From a 2015 article about the hotel:
Langtry Manor, which had been run by members of the Howard family for 38 years, has been taken over by the Meyrick Estate, which owns the freehold on the site.
Pamela Howard, who bought the Derby Road hotel in 1977, had decided to retire, a statement said. Tara left the hotel in recent years to devote herself full time to the Venus Awards for women in business, which started as the Langtry Manor Business Awards.
(Reviews on the website date from 2017 - nothing newer. Online reviews tend to say it's dirty, understaffed, dirty, decaying, dirty and dirty. Also that it's dirty.)

35 years ago my friend took me to langtry Manor on a Saturday evening for a special treat. Our evening was superb. We had pre dinner drinks in the lily lounge before being shown to the dining room. ( this was all of us and the dining room was full). We had a seven course meal cooked to perfection with different wines for each course. Ladies 'retired' to the drawing room while the gentlemen smoked cigars and had brandy. A truly traditional dinner and evening of entertainment. Historical, funny, sad, naughty but a good mix. Not one complaint. A great time. It was costly but well worth it. The rooms were smart but in style with the lantry tradition, costumes were for hire and 'modern' was not a word I heard! Anyone who went there went for the historical significance and experience.

The mother is stuck in the past and seems too had at one point to come into the twenty -first centry. The rooms did look like something from the 1970's or 1980's mixed with the
Edwardian period. I do think that the daughter's designs do give a better refreshing look. I do get Ruth's point of staffing in need of being cut back and thus mor efficiency and making the hotel/restaurant more profitable. The Chef (Matt) does definitely need to stop up to the plate and keep up with seasonal clean menus and plating with consistency. Especially with now a two star rating.

I think rather than 'What would madam like to start with," which is speaking to someone in the third person, "What would you like to start with," or "What will you be starting with" is better. As she said, addressing someone as "madam" (again, third person) is rather old-fashioned, as well as (in my opinion) a bit pretentious. It could also be seen as patronizing, depending on the circumstances, although I think the contraction would not be out of place or objectionable in a phrase such as "yes/no ma'am."

I don’t know how the daughter managed to tolerate her mother’s refusal to make the necessary changes to the hotel. Just because something worked thirty years ago doesn’t mean it will work now. The mother seems to be stuck in the past, not realizing that peoples tastes have changed over the decades. I think the daughter could have improved the business, but her mother kept interfering with her decisions. The thing is, mom’s way of doing things is not bringing in any money😒

Can just imagine Lillie bathing in luxury, yes in the bedroom! There’s nothing that kills the mood more than staring around the confines of a bathroom, toilet and all! Sign me up for luxurious and sexy soak with a glass of champagne a la Langtry. Ahhhh… 💜

I require a shower. For a bath, several grab bars are required.

I do like both Ruth Watson's and Alex Polizzi''s straight talking, great ideas, and no nonsense approach, but I don't appreciate their in your face foul language - so unprofessional and unnecessary. I very much appreciate that in some of these older episodes it's bleeped out. Pity that it's not in many other episodes which otherwise could be interesting family viewing.

Me thinks Tara should move out and try a job elsewhere. Impossible to work with her Mum.
She DID however qualify Ruth spot on though: A Crafty Cow.

Being an old bag?? Seriously? I appreciate straight talk, but that is just being churlish, childish, and foul. This woman is really NOT GOOD. How about someone starts insulting her? Rife with opportunity! Unbelievable.

I really dislike how the woman talks to her mom. It seems she has had so enough of all that she cannot talk to her mom (or anyone else) without sounding mad from the begining.

Wish people wud stop pussyfooting around the elderly , tell them their tastes are dated and we need to modernise, thats it , no ifs, buts or maybes.

I disagree. The views and opinions of older people are just as valid as those of younger people, in some cases, more so. My wish would be that people would stop bashing them.

Not every old person has dated ideas but hers are definitely stuck in the 80s. People who think they know, should get out more and see other hotels and not just assume they know everything.

Yes, from what I understand it has always just been an urban legend, but you'd think perhaps they wouldn't be quite so shady about it, that is, rather to say up front that the story is merely that and not based in actual fact. Or maybe they were completely unaware? I suppose neither I nor anyone else could possibly say for sure.
