitor. Grayscale or color. Or perhaps OLEDs? If that seems too pricey you could use Liquid Crystal heat sensitive pages to wrap around your case. It would be about the easiest way to see which parts of your computer are warmer or cooler.
Pimp my computer still lives on... Yo dawg we heard you liked gaming computers, so we got you a case with a window and put the rest of the budget into lights and fans. Now you can play your games at medium settings but its ok, your computer's appearance will make up for the lack of detail in game!
From what stripclub you stole that pc.
+Karan Chaphekar linus sex tips clup
+Yousef Aiman i like that club very much.

Christmas already?
Isn't it a bit too early, Linus?
Not at all. Just you know... about 11 months ahead of time.
Just preparing, right?

It kind of says the name of it as suggested.
Oops.

I still think the NZXT Hue+ is the best all round kit.

Overpriced

It's overpriced tho
+Tanzu15 because it's so damn good
It looks like they dipped the entire computer in glitter, Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
The CPU cooler covered in glitter looks like it's spinning in slow motion or back and forth, haha
That Fan Looks so dope! looks like it's an Animation while everything else looks normal 60 FPS feeling.
PC BUILD Christmas Edition RGB with LEDS RGB and RGB RGB
I just bought the master case 5 and I'm having a hell of a time getting the LED's to stick to the silky soft metal. This video couldn't have come at a better time. THANKS!!!

I can't seem to find the cablemod magnetic strips anyplace sold in the USA.... anyone know if you can buy them here?
I didn't expect to see you on this channel. Im pretty sure this is in the US
m.ncix.com/products/sku/125608. Either way these are hard enough to find XD. Hope this helped.
+MrRepzion I hate furry lovers too! But not to fear, I will blow up all the furry lovers. ALLAHU AKBAR!
+MrRepzion You can buy them here, I believe: www.performance-pcs.com/cablemod-widebeam-magnetic-led-strip-rgb-kit-30cm-15-leds.html
+MrRepzion I have no idea but if NCIX carries them if its a canada only thing im sure he could hook u up.
A USB header based controller with some software to control the RGB function would be nice for those of us without the ASUS on board headers

4:55 I'm feeling like singing Jingle Bells
I've created my own custom RGB LED lighting for my PC case. I actually responds to low frequency sounds and flashes to the beat. Addicted to BASS!
.... Damn imagine what glitter does to fans and cables. lol
NZXT Hue+, GRID+ V2 , using CAM software for both in new rig. I've got nothin' but love for ASUS and Cablemod, but the NZXT solution just feels really smooth and well implemented so far.
2:56 *My kids asked me why u called it a female connector😬.i said cuz it has holes😏😂*
Lol I 13 and that legit how I remember it

