    Thank you. I was pretty sure that I'd worked with SAP systems all these years but it has been in so many formats over the decades, I didn't realise that it was the same underlying system (new versions). I just picked up whatever I had to do...the firms I worked for would give it their own name, presumably because they had a customised version of modules...the only SAP I recalled was the grey version!
    And now that I'm grey, I realise I've worked with all of these except some of the nitty gritty tech applications. I never called it SAP skills because I do admin whether doing database/records management, sales, payroll or HR admin, supply chain, invoicing, EOM or EOFY reconciliations, transacting in foreign currency conversion....I just called it whatever the business practice was e.g. accounting, finance, payroll, procurement etc. Viz the actual task, not the software (name) behind it. I guess I'm old school, using new tools.

    Just a pointer,, when people watch how to videos they don’t need the complete origin story before even knowing what they’re getting in to. If I watch a video about building a wooden box, the fact the wood came from a tree in Minnesota isn’t really the most important info. I watched for 5 minutes and still didn’t even see the basic outlook yet. I don’t think knowing what town in Germany it originated is getting anyone hired, we need to see how to operate the program.

    • @Michaelmanagement
      @Michaelmanagement  8 месяцев назад +1

      Origin stories are important - even for wooden boxes! We think understanding the backstory is part of understanding the whole story. This is why we watch most videos, including those about boxes, on 1.5x.

    Michael , this was a perfect introduction video about SAP that I needed, the company that I worked with has used Oracle and SAP solutions for years. I didn't know SAP was a German company, that is a bit of a pause for me as Germans and for that matter some Europeans can be very head strong even if they are wrong, so you have to keep calm and stay focused on what the goal is.

      Here it is: Imagine that leaders of every corporate function - sales, distribution, HR, everything - made an excel spreadsheet to track things. Along comes the CEO and wants to know "how is our inventory affected by sales cycle time?" No one's spreadsheet follows the same logic, so the answer takes a gazillion years to answer.
      SAP is the unifying spreadsheet across all departments that gives actionable business insights.
      Somewhere, a mic just dropped.

    Not sure if people here agree with me, but I didn't so much want to know about SAP commercial outlook, only about the Technology which supports it. I am a retired Cisco /Mobile / RF engineer with some (ancient) mapping programming experience in MapEx and MapBasic. Was curious what I need to train myself up on to go into SAP.. engineering

    Hello Michael, great info! For someone with a non-technical background such as business, but have become a super-user. Is it advisable to look into certification to help get implementation support roles in my org? Or should I take some computer science modules. If so, what areas are useful (coding, like python?)

    • @Michaelmanagement
      @Michaelmanagement  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for the compliment - glad you like the video. Typically, I think most people go from new user > super user > business/IT analyst (who supports configuration for the users). If you're not very technical, coding might not be a good fit. Hope this helps!

    The comparison between QuickBooks and SAP is helpful, but it left me wondering - if your company has a strong focus on SAP training, shouldn't you be "eating your own dog food" (to use an idiom in the IT industry) and using SAP to manage your own business instead of a product such as QuickBooks?

    • @Michaelmanagement
      @Michaelmanagement  3 года назад +1

      That's a great question, Nicholas! We love to eat our own dog food, especially when it comes to taking our own training courses for our team. But to use SAP's ERP software productively, companies typically have to have $250million in revenue and up - so this is really a software for very large, global businesses...we're not there yet. :)

    I would say you should sell your service and SAP under an individual's marketing themselves with the real world idea of being specialized in something in IT or related, as being too broad in your skill set will not make you competitive. If you want a job for life, be specialized and SAP is a great example. I should have looked into it when I worked for Nestle in the late 90's. They had a row of SAP consultants making six figures back then, but most importantly it is job security. I was a generalist and it was easy to find someone new in my field.