So glad to see the glitter gear back in action.
Am I the only one over rgb. 16.8 million colors on everything looks trashy and too "gamer"
key audiance is probably kids, kids love rgb leds on everything.
I agree. I prefer the stealthy/elegant look. Too much rgb can really drown out your system.
I don't like any other color except a soft white
+Maleek Brown more flashy lights is more fps. DOH!
+Maleek Brown good part is, most mech kb's without rgb are cheaper ! corsair k65 is brutally honest in what a good KB actually needs, all at a good price.
RGB case lighting by temperature is EXACTLY what I've wanted for a while now :)!!!
Fix That GPU Sag! I Can't Bear To Watch O_o
I only noticed when I saw your comment and I can't watch the video now
:D
+DJHeroMasta RGB case lighting with GPU sag=obese girls with belly button rings.
+UnivegaSuperSport Yuk! I will always have that in my mind now when I see GPU sag ... thanks to you! :P xD
Oliver ASUS Hahaha!
im glad i already figured this out and have pretty much this exact RGB LED set up.
That PC looks like its male sockets accept male sockets, if you know what I mean.
👉👈
r/beetlejuicing on yt
The music in this video mixed with all that RGB almost gave me my first epileptic fit.
That PC looks like shit and cheap wtf all that glitter!
Channel super fun
+Potato Slayer5478 no, it was episode 1 of Tech Showdown on the main channel
The Motherboard headers for RGB light strips are probably the best idea so far.
I don't usually do plugs. But I have a video I made after CES to mock the RGB lighting that's literally tossed into every product nowadays. Some would find it funny I suppose. I like how they kept the christmas case and used it here without even mentioning it :D
Luke forgot the little i in the corner wich gives a preview for whats coming
Saved my life
lol love the custom glitter Linus.... liked that episode
nice christmas theme you guys got there going
Cool idea. Ultraviolet LED strips combined with custom florescent painted components. Everything in your case could be glowing.
U R a genius, you built a PRO Fancy computer, you´re a proffesional PC modder ♥
Oh Christmas case! Oh Christmas case!
Thy lights are so enchanting.
Oh Christmas case! Oh Christmas case!
How richly I have decked thee!
Not only green is my color-scheme,
but indeed it's R-G-B
Oh Christmas case! Oh Christmas Case
Much pleasure thou can'st give me!
You guys should do a super RGB build where it has a ton of strips, and RGB mice and keyboards
I feel like watching "How the Grinch stole Christmas" with that pc.
That pc has the spirit of christmas
XD that intro message is legendary.
Now, you'll have Christmas tree all year round
seeing all those glitters still freaks me out. the feeling to wash it all out is driving me crazy.
That PC needs a disco ball and it'd be Saturday Night Fever kind of sick.
I like the 4pin Molex connectors. Makes it much easier to make up your own cables.
Like all your cables RGB lighted, would be so cool
The sparkling fan is really trippy with the camera refresh rate creating a weird effect.
The effect from the glitter on the CPU fan is trippy as balls
The mystery video has no annotation!
I used a similar RGB strip for my blue themed PC. I went with white to offset the absurd amount of blue in my room. I must say, it looks really nice. And my PC isn't in my room, but a branch off of my room. So I can leave it on and still hope to sleep lol.
that red glitter fan is hypnotising
That confetti on the computer made me cringe so hard I got chills...
Is that glitter? If it is you're a monster Luke.
That cpu cooler looks awesome. First time that I want rgb lighting. Still don't want a window in my case. But hey, you'll have to start somewhere.
He glitter in the case and stuff killed it
hello i have no life waiting for linustechtips
How do you control the single color strips? I want one, but I also want to be able to turn it off when I want to...
thanks for getting me into cubing
Is that the Christmas PC that Linus made in scrapyard wars?
That computer still looks ridiculous... ridiculously awesome!
I'd rather ROYGBIV it, but that's just me.
Welcome to LukeTechTips!
Wow we've come a long way from the days of soldering dim red LEDs to our parallel ports...
that was a pretty good mystery video
FYI, these cablemod lights are the exact same ones you can buy from ebay. In fact, anything that isn't nzxt, is likely to come out of the same chinese factory just with a different sticker. +CableMod Community Your company actually developed special LEDs....? Really? I call bullshit on that, but please enlighten us on how you did this? Who in your company designed a new LED?
anything that isn't nzxt? so nzxt has better quality or?
teensy ucontroller and ws2812b individually addressable led strips are a pretty interesting combination.
I love that glitter, more subtle next time but still nice.
Can you guys move again? That was a fun series.
From what I can see, the ASUS motherboards audio visualiser looks so much better and accurate compared to the NZXT Hue+, Hope NZXT improves on their visualiser to make it like this in the next update.
What about Catods? Are they still used in PC lighting? do they worth it? or has LED strips made them obsolete? a comparison vid maybe? :)
That Mystery Video was the most amazing video, everyone should see it. Watch it before the "i" spoils it. I waited and I regret that. Mystery Video, I approve.
I loled at 'aggressively sticky'. There's a 'that's what she said' joke in there, somewhere.
lol. did nobody notice the lorem ipsum in the intro?
looks like somebody did not do his homework :D
no kidding that is terrible latin
>not putting the video in an actual annotation at the end
are you even TRYING to rick roll me?
Damn I just got the new ROG Formula Viii, probably gonna get those light strips, looks badass
we now need rgb led smartphone cases

I have a great idea, build a valentine day themed pc build

these look really nice, will have to check them out. hope it's not too expensive
Ive been using the NZXT Hue for years and no one made a big deal about it, and its as good as anything on the market and cheap.
Wouldn't mind seeing another build log. Maybe updating a previous one.
I love how the i in the top right hand corner says the name of the video if you hover :P
The Sata Connector is awesome!
Ive been looking for led strips this is very nice cuz i was too lazy to search for a video
Maybe a good thing to add in this video: Magnets do not "stick" to aluminium (nor copper), in case you have an all aluminium case like I do.
fitting pc for my comment, when did cases go from just being a case to be a flashing Christmas dekoration the whole year around ?
